Physical Description: Tall for a woman and well-muscled, Remeda is in as fit a shape as she can be, and two pregnancies hasn't slowed her down. Her black hair is long and wavy, most often pulled back into a high ponytail, and still unruly. Her skin is a middling shade of brown and her large, brown eyes look almost as dark as her hair. Most of her clothes and equipment are made from the leather of the beasts she's killed.
Personality: Remeda can be as harsh and unyielding as the desert she grew up in. She can be ruthless when it comes to survival, and aside from the wandering caravans that trade with her cothold, she is intensely suspicious of strangers. She's not necessarily introverted, but living on the edge of the desert brings few visitors, and she's never found it easy to make friends. That doesn't mean she has no sense of humor; it's just that Remeda smiles so rarely that people rarely realize when she is joking. She is also fiercely loyal to her family and values their happiness and welfare above everything else. Except Ordath. Remeda learned from a young age to be both patient and stubborn. She never rushes, but she'll never leave a thing undone, either.

History: For several generations now, Remeda's family has lived in a small cothold on the edge of the desert in Igen Hold, and at least one relative per generation has been bonded to a dragon. Since the land is so dry, they can only farm a tiny bit of land, and most of their livelihood comes from tending herdbeasts and hunting the wild wherries and other creatures of the desert. It's dragons that scout far and wide to find water and wildlife; without them, it would be nearly impossible for the cothold to survive the way it does.
After coming of age, the children of Remeda's extended family would be taken by a dragonrider relative to whichever Weyr was most convenient with a clutch on its sands, to be either Searched or turned away. Not all Impressed immediately, if ever, but sooner or later, they all returned to the family, with a dragon as often as not. Remeda was no different from the rest. At sixteen, a greenrider uncle brought her to Benden Weyr, where a clutch had just been laid by a visiting gold. She was officially Searched, and a few months later, a burly blue dragon hatched and picked her out of the crowd, announcing himself as Orbath.
The two of them did well enough in weyrling training, but they never quite settled in to Benden and didn't make many friends there. Both of them knew that sooner or later, they would be leaving anyway. Soon after graduating, Remeda and Orbath left Benden for the cothold in Igen, never to return. One turn later, Remeda met Z'kare, a charming brownrider from one of the trading caravans, and a turn after that, they were married with a baby on the way. Her son Dakar was born eight turns ago, and three turns later, a daughter named Reiza joined him. Being a wife and mother didn't stop Remeda from hunting desert wherries for their feathers and meat, while Z'kare focused on bartering for the things they couldn't make for themselves.
It was a perfectly good life for their little cothold until Thread returned. Remeda's family weathered the Fall well, with little greenery to imperil them and dragons to taken them out of harm's way, though they did lose some valuable herdbeasts. However, with the return of Thread, dragonriders are flocking back to the Weyrs to fight it. Remeda has no wish to leave her home to fight Thread, but with young dragonriders no longer given free reign upon graduation, it seems increasingly unlikely that her family's cothold will be able to outlive Remeda's generation and their dragons.

Physical Description: Ordath's a broad, stocky blue, with wings that seem huge for his body. He has great strength and endurance for his color, though he's still no match for a bronze. His hide is a cloudy mish-mash of light and dark and slate blue.
Personality: Steady and stubborn like his rider, Ordath is well-adapted to the harshness of the desert and the isolation of having only a handful of other dragons around. He's actually more outgoing, and more light-hearted, than Remeda, though it's not a side of himself he'll show to outsiders. He is fond of children no matter whose they are, and he'll tease and joke with the other dragons bonded to Remeda's clan. Around outsiders, however, he becomes unusually cool and taciturn.
