The assignment was: "State what you want to be when you grow up". If it wasn't required, The freshling would have flaked. He would have made another one of his excuses, like usual. Someone at his homework. The fennekit that he didn't have ran off with it. The monster that resided in his dorm room felt lazy and didn't want to do it.
But it was required. At least, to get into the next grade.
He should have lied on the sheet of paper. Called it good with a few fake sentences. No problem. Right?
Something in him was hesitating tho, making him stop from putting the pencil to the paper. Just what was he going to do?
He wasn't that sure. It wasn't like he had parents to support him or friends. He was alone, and always had been. An orphan. And who would want to adopt someone like him? Huh? No one. He wouldn't have been able to trust someone who would want him to adopt him. He didn't need anyone's pity. All Ezekiel needed was himself.
But he, himself, wouldn't be able to go to college without good grades. And his grades...well. Were sup par at best. School was boring. He didn't want to repeat things over and over and over again. He got the concept. He got the idea. It was time to move on. He didn't need to be hit in the head over and over again with the same information. Ridiculous.
Which was why he skipped class. And also why he was barely passing the classes. Homework was a waste of time. His test scores were good. Decent.
It was just the homework that got him. And attendance.
Did he need school to get by?
Probably not.
There was the option of working without some sort of....degree. He was sure there were jobs like that out there. Carriage driving, for one. But would he be able to get a licence? Likely not. No money.
He frowned, crossing out the idea. Zeke needed something better, something ...hm. He could save up by working at fast food and then get a liscence. He could be good at that. Taking orders. Zeke laughed to himself. Yeah, right. That wouldn't work either. The freshling crossed it out on the form as well.
Maybe he could work at a bank. He quickly wrote that down. Yeah, he didn't need a degree for that right? all it was was counting money. If it was one thing that Zeke knew how to do, it was counting. Especially money. Money made the world go round. Money---was the only support and love that he needed. The freshling scribbled down the reasons why. Stealing money, making more money on top of it. It was easy. Simple.
And hey, at least it was the truth. Even if he'd get a stern lecture for taking money from strangers. Strangers that were probably more rich than he was. Zeke deserved the money that he was stealing. And maybe...that wouldn't be the only job that he had.
The world of above and below was a big area, after all.
