Hurst was commencing in his uncle-y duties. That meant taking his niece out for walkies. Joking aside, that seriously meant spending the day with her while she was off of school for the summer. He was, always, more than happy to oblige. He had picked her up from her mother's on his bike, and they zipped across the city to one of Destiny City's many parks. Apparently, according to Noah, this was a good spot for Pokemon Go. Thus here they were. The man strolled leisurely alongside his niece on the park's walk way, hands tucked into pockets. After a moment he canted his head in her direction. "Whenever you want to go get ice cream, Nono, just say the word."

Steele was having a marvelous time, and it all had to do with the fact that he'd caught an Alakazam just outside of the nearby park he was currently frequenting, because there'd been rumors of Legendaries showing up, and he wanted to be prepared.
He had done a raid battle earlier that morning and now he was quite happily meandering down a walkway with his phone in his hands, dressed as ever in one of his impeccable suits (he couldn't afford to be seen in bad taste, after all), and was only half paying attention to where he was going.
Something popped up on his screen. Steele stopped abruptly in the middle of the walkway and said, in tones of great excitement, "A ZAPDOS!"

Nono, also known as Noah, also known as Mimosa, chibi sailor senshi also known as Hurst pride and joy, was currently engrossed in her pokemon go. Even though she knew her uncle was with her, and he had been really cool when he brought her on the bike even though Sergei said it was illegal......
But Sergei was a square, and that's what Hurst said. She didn't get it, but Sergei felt very square-ish. She had also was able to join a raid and was on the hunt for some fire pokemon because it was summer and there was an abundance of fire and water...."I want ice cream soon!" The girl exclaimed.....
Except Zapdos appeared and she excitedly took off towards it instead, not even telling Hurst what was going on. Just that she had to go. She literally took post right by Steele to catch it, after hearing the man excitedly call it out. After a lot of balls, the small girl clenched her fist and then looked up at the other pokemon hunter.
"Did you get it?" Obviously Nono had no idea about stranger danger. Especially men in suits who looked pretty sleazy.

Steele was on his seventeenth Great Ball and was starting to get very annoyed. He only had four more Ultra Balls left, which meant he could either take a chance and throw one of them, or he could keep using the Great Balls and have more to throw but risk the chance of losing out on the Zapdos, especially since things had a habit of running away from him.
(He was still in outrage over the Blastoise Incident of March 2017.)
An eighteenth Great Ball was tossed, only to have the Zapdos break free after the first shake, and Steele let out a curse of annoyance that was probably inappropriate for young company, but this was mostly because he didn't realize there was young company until he heard her pipe up.
Steele, distracted, dragged his eyes away from his screen and glanced down at the little girl beside him, frowning.
"No," he said with a sniff. On screen, the Zapdos whirled around, wings flapping, and Steele gave it a pointed look, scowling at his phone. He tried another berry, which seemed to work a little, but then it broke free again, thankfully not running away just yet.
"Did you catch it?"

It was a habit of Hurst's to keep an eye out on their surroundings, especially now that he knew what he was up against living in Destiny City. So the man in the finely tailor suit looking frustrated after his shout was immediately noted and cataloged ahead. He played Pokemon Go as well? He also was no stranger to Noah not finishing conversations as she zipped on ahead to catch her Pokemon, but the fact she stopped next to the man had his gaze sharpening. He didn't pick up his pace though, and maintained the casual stroll until he was near the two. Well then. A brow rose as he eyed the two. It was quite a sight. A young teenage girl and a man in an expensive suit who was possibly verging on a mid-life crisis.

Noah waited a moment, judging the man's face before looking back at her phone.
"I did." She waited, "Do you want to be friends? I can trade it to you." She looked at him, "I don't need it. I just got lucky."
Another pause.
"Do you want ice cream?" A look was sent over to her uncle. Unlike Hurst, she didn't see a man in a mid-life crisis. She saw a new pokemon go friend!

Steele considered this.
It was a good deal. And there was ice cream involved.
"Wait," he said, then eyed the girl suspiciously, his gaze narrowing. "What do you want in return? You can't just trade it to me for nothing, no one wants nothing when they give something away. And you're asking for ice cream too, is that part of the bargain?"
He didn't see the man slowly strolling up the path towards them, Steele trying once again to catch the Zapdos.
He failed. Steele swore.

Hurst caught the tail end of the conversation, and honestly wasn't sure how he felt about buying an adult who was older than him, and a stranger to boot, ice cream. The read head came to a stop nearby, his expression neutral but a brow quirked as he looked at the man, and then at his niece. "I said I'd buy ice cream for you and I, NoNo, but now you're offering it to stranger danger here, hm? Do you have a job I don't know about where you can fork over some cash, or are you volunteering my dollars?" Hurst mused, eyeing the suit of Steele's now that he was closer. "Looks like your new friend could buy it and then some..."

"How come adults think there is always strings attached?" Noah cocked her head. "No, I'm asking if you want Ice cream? You can sit with us. That's my uncle!" The pre-teen moved over to her redheaded dad uncle and pointed at him.
"His name is Hurst, and he is pretty..." She waited for the word, "Snarky! That's what my mom says." She looked at her uncle. "He's a pokemon friend! And he didn't catch the Zapdos. I think he should get ice cream, because he didn't catch it!"
"I don't have cash...." Nono reached into her pockets and pulled it out. "I'm 13."

"There's always strings attached, kid," said Steele sternly, turning his blue eyed gaze down towards her again. She was a slight thing, not particularly like those children who always ran around screaming and yelling and otherwise driving him batshit insane. "Nothing in this world is for free, everything's got a price."
The Zapdos was still fluttering around on screen, mocking him. Steele gave it an annoyed look before he took in that there was a man striding up to him, tall and redheaded, with a brooding sort of expression that indicated that he was probably thinking Steele was some sort of creep or something.
Except the man had thought he was rich and this was the best part.
Steele flipped on the charm.
"Steele Moore," he said grandly, holding out a hand to the man. "I'm a lawyer. And I do like ice cream," he added, because it didn't hurt to schmooze where he could. A thirteen year old had caught the stupid Zapdos and left him in the lurch, and well, he should be able to get something out of it.
"I wouldn't say no to like, a cone or something."

"Snarky is the best your mother could come up with to keep it PG-13?" Hurst asked his niece. He clucked his tongue. "I'm disappointed." Hurst briefly eyed Steele's out stretched hand, but his own remained in his pockets. "A lawyer, hm? It got worse." He said, tone somewhat cheerful to express his disbelief. "You wouldn't say no to a cone?" A corner of Hurst's lips quirked up. "That's dandy, because I'm going to say no to you." Because he was not buying a grow man who was a lawyer playing Pokemon Go ice cream. He looked to his niece. "Of course I can't stop him if he comes along and just happens to go to the same stand we do. It is a free country after all and this is a park. Let's go, Noah." He replied, resuming his walk down the path to said stand and passing Steele.

"That's a pretty sad way to think, but I'm a kid, so I guess I don't really have to worry about strings." She shrugged again, "If you don't want Zapdos though, then I can trade other things! I'm looking for Blastoise or Lapras." She smiled.
"Lapras is my favorite!" She almost squeaked at her uncle who was well...her uncle. "That's his way of saying you can join us!" She reached out to take Steele's hand in her own and lead him to the ice cream truck. "Do you like chocolate, strawberry or vanilla?" The girl obviously didn't catch on to Hurst being like he was.
She leaned closer into the lawyer. "Hurst doesn't like people who messes with law stuff." She nodded, "But don't worry, He likes me."

The lack of a returned handshake, as well as the dismissive look, made Steele inwardly curse the redheaded man, but he was used to people thinking the worst of him. He was a lawyer, after all. And he was quite used to slapping on the charm when he needed to, especially when people were being, shall he say, reluctant.
"That's quite rude of you, you know," he informed the man. "I was having a perfectly nice and ordinary conversation, just for the record. We were discussing the benefits of catching a Zapdos, something you clearly don't understand, but that's all right, not everyone can be quite as up to par as the rest of us."
Steele smiled charmingly at the man, and then felt the girl's - Noah's - hand slide into his, dragging him away from her stodgy uncle towards the ice cream truck. "Strawberry," said Steele, stumbling slightly, trying to toss a pokeball with one hand still on the screen, thumb swiping madly. "I like strawberry. Or all three, you know, like neopolitan."
He turned his head to squint at the man. "Why doesn't he like law stuff?"

Hurst didn't acknowledge or reply to Steele's spiel after his dismissal. It was a shining example of not giving any ********> that would have made his best friend proud. Who he didn't ignore, of course, was his niece. It was somewhat of an exasperated and suffering sigh that echoed from the red head ahead of the pair following Noah's comment about him being a bad boy.
"That has nothing to do with it, Nono." Hurst replied ahead, because of course he could hear everything they were saying, despite his choice to not partake in the majority of it. "My problem is with the fact that justice is interpreted, handled, and served by clowns in the midst of a mid-life crisis in suits that can equal the cost of a traditional funeral."
He smiled to himself, eyes on the ice cream truck ahead.
"I just can't take it seriously."
