Lately, some of Kalani’s things had been going missing.

It had started with her mp3 player- Kalani, while lazy, was still a generally organized person, so the disappearance of one of her possessions was highly unusual, if not annoying. There was a method to her laziness, after all, and listening to music was part of it! During the school year, she took her ipod to school with her, but as this was summer vacation, and the summer before switching schools, Kalani knew it wouldn’t be in her bookbag, not that it ever really contained much to begin with. She was never really one for doing any of her homework, after all, unless she absolutely had to. Or was being forced into it.

… Or was being bribed, but that was another matter altogether. The fact was, Kalani was not the kind of person who misplaced things so recklessly, so to lose track of her things like this was highly annoying.

The best course of action seemed to be to retrace her steps from earlier in the day, from her brief trip outside. Of course, a nap also sounded like a good idea, and, thus, a nap it was that Kalani first took. All that searching was exhausting, and it was important that she was well-rested before she did any further investigating, not that she really needed a reason to take a nap- it was just something Kalani liked to tell herself to justify her actions.

Once that was taken care of, it was time to do some investigating, and get down to the bottom of this mystery of the missing music player. If anything could get Kalani motivated to actually do something, it was to involve something that she depended on for her daily routine of Slacking Off And Other Fun Activities That Aren’t Chores. Thankfully, she didn’t really ever stray too far from the house during summer break, even doing her ‘duty’ as Chibi Morishita of the Yamamayaa (if she ever did to begin with), so it narrowed down the number of places to look.

… Or so she thought. Perhaps in hindsight, it should have occured to Kalani that it probably had been picked up by someone else by now, wherever she left it, and thus, there was a good chance it was long gone. Perhaps also, it should have occurred to her to maybe call ahead, to ask the owner of the small convenience store she had been at if anyone had turned it in, but that required effort, or at least, more effort than she was willing to put in that she hadn’t already into this search.

In the end, it all turned out to be in vain, anyway, as the music player was never found. Ultimately, it was written off as a loss, something Kalani would have to beg her mother to buy her again. She’d simply have to go without her music for awhile, which was annoying, but at least she still had her phone to play music with, so there was that.

(Until a few weeks later saw Kalani misplacing her phone, only to find it a few days later with the data cap exceeded, a bunch of idol games downloaded, and practically a million tabs full of idol music videos and lyric websites.)
