Physical Description: A little smaller than most boys his age, Dehka is lean and about as muscled as a typical working teenager. He has expressive green eyes and a smattering of freckles across his face. His dark brown hair is… fluffy, for lack of a better word, and generally unkempt. His feelings are usually written plainly across his face, whether he’s beaming in triumph, or weeping wholeheartedly from sorrow.
Personality: When compared to his loud and aggressive foster-brother, Dehka can come across as meek in comparison. He’s certainly not a bold or demanding boy--at least until someone is in need of aid. Then Dehka has no problem immediately offering up any assistance that’s within his power to grant! He’s a kind and good-natured individual, and he genuinely wants to help others however he can. People’s problems can easily become his own, because he sympathizes and relates all too well with their emotions. This can be both a blessing and a curse, for another’s sorrow or misery can easily overwhelm him to the point of tears.
Despite how well he relates to others, there is no question that Dehka is socially awkward. Having grown up with a brother who was the absolute definition of confident and could take control of any social situation without even trying… well, Dehka feels entirely inferior in comparison. He’ll certainly never charm people with a witty remark, but he tends to win them over purely because he’s so genuine. If anything, the boy is more or less a nerd. He over analyzes information to an extreme, and particularly delights in obsessing over clutch records and dragonriders in general. Since he isn’t a dragonrider yet, he’s basically become their biggest fan… at least, where High Reaches is concerned. He absolutely tries to stay up to date on who’s-who through said clutch records. There’s no way he can possibly know every rider in the Weyr, but you best believe that he knows about a good many of them! This, combined with his awkward tendencies, means he tends to hang back and look admiringly at people from afar.
Dehka knows he’s been extremely fortunate in his life, and that’s made him all the more determined not to fail. His mother and his foster father have done so much for him that he feels that to give anything less than his absolute all would be making light of their sacrifices, so he throws himself at every task with everything he’s got. He’s a remarkably quick-thinking boy, able to assess situations and make sound decisions in a blink of an eye. That doesn’t, however, mean that he always chooses to make those sound decisions.
Maybe it’s because he empathizes so easily with people, but Dehka will be the absolute first to throw himself into harm’s way if it means saving someone else. No doubt that it’s going to hurt, but he would much rather be injured (physically or emotionally) instead of another. Though his intentions are always good, Dehka can’t just stand idly by if he thinks he can do something to help… but that doesn’t mean that people are going to appreciate his efforts or actions.
All in all, the boy wants to live his life to help others. This desire has been inspired largely from his foster father, who he idealizes more than anyone else in the world. His foster father was able to instill these feelings in him… so surely, he can help do the same for people too, if he can help them with a smile.

History: Dehka does not remember much of his early life at all. Unbeknownst to him, he was born in one of the brothels of Nabol and immediately taken from his mother by the midwife who’d helped with his delivery. The boy was taken to another location to be raised, and perhaps he would have been sold into the mines when he was old enough. His mother, Nahna, somehow discovered his whereabouts when he was a little less than two Turns, and would come to check on him in secret whenever she was able. She never stayed very long, and she promised the boy that if he didn’t tell anyone about her, she would come back to see him with gifts and stories. Dehka was less interested in the prospects of gifts than he was with the warmth and affection the woman showed him. Though he didn’t realize Nahna was his mother, she was a loving, if extremely irregular presence in his life that he adored.
Life was simple enough, but then again, he was very young. All of that would change when Dehka was halfway through his fourth Turn. Nahna came unexpectedly one night, snatching up the young boy and fleeing into the night before he could even process what was happening. Frightened, but trusting this woman who had been nothing but nice to him, Dehka had clung to her as she whisked him away. Soon, he was thrust into the arms of a stranger--a stranger with an enormous bronze dragon. Frightened, the boy tried to cling to Nahna, but she only kissed his brow and told him to be good, and that she loved him with all her heart.
This was how Dehka came to be brought to High Reaches. It would have been easy for the bronzerider who had taken him to place him in the Weyr’s creche, but instead, the man adopted him as his own son. N’ori and bronze Meigth would not have an easy time on their hands at first. Dehka was lost, confused, and wanted very much to go go back. Many tears would be shed… but, eventually, the young boy realize that N’ori was a Safe Person, and could often be found clinging to him or hiding by Meigth.
N’ori’s first foster son, Kahbrohm… was not exactly fond of another child coming into his world, and didn’t bother to hide his feelings. Dehka tagged along after him, but he was very aware of his foster brother’s less than fond feelings towards him. Even as they grew, that never really changed.
When Threadfall came and Meigth was badly wounded, both boys stepped up to help however they could. While their personal relationship may not have been great, there was no doubting that the boys would do anything for their father and his dragon.
Now, they are both old enough to Stand, and Dehka is incredibly excited at the prospect. Maybe, if he’s really lucky, he could even Impress a dragon sired by Meigth one day…
