With the return of Lorne, Nadia had almost forgot that she had her thing with Hurst. Well actually it was hard to forget because he kept sending her sexy n***s and like pics of all the things. His way of flirting had been fun and different and they had well...good chemistry to be honest.

But Lorne was back, and that changed everything. Lorne, the man she was still waiting on a call for. Lorne, she thought a bit bitterly, that had left her without much of a reason beyond that he felt he had held her back.

She almost, out of spite, wanted to keep Hurst to herself but that was selfish of her and would ruin the friendship she had with the man. It was best to be honest, she thought and come clean.

Text to Hurst: Wanna come over for dinner?

Text to Hurst: Might wanna bring some wine.

The first text was normal. The second one was not, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out something was on the horizon. Hurst contemplated a reply for a moment.

Text to Nadia: Sure.

Text to Nadia: I don't have any fruit juice on hand. I'll bring bourbon.

It's what he had, for whenever he'd go visit Nadia's brother or vice versa. Once details were hammered out, Hurst got ready to go, slinging a bag around him for the bourbon as his baby revved to life underneath him. He peeled out of the parking lot, and made the familiar trip to Nadia's place. It was also accompanied by the familiar trek to her apartment, where Hurst found himself raising a hand and rapping his knuckles on her door.

She knew Hurst was a smart boy, and the idea of bourbon did have its own appeal. She shifted dinner plans to suit the alcohol, choosing foods that were fatty and heavy in carbs. It'd be okay, she thought, because Hurst was a great friend and it wasn't technically like they had strings attached.

They both knew it was temporary. The last thing she wanted though, was to lose him as a friend, and for their to be bad blood between herself, sergei and him. In a heartbeat, her brother would choose her over the redhead and that was unacceptable.

At the knock, She moved over to the door and greeted the redhead. Arms slid up around his neck and laid her lips against his softly. "Hello Handsome." She soon enough slid away and moved into the kitchen, a thick scent of gravy and biscuits baking filling the air.

"Didn't know if you wanted something light or heavy for the bourbon." She eyed the bottle, "I'm gonna need a couple shots." She sighed.

"I've had one hella of an emotional roller coaster."

"Nadia." He greeted softly in return, his lips returning the kiss at an equal lightness as his fingers briefly ghosted down her spine before she pulled away. The man followed her into the kitchen, pulling off his sling bag and slipping out the bottle of bourbon. He placed it on the counter, and went ahead and pulled out some glasses for the both of them. With all his visits, he was rather familiar with where everything was placed.

"Oh, I'm not picky." Hurst replied. "Just appreciative for whatever you make." He poured a shot for the woman, but went ahead and put some ice into his cup to just pour himself a drink. "Is that so? Well, let's just hop to it, then." He smiled briefly, falling silent as he waited, taking a sip of his drink.

She took the whole s**t, setting the glass down and sighing.

"Lorne's back." She looked over at him, and there was a quiet sadness about it.

"It seems that he didn't wish to keep reaching out to me while I was in Russia, for reasons unknown to me still." She ran a hand through her hair, tousling it around.

"I can't tell if I'm angry, hurt, happy or ******** up. I feel ******** up Hurst." She smiled, but it wasn't a full one. "First Olga, Now Lorne. It's like I lose the ones I'm the closest with and then they just...."

Didn't want her anymore. She poured another shot and threw it back. It'd take a lot for her to get drunk.

"But I think we also...." she looked over at him, "Should return to just being friends again. I don't wanna lose that." She kind of wished all her relationships were no strings attached.

A brow quirked as Nadia knocked back the shot like a champion, though as she followed it up with why, he understood. "Ah." Hurst uttered, continuing to nurse his drink as Nadia let more of her thoughts roll. "If ******** up includes a mix of all of those emotions, then it's an apt description, yes." His own expression softened momentarily.

"Nadia..." He started. "...How you lost Olga isn't the same for how you lost Lorne." He said simply. "You can't compare the two. Especially not when there's a chance for your relationship with Lorne?" As she downed another shot, he simply smiled. "If that's what you want, Nadia, then it will be so." He always knew there was an expiration date on the with benefits part. That never bothered him. It had been an amazing time while it lasted, but the physical part aside, he genuinely enjoyed Nadia for her companionship and cunning as well, and that wouldn't change.

"You're not going to lose that."

"No." She looked at Hurst, "It's not. I still lost them. I didn't even know what happen to Lorne." She clutched her hands in her shirt. "I'm so angry, Hurst." She didn't know what else to feel.

"I loved him so much. And he stopped talking to me. Just stopped talking to me. Disappeared." She rose a hand up. "I go jogging in the park in the morning and bam, crash into him, like its our first meeting all over again." She looked at Hurst.

"He was shocked to see me." She was going full rant now, "Like I was back from the dead. And then I asked him why, and he said because he thought....I was being held back or something, The details are fuzzy because it hurt so much." She poured another shot, because apparently today was a get drunk night. "And my heart does this jump, like here's my other half but he doesn't want me...."

She looked at Hurst, "I don't....I don't think he wants me anymore Hurst."

How different yet similar Nadia and Sergei were. Hurst often couldn't help but compare the two siblings. Sometimes they seemed like night and day, but then, moments like these sprung up. "Things change." Hurst said simply, because they did. People could be so adamant about certain things, but time and life had a way of shaping and carving them into something different. He let Nadia go about serving herself first, and continued to hold onto his drink and sip from it.

Hurst listened. While he didn't know Lorne personally, he had a second hand account of the man from Nadia's perspective. From what he had gathered and been told, Lorne suffered from a crippling case of lack of self worth. It made a lot of sense when he backed what Nadia was telling him against that. "Thinking he doesn't want you isn't the same as knowing he doesn't want you, Nadia." The man answered. "So confirm that." He trailed off for a moment. "I can't say I'm surprised, with that you have told me. A lack of confidence and a sense of feeling not worth it can destroy, Nadia, even with logic and facts point to things being otherwise."

He idly shrugged. "A lack of communication just allows for chaos to sweep through and wreck havoc as well. So really the best you both can do is catch up to see if you're on the same page...much less even in the same book."

She took a sip of her alcohol and eyed the man intently.

"Sometimes I hate that you are so right." She raised her glass. "I gave him my number again. So I'm hoping he'll reach out to me." She threw back another shot before resting on the counter.

Hurst had been a good friend and even better lover. She was pleasantly spoiled by him, even now has he had to listen to her lament about her former lover.

"I'm gonna miss the fun times." She smiled at him instead, "I liked the book we were on for awhile." She idly came over and reached up to run a hand through his hair. "You were too good to me, Hurst."

"It's my only redeeming quality." He replied, a corner of his lips quirking up. He had a feeling that things would work out for the woman. She just had a way about her that didn't allow for it to be otherwise...well. Maybe except for Olga...but this kind of situation, oddly, was somewhat more in control. Not as impossible.

"Oh I'm sure there will still be some fun times." He replied. "Just none that involve having you bent over various pieces of furniture." The man smiled back at her. "But just imagine how thrilled your brother will be to hear it~" As Nadia came over and reached up to touch him, the red head set his drink down on the counter. "That's funny, Nadia..." He replied, both of his coming up to thread into the woman's beautiful black hair. "You were too good to me." His hands tightened their hold and he tilted her head up as his lips crashed down onto her's. A long, deep, and heated kiss.

A kiss goodbye to this part of their relationship.

Blue eyes rolled upwards, even at his comment. It was the second time she had dealt with the presistently correct Hurst, and she adored that he was willing to throw down honesty like that.

She would've blushed, realizing that she might need to be openly honest with Lorne about that too when he came over. A small quick thrill, fueled by her need to be touched and alcohol had her head tilting back. Whoever was too good for whoever didn't matter.

She matched his heat for the last time, matched the touches and the caresses and the demands. It was a final goodbye and the most honest one she could give Hurst. She pressed back, demanded back. She'd give him exactly what he wanted and demand more. It was more then just a good bye kiss.

It was ending the note just like they started. With a bang.
