Jake lived with his grandmother because his parents were always out saving Poke- mon and people alike. He grew up with tales of their heroism and amazing feats across the globe. Whenever they would visit, they’d bring trinkets from wherever they’ve been like the Casteliacone from Castelia City, Poffins from Sinnoh and so much more. Well, it was mostly food, but he appreciated it nonetheless.
Growing up with those kinds of stories spinning in his head, it was no wonder that when he was asked by the elders what he wanted to do, he wanted to follow in his parents’ footsteps. It already had a knack of bonding with the various Pokemon in White Forest, so the innate ability was already there, the drive was what took the cake.
It wasn’t until his father went missing did he finally receive some opposition to his plans. His mother came home tired, and bruised- tussled with the legendaries of the Unova, and his father nowhere in sight. While heroic, Rangers are not without their own risks. His grandmother forced him to stay, tend to the farm and the Poke- mon there, while his mother recovered.
Eventually he had enough of the farmhand life. He wanted more, he wanted to be part of those same old tales that inspired him to follow the path. He wanted to find his father and bring him home. Knowing that she couldn’t stop her son, Annalise gave him her lucky charm- a pendant her husband gave her when they decided to start a family, and prayed to Xerxeas that Jake would come back home.

Jake can be a little bit on the unpredictable side. He loves to march to his own beat which causes him to be rather spontaneous. He doesn’t have a set plan on his own and tends to let destiny take its course. He does try follow a grand plan like his dream, and finding his father because he’s convinced he’s still out there but when things don’t go his way, it doesn’t bother him.
He is, however, the first person to volunteer to help when someone is in need, and goes out of his way to do so despite being set back personally. He’ll love to explore and learn more about the Pokemon in each new region, as well as the culture and people. He keeps a track of it in his journal, and likes to take pictures to sketch during days when he just wants to relax (which is rarely to be honest).
Not one to mince words, he’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind or oppose someone if he thinks they’re in the wrong. Similarly, he’s not against arguing a point should a debate arise, and is open-minded enough to concede if he realizes he’s wrong. He can be quite stubborn about it, but not unreasonable.
No challenge is too big or too small for him, and he loves to take on whatever comes his way come rain or shine. A lofty companion, but a loyal one nonetheless, and the Pokemon he meets feel the same way.
