Quote:
A little ways away from all of the food attractions is a neatly fenced in dog park. The area is wide and free to roam with your furry friend, and along the sides are little kiosks with treats for you AND your pup! Not only that, but the local rescue center, “A Round of A-paws” has set up it’s own little area with a few of the sweetest and most loving furry friends they have who are looking for a new home! Come on over and play for a while, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find a new best friend to take home!

If Ally was honest she doubted Cara might enjoy the fair for the school system. It was a public thing, they were both unfond of it, and Cara wasn't keen if dogs weren't involved. However, the moment an advertisement mentioned not only inclusion of the local dog park but a dog friendly space there and the local dog rescue, Ally all but dragged Cara, promising to make it fun with the best for last -- and she insisted Cara bring all of her shiny pennies, because Ally would too.

So, the teen had led Cara through -- game and ride to game and ride, even winning her a small stufed taco dog before guiding Cara to the dog park. Her mom would understand them visiting the rescue. Cara was around enough to really be family, and Ally loved seeing her, walking over and watching the dogs.

"And as promised, the best part and I brought thge highest SPF I could find if you wanna take them into full sun. And a hat." Ally offered Cara a trilby awkwardly along with the lotion, and motioned.

"If there's pups in need here, I doubted you'd wanna stay home, and the homes must be full. So maybe we can visit them and cheer up the dogs?"

Festivals were stupid. This was a simple fact of life, and one that Cara wasn't eager to even try to set foot in one - school-run festivals were even worse, and she was sure people would side-eye her every moment she was there. (To say nothing of the amount of preparation needed for an afternoon out, though Ally was going out of her way to make it a little more bearable). The only thing that could even begin to sway her on the prospect was hearing that there was a dog event as well - and adoptable ones, at that.

Most of it was, as she'd expected, stupid and boring (even if the taco dog toy was cute), and Cara was more than happy to leave the main festival and head to the good part. "..We're going to find the ones overlooked first, okay?" She said, peering through the oversized sunglasses she was wearing to cope with how bright everything was in summer sun. "Any that people seem to be passing by - and if some of them look oversocialized we're telling the staff so they can have a break, even the most social dogs can only handle so many people without a break."

That was something she could understand, really - too many people around and she started getting growly and wanting to punch them, too."I only wish..." Mm. Well. It wasn't a secret what she really wanted, but St. Mags was St. Mag's and so she'd just have to be satisfied looking after other peoples' dogs for now.

One finger was placed on Cara's nose AFTER she finished speaking, Ally smiling a little bit as she winked.

"I said all of youir money for a really good reason, and you're almosty always at my place anyhow, Cara." Ally said firmly. "And I brought the car."

Barely! But legal to drive was leghal to drive and Ally was going to make damn sure Cara was happy. She LIKED the bugger -- she uynderstood why she was.. Well.

Dark. The older girl sighed, looking out at the diogs carefully.

"And your conditions are fair, if I might ask we not overlook the others too." Ally then hesitated, watching a dog approach. She offered a hand slowly, and a soft, sad look came over her eyes at the animal as it nosed, licking softly.

"We gotta look and see everyone. And.. No breaking up family for loves. Or letting anyone bully the breeds with reps that aren't fair."

She rubbed the animal's ear gently, before sighing, looking to Cara slowly as she stroked the dog and motioned to her to look freely.

"Trust me, I understand. I got overlooked before Mom got me, too." It was unplanned, opening up, but... Ally was always sensitive to some thoughts.

"When /I was little I questioned some stuff I'm still working on and when my biological mother found out... Well. My sirte didn't stop her from beating me. Once they took me away I resorted to fighting a lot too to protect myself. So... No overlooking anybody. Especially the ones accused of bad reps.. Because those breeds are the best ones. Promise me, Cara? Everyone is fair game?"

"Yeah, I got it," Cara said, shaking her head. "If they want attention, they get it - but I want to make sure the rescue people are treating them right, too." She fell quiet, then, listening to Ally's explanation of her own life - and winced. It wasn't something she liked talking about, or even thinking of, but some elements of it... they hit a little close to home. She didn't mention her own background, she couldn't - and wouldn't - but she got it.

...It was just easier to turn away and focus her attention on the first dog that found its way to her - a little white terrier that was bouncing around from person to person despite the summer heat. "Dogs're better'n people anyway," she muttered, offering the terrier her hand and then a scratch behind its ears. "Hell of a lot nicer, for one thing. Never piss me off - all they want is a little care."

Way better than humans - they want to use you up and spit you out more often than not. Though she's started meeting decent people, now, it's... it's hard to shake that wariness. It probably always will be.

"I'm gonna say it's fair." Ally said, nodding as she pet the pup that wiggled to her, sitting to allow them into her lap, not quite looking to Cara yet as she scanned around. There were plenty of bowls of water, it seemed, and cool shady places to hide, and Ally sighed, looking to the other girl finally with a half-smile. She didn't dare distract the pups, instead smiling to Cara.

"Woof." She said, tone a very soft tease. "But I don't think of myself as a canine."

That, well. Ally chuvkled softly at her terribly joke, but did smile faintly.

"But no, dogs are awesome."

She then looked to the pup, scratching under it's chin gently before it bound away, the teen quiet before moving to look over the terrier with Cara, before tilting her head and looking at a paper, then back.

"Hey, Cara, that dog." Ally said quietly. "Think we can both cuddle him? He needs it if thesae papers are right."

To wait so long for a forever home! Why.

"...Okay, better than ninety-five percent of people," Cara amended, scratching the dog behind his ears - one of them wasn't staying upright, it was kind of adorable. "You and your mom are exceptions. Doesn't mean I like humans at large, though."

What a sweet pup, this one, she thought as he leaned into the ear scratches and started whining pitifully. "Seems friendly enough - what do his papers say? What are they calling him?" The noises that dog was making - they were... they were too cute, he needed to stop. He needed to stop right now.

"He's not the only one here in need, though, so don't forget that." They had a deal, after all - every pup was getting love. Even if this one did seem to be begging for it at every turn.

"I should introduce you to my datemate somethime. You'd like them." Ally said gently, looking over the papers gently.

"It says the pup is named Snowball and they've... Oh."

Ally winced, visibly, and looked to Cara, expression contorted. "So, uhm, Snowball's been here for a good year now. Apparently it's.. He's big." Ally sighed, walking back with the paperwork as she sat next to Cara quietly, reaching to stroke the pup quietly as she sighed. Several others were playing with small children and families, including Ally's greeter, and the girl was quiet.

"You know they bring dogs they know are good in need of homes here... He's been waiting a while too. Maybe we can go to your deal and love the one most in need." Ally said softly, then looked over, studying the other teen seriously.

"And Mom has a nice big backyasrd.. We live in a house.. You and your sister half live there anyhow, you know..." Ally then coughed. "I knmow we just got here but... I think he's choosing you."
PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2018 3:47 pm

"Eh, maybe," Cara said, not at all sure she would but willing to let Ally offer it all the same. She was trying to trust people a little more, sure, but... nah, nah most of them were still pretty shitty. At least her court seemed determined to try and help people become less-awful - that made most of them okay in her book.

When she heard the pup's name, she blinked and leaned back, squinting at the dog. "Snowball? Really? I'm so sorry, boy, you deserve a better name than that." Ugh. He's big and lovey and deserves something more suited to him.

In response to the name, the dog let out a whine, then nosed at Ally curiously, a soft 'wuff' escaping him. "Better to pick one that chooses you, don't you think?" Cara asked, shaking her head even as she provided another ear scratch to the big terrier.

"I mean. Sure, this big guy could use a home, but if it's me he's wanting, I don't have a place to give him - I know you do, don't look at me like that - but who knows how long I'll even be able to stick around..."

St. Mags seemed to be holding steady for the moment, but the last meeting with her social worker had gone - well, Cara didn't want to read too much into things. It was probably nothing. "Still, he does seem like an especially good pup."

Ally pet the dog behind the ears, smiling as she crooned before giving Cara a very serious look, one brow raising.

"Cara. I already told you to bring every shiny penny because of these sweet faces. And Mom's open to fostering.:"

Ally hesitated.

"And she knows you have a sister, so if you two don't mind room sharing... I mean..."

That caused an awkward pause, before Ally hugged the other teen tightly.

"I know he's the only pup among cats but he'd have you, and. I'd have you, and you'd have me. I can, ysnno. Back you in some of those fights."

Ally paused quietly.

"...I mean... You're awesome... I wouldn't have you here if I didn't want you happy. You're like the awesome sibling I never got." And she was rambling before kneeling, offering hugs to both.

"My sister?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2018 8:50 pm

"I don't think life works out that simply," Cara said, but leaned into the hug anyway. It was... a little hard to believe that anyone might want her - she couldn't be as quietly optimistic as the pup that was even now trying to wiggle himself up against her for more cuddles and affection. It just didn't seem plausible; she wasn't a good person, she wasn't even a nice person, really. Her sister, sure, she was a little shy but she was a decent sort. Likable.

Her, though? Nah.

And yet... she wanted to hope. She wanted to hope, for herself and for this dog alike.

"I ... alright," she said, and promptly buried her face in the dog's fur to hide the way the blood was rushing to her face. "...But we're going to see if he'll answer to some other name than Snowball, because that name's damn stupid and I've been called it before. Deal?"

"Deal. And we still visit the others too.." Ally nodded before reaching, petting both gently as she offered a soft, loving smile only afforded to her people, and she pet Cara's hair gently.

"I'll go get the paperwork going if you want to let him socialize with the other puppies and make sure he's alone. I'm not breraking up a family, I'd never hear the end of it. Luckily he's good with cats..." Ally winked, standing bgefore looking, motioning to Cara.

"And on the way home to Mom we're buying his supplies on our remaining pennies so he's got a great big happy when he's home."

The girl smiled, then, and turned, walking to talk to the staff calmly, letting everything sink in.

Hopefully... Hopefully this would be good... Because Ally wanted Cara to be happy.
