 Alexi had never really gotten comfortable…being himself. Even though there were more Halloweds around than there had been in the past, he had never really accepted his too small wings and too large ears…even if his plumage was beautiful, and even if sometimes he found himself watching his reflection in the mirror…he still wasn’t sure that he liked himself.
And it was discouraging.
Not to mention the fact that he was small for his race too. He was only five foot three and a half, and he held on to that half inch as though it were a lifeline. After all, it was the only thing keeping him from the very bottom of the barrel.
He was eating a small sandwich and sitting on a bench in his favorite park, enjoying the sounds and smells of the day, his wings tucked firmly behind him. There was nothing he could do about the ears though, and they hung down limply on either side of his head. Oh well. People didn’t normally comment on him, they didn’t…there wasn’t as much bad feelings towards the Hallowed but…
He still didn’t like being what he was. And if he wasn’t comfortable as himself…what hope was there really?

 The mutant life was hard. Soren knew that. People looked at his extra set of wings funny. Some folks used to tug on his "buttwings" and run off. He also knew that he'd lucked out; some mutants were far worse off than an extra set of wings. Some mutants also didn't have parents that cared about them, and took the risk of awakening them early because no, they couldn't really wait. He was lucky. He didn't often see others like him, and he was fine with that. But when he did... well, his interest was immediately captured. There was no reason for them not to stick together, really. He was just passing through this park on his way to the store, taking the scenic route, when a very distinct Fallen caught his attention. Those ears were really something. It seemed he'd found another one of his kind. What grabbed his attention the most was the color on this one, actually. This one was... wow, dang, pretty. "Hearts aflutter" pretty. He was going to take his chances here. Soren approached Alexi and gave a single wave. "Hello there." Not much to respond to, but surely it was an attention-grabber?

For a moment, Alexi ignored the greeting, sure that it was for someone else. How many other times had he looked up, offering a smile, only to get a dirty look in return with whoever it was having been talking to someone over his shoulder? No, he wasn’t going to do that again, he was going to just focus on his sandwich and hopefully…this too would pass.
Quietly, he took another small bite, though his bright green eyes did glance up to see just who…or what was talking, and for a moment, he stopped chewing, staring at the other Hallowed nightmare who stood before him.
It took another long moment to realize that he was indeed the one being spoken to, and when his eyes took in the taller Chimera, he felt a flush creeping up his neck and filling his face with a pink hue.
“O-oh…Um…hello…” He waved a hand that was quickly hidden in his oversized sweater and swallowed. “…Can I help you with something, or were you…just being friendly?”
His eyes roamed over the figure again, taking in the two sets of wings, and for a moment, he swallowed, and then a shy smile began to slowly light up his face. Perhaps this…was what he had been looking for. A friend who would understand…a…a tall friend who he could hide behind.
Quietly, Alexi cleared his throat. “I’m…um. I’m Alexi.”

Oh gods above (and below), the little guy was blushing. That was too cute. Soren didn't like to admit he found things or people cute, but good lord this one was cute. Was this what it felt like to have sparks fly at first sight? He actually didn't know. "Well, I don't know if you could help me, but what's wrong with being a little friendly?" The poor guy probably wasn't used to it. That was a reasonable guess. "Hope you don't mind if I share this bench with you for a bit?" It was tempting to just sit down next to Alexi, but he knew better than to just shove his buttwings in people's personal space. "I'm Soren, by the way. It's nice to meet you."

Soren. The name alone brought a strange flutter to Alexi’s stomach. It must be from all the excitement of having someone…notice him and not from the fact that the Chimera was…overly handsome. Too handsome. Perhaps this was some sort of a trick…
Regardless, Alexi found himself moving over, making room for Soren to sit down, still keeping his too small wings folded up behind him. He knew that the other male had to have noticed that he was also Hallowed but…that didn’t mean he had to go and…and advertise the fact. It still wasn’t something that he was at all proud of.
“I don’t…I don’t mind at all, Soren…it’s a public bench so…why shouldn’t you have a seat there…?”
Obviously that wasn’t the right response, and Alexi was beginning to beat himself up over his poor word choice before all of the words were out of his mouth, his ears drooping slightly. How was he supposed to make friends with people who actually seemed interested in making friends if all he did was chase them away? Especially when…especially when they had piercing eyes that made goosebumps break out everywhere.
Quietly, Alexi withdrew slightly into his sweater, pulling the sleeves down over his hands and clinging to the soft fabric. “I mean, I would like that, so please…join me.” There. That was softer. Kinder…
It made it seem like he actually wanted the Chimera to sit with him which…
Well. He kind of did.

Soren gave a deep chuckle. "Understood," he said, and then sat down next to his fellow Hallowed, taking care not to let his "buttwings" scrape against the other's side. He thought that the accidental contact would probably make that guy explode. But it might also be really cute to see what happened if he just... brushed against him a little. Was he going to do it? Yeah, he was going to do it. Once he sat down and adjusted himself, one buttwing sort of popped out and brushed against Alexi's side. "Oops, sorry," Soren said, though he was grinning from ear to ear as he waited for Alexi's reaction.

Alexi wasn’t expecting any contact. There had been more than enough room on the bench, it didn’t make any sense that the male would have to touch him, but then suddenly, he was being lightly brushed by one of the chimera’s wings and he felt his face heating up ever so slightly as it tickled him.
Quietly though, the fallen cleared his throat and scooted over a few more inches, still being careful with his own wings. “It’s quite all right, Soren. They must be difficult to manage. I’m not sure that I could handle having two sets of wings…I find that mine are more than enough as it is already…”
Looking away, Alexi bit his lip, suddenly wanting to show the other Hallowed his wings. Wanting praise. Or sympathy. Whatever came from it…but he wanted an excuse to bond with him. To perhaps spend more time with him other than this one unintended meeting.
“So…now what?” He glanced back at the Chimera, rather shyly and once more looked him up and down, before shifting his eyes back to his own hands, keeping them folded in his lap. “…It’s a nice day out, I suppose. Do you…always spend so much time talking to strangers?”
