The Ascent

Start off by racing up a ramp. A thirty degree angle is nothing for an athlete-- not after the Warped Wall from the Qualifying Round, right? Don't get too confident, though, because it doesn't stop there. After the race up the incline it's up to you to finish the climb by leaping back and forth between platforms suspended by chains. Each one shifts beneath your weight, none of them seeing very sturdy.

6 - Flawless.

Tristan had gotten a good nights rest and had been pleased to hear that he had been one of the top three scorers from the night before. Truly he hadn't been expecting that so he was floating high with self esteem right now.

It seemed to show as well because he flew up the ramp and onto the suspended platforms. Almost floating across them with long limbs he quickly and flawlessly cleared the first course like a champion.

The Descent

Dozens of bungee cords are crossed this way and that, creating a web of give and take to drop down through. Some of the cords are sticky, leaving an odd residue behind on anything they come in contact with. Others? Others aren't bungee cords at all, but interspersed cables and thin wires. Do be careful grabbing on to those...

3 - Slow and steady, sweetheart. Slow and steady.

As he moved onto the next part of the course he realized quickly this was going to take brains more so than brawn's, even more so than agility. Slowly he worked his way through the bungee webs, trying his best to not grab a hold of some of the thin wires and cables. It wasn't long before he was finally through the course and onto the next stage.

The Gears

Managed to free yourself? Good. Dump out of the cords and onto a gear shaped platform, but don't linger long. It's in your best interest to keep moving forward because the three gears ahead start spinning faster the more time progresses and the last thing you want is to get thrown off into what waits below.

If your modifier is agility: If you roll a 5 or 6 add +1 to your roll for The Pipe.

6 - Flawless.

Removing himself from the cords he moved onto the platform quickly and gracefully. Moving quickly he watched as the gears in front started to move and he did his best to clear the platform before being thrown off into the abyss below.

The Pipe

As the last gear spins it's up to you to make a leap onto the pipe-- or into the pipe. The pipe is angled at fifteen degrees, suspended in the air above the same murky water you've risked falling into since the start of the gears. If you time your leap right you can run along the top, but most wind up scrambling inside the pipe as it sinks slowly down.

5 + 1 from previous roll = 6 - Flawless. (If you rolled a 5 or 6 you have the option to have traveled on TOP of the pipe instead of inside of it!)

Leaping from the platform he landed on top of the pipe. Running along the top he could feel the structure sinking beneath his weight and hurried across the other side quickly.

The Treads

Assuming you've managed to get the right air off of the pipe, your next task is to leap between two treadmills suspended in air. Roughly five foot in length apiece with a twelve inch gap between them, it's up to you to keep your balance. You really don't want to fall...

3 - The tread is moving but you can scramble faster, right? Right???

As he moved onto the next part he began his movements across it and realized quickly that it was moving. So that just meant he needed to move quicker! Hurrying along he made sure to get across without falling into the murky waters.

The Chains

Give it all that you've got as you take a flying leap off of the treads. Launch yourself forward towards a series of chains hanging from above. Use whatever momentum or talent you can to swing from chain to chain until you reach the last of four and then drop, kiss the ground and thank whatever you believe in that you've made it to the end.

1 - Please quote Skye Starrfyre in your run for a reaction prompt.

Tristan, were you a fan of CYOA books as a child? Flipping between pages, holding your place just in case the next choice just turned out to be a bad one?

Unfortunately, you can't turn back the page when it comes to real life. There's no opportunity to dog-ear a section to flip back to when you find yourself starting to really regret your life choices.

It seems as though you were having trouble gaining traction on The Treads and, as a result, your leap towards The Chains wasn't nearly as graceful or 'on point' as anyone was hoping, least of all you. You fly through the air and your fingers find the chain, only instead of grabbing on it slides through your fingers. Your falling and it doesn't seem like there's any way to catch yourself before you hit the water, but...

But...

There's always a but...

If you roll a 15-18 you catch movement in the water beneath you just before you hit the surface. If you start swimming you might be able to pull yourself out of the water on the other side.

As he leaped from the treads he felt his foot slipping. The chains were in his grasp, but he didn't have enough of a grip and into the water he fell. The cool liquid surrounded him like a blanket. A very cold and wet blanket. What worried him the most though, was that as he had been falling he had seen something in the water, or at least thought he had seen something. More concerned about that then his now ruined score was swimming out of the water. So with that he took off reaching for the other side.

He still was quite upset about the fact that he had fallen on the LAST stint of the course. It was as if it was the warp wall all over again. He had tried three times to get up that wall before succeeding, though here there was no take backs. He couldn't just restart the run and get more momentum. Now he was essentially a sitting duck and he prayed to the higher powers above that he would make it from the waters. Those were the thoughts crossing his mind as he kicked his legs and pumped his arms as fast as he could in a hope that he would in fact be able to reach the other side and pull himself out. He just couldn't look back, shouldn't look back but something in the back of his mind told him this might be the end. Still he would try and try he might, reaching he hoped this was enough.

OOC: Roll 1d20.

If you roll a 19 or 20 respond to The Chains as though you've rolled a 2-- you grab on at the last moment and use what strength you have to haul yourself back up. If you have enough strength to get a swing going again you might be able to make it the rest of the way across.

If you roll a 15-18 you catch movement in the water beneath you just before you hit the surface. If you start swimming you might be able to pull yourself out of the water on the other side.

If you roll less than 15 please fill out the remainder of your prompts and respond to hitting the water below the chains before quoting Skye again.

Something was in the water. Fortunately, whatever it was had made itself comfortable on the opposite end of the course. It had laid in wait near the start of the Pipe because that was where it had been commanded to stay until it sensed motion. It had caught a glimpse of movement through the pipe, following the human's progress from beneath the surface of the water. It had all been given up hope of a snack until Tristan started to fall.

Tristan might have fallen, but he was quick to respond and his reflexes hadn't failed him. He'd caught that glimmer and he'd started to swim, but the creature was quick and right on his heels. If he took a moment longer, if he slowed down at all...

A yard or so away from Tristan there was a splash, a softly glowing orb plunking into the water after being thrown as a diversion. Whatever form of monstrosity had been right at his heels up until that point veered off course, chasing after the energy instead as though it was all just a game. It would provide Tristan with the chance he needed to make it to the opposite end of the pool-- just enough time to start pulling himself up over the edge before a hand reached out to him.

"Here. You look like you could use some help." The hand offered was covered in a black glove that started at the tips of fingers and continued on up over biceps. The man it belonged to seemed largely unimpressed, although it wasn't necessarily because he wasn't impressed with Tristan's performance. It seemed as though he was just mildly perturbed with the entire situation, or like it was simply a state of being for him (it was).

"C'mon. That thing's not going to be distracted for long..."

He could feel it, that gut wrenching feeling that he was about to find out what was in the water. Stopping wasn't an option, perhaps if he made it up he'd still make a good time. He was still on the clock wasn't he? At least he figured he might be and he wasn't about to just give up because he fell into the water.

There was a sound, a splash. Eyes twisted to the side as he tried to catch a glimpse as to what it might have been but he figured MAYBE he shouldn't worry about that, but still the glowing light was curious. However a voice and a hand caused him to refocus on his task.

"Thank you." Grabbing his hand the mans next words confirmed the fear that there was in fact something in the water. He felt almost silly having to be helped out but at this point he wasn't going to question it because he wanted out of the water, and fast.

With his help he stood up and did his best to not drip on the man that just saved his life possibly. Had he been in real danger? Perhaps it was all a stunt. Though now he wasn't so sure.

"I'll remember to not be so careless next time." He sure didn't look pleased but perhaps that was just how he was, but Tristan wasn't about to ask.

"Better to hope that there isn't a next time than to remember to not be so careless-- take it from someone who knows." Lieutenant Cornetite had assisted with the capture of the creature that was in the water. He had not known then what Uvarovite had intended for the thing other than experimentation, but... He couldn't say he'd thought it would wind up here.

Then again, he hadn't thought that he would wind up here either....

Sighing, the blue-haired man clapped a hand onto Tristan's shoulder, giving him a nudge forward once the other man had caught his breath. "This way to the waiting room. You can grab a towel along the way..."

(( Please proceed here. ))

It was true, he hoped there wasn't a next time. "You can best believe I won't make the same mistake twice." While he was a fast learner he clearly hadn't learned quick enough on the course to know when he was prepared to jump. For sure he would be on better guard next time. As the man placed a hand on his shoulder he felt so much better, while he didn't know this man he felt almost bonded by this moment, in some small way.

"A towel does sound nice about now, I'm getting water all over the place." He laughed as he walked along after him.
