Modifier: Agility

The Ascent

Start off by racing up a ramp. A thirty degree angle is nothing for an athlete-- not after the Warped Wall from the Qualifying Round, right? Don't get too confident, though, because it doesn't stop there. After the race up the incline it's up to you to finish the climb by leaping back and forth between platforms suspended by chains. Each one shifts beneath your weight, none of them seeing very sturdy.

  • 2 - Face plant into the first platform and hit the mat below. Going to give it another go?

    The Descent

Dozens of bungee cords are crossed this way and that, creating a web of give and take to drop down through. Some of the cords are sticky, leaving an odd residue behind on anything they come in contact with. Others? Others aren't bungee cords at all, but interspersed cables and thin wires. Do be careful grabbing on to those...

If your modifier is agility: If there's a wire you narrowly miss catching yourself on it. No cuts for you-- Unless you grab it on purpose, but why would you do that?

  • 3 - Slow and steady, sweetheart. Slow and steady.

    The Gears

Managed to free yourself? Good. Dump out of the cords and onto a gear shaped platform, but don't linger long. It's in your best interest to keep moving forward because the three gears ahead start spinning faster the more time progresses and the last thing you want is to get thrown off into what waits below.

  • 1 - Please quote Skye Starrfyre in your run for a reaction prompt.

    The Pipe

As the last gear spins it's up to you to make a leap onto the pipe-- or into the pipe. The pipe is angled at fifteen degrees, suspended in the air above the same murky water you've risked falling into since the start of the gears. If you time your leap right you can run along the top, but most wind up scrambling inside the pipe as it sinks slowly down.

If your modifier is agility: Get out of jail free. If you roll a 1 you can wiggle out of this and act as though you've rolled a 2. Or you can quote Skye Starrfyre. Your choice.

  • 2 - Just as your feet start to slip from beneath you, you find traction and scramble harder, faster, stronger...

    The Treads

Assuming you've managed to get the right air off of the pipe, your next task is to leap between two treadmills suspended in air. Roughly five foot in length apiece with a twelve inch gap between them, it's up to you to keep your balance. You really don't want to fall...

  • 3 - The tread is moving but you can scramble faster, right? Right???

    The Chains

Give it all that you've got as you take a flying leap off of the treads. Launch yourself forward towards a series of chains hanging from above. Use whatever momentum or talent you can to swing from chain to chain until you reach the last of four and then drop, kiss the ground and thank whatever you believe in that you've made it to the end.

If your modifier is agility: If you roll a 4 add +1 to your roll and get fancy with that landing.

  • 5 - Just when you thought it couldn't get better... You realize it could, but you made it, so whatevs.

Ace was...not feeling so hot. He'd felt like a million bucks the night before, with a free night in a fancy hotel full of booze and loose women, but he was definitely paying for it now, his stance wobbling at the starting line. Did they have to make the lights so bright? He burped and it tasted like cigarettes and regret.

But he was here, and he was a smooth solo operator, and he was gonna show the girls what it looked like when a professional ran the course and not a couple of dolled up farm animals. The buzzer rang and he sprinted forward, but he seemed to miss the point of the ramp, slipping on the first step of the slope. He hit the mat hard, landing face down and a** up, which was not normally a placement he took issue with except he was being watched by dudes and that's gay. Rubbing his face, he climbed back up and shook the failure out of his system, stretching his arms. He wasn't worried--they could always cut that out of the final footage. He was fine.

Shuffling his way through the first trial was enough to give him a healthy sweat, and he looked at the bungee trap with idle trepidation. "Can't be worse than trying to get something out of Star's room," he shrugged, sliding his way between the ropes and--wires? Were those really wires? They looked sharp enough to really mess with someone if they took the course too fast.

"Hey, someone should really look at that last part of the course," Ace wheezed at a cameraman, "There's a couple of exposed wires, I could have really messed myself up, that's not good television." He frowned, putting on his best nonchalant expression, and stumbled for the next gears. How many trials were there? He needed a water break already.

Ace, were you a fan of CYOA books as a child? Flipping between pages, holding your place just in case the next choice just turned out to be a bad one?

Unfortunately, you can't turn back the page when it comes to real life. There's no opportunity to dog-ear a section to flip back to when you find yourself starting to really regret your life choices.

As you tumble free from the Descent you find yourself starting to realize that something isn't right. You'd signed up for an athletic competition, not the live-action version of Saw, and yet...

That little bit of hesitation lingers with you as you decide to move on, taking a leap towards the first of the gears. You misjudge the platform and find yourself in the water below. in a bit of a daze

If this were normal water, this might not be a problem, but there really isn't anything normal about the brackish liquid you've just fallen into. It's deep enough that you created a splash when you fell in, and dark enough that you can't see your feet beneath you. You can see something, though. There's something moving in the water...

    OOC: Roll 1d20

If you roll a 19 or 20 respond to The Gears as though you've rolled a 2-- You spin enough on the platform to make yourself very dizzy and it's difficult, but you manage to make it to The Pipe.

If you roll a 15-18 you hit the water beneath the first platform and you might be able to scramble back up. If you choose to climb out of the water, roll 1d6 to try your luck at The Gears again. If you do not climb out of the water, please respond and react to hitting the water before quoting Skye again.

If you roll less than 15 please respond and react to hitting the water beneath The Gears before quoting Skye again.

The creature moving towards you is aquatic in nature. It seems more at home in the water than you are and it is definitely faster. Try as you may to pull yourself out of the water before it can get to you, it's just not enough. Your hands are still tingling and nothing seems to be working in your favor. Is this it? Is this where your story ends?

    OOC:

This is your last chance to survive the Gauntlet.

Roll 1d100. If you roll 85 or above you just manage to pull yourself out of the water before the creature swimming after you catches you in its jaws. Do you try to complete the rest of the course from here or do you throw in the towel?

If you roll 84 or below.... I'm afraid this is the end of the line. Please finish out your roleplay with your character's final thoughts as they're drawn down into the depths.

As long as you hit 500 words total in this RP it will count for an additional raffle ticket in the general prize pool.

    Ace hadn't wanted this.

He'd signed up for the bragging rights and the chance to win free stuff and look at hot women and get an easy score, and to stick it to his roommates in an arena where he was bound to have an advantage. But now he was sitting in cold water, his body hurt, and he was starting to get the feeling that having Stardust rag him about a poor trial run was the least of his problems.

"He--Hey, there's something down here!" Ace tried to tread water, kicking out at the suggestion of a creature in the murky pool. Calm people lived, panicked people died, he told himself, and he forced his breathing to slow, his eyes to stay steady as he looked for an exit.

And then something grabbed his leg with no mind to his breathing technique and he yelped when he went under, water spilling into his lungs. He really should have known to fold on this hand, he thought weakly, reaching for the surface in vain when the darkness claimed him.

Aw, man. His roommates were gonna take his stuff and sell it for booze money, and then they were going to make out without him. Bitches.
