floating steps

Maybelle didn't like being center stage, but she did smile and curtsy at the camera as anyone would expect from such a petite, gentle looking woman. She looked positively cute in her outfit and not at all like she belonged in an ultra active competition. That is, until she took her coat off, and the bare muscles in her arms came to light. The crowd collectively gasped and cheered almost simultaneously, and she laughed along with them as she flexed. Mama didn't raise a delicate flower now, and she was going to show them if they didn't believe.

First things first: the floating steps. Maybelle tightened her ponytail and stretched her legs one last time before jumping off. The platforms were sturdy, and her sneakers gripped them well enough. She bounded from foot to foot not quite lazily, but casually nonetheless. It was just the beginning of the course, of course it wouldn't be all that difficult.

big dipper

Why the hell was this thing called the big dipper? It was just a noodly looking ladder. Maybe everything in Zenith had to have a hardcore name or risk losing cred or whatever.

Maybelle hopped on and began to swing her legs for momentum, face set in concentration. Here was where the show really began.

pipe fitter (4 due to roll above)

She had almost gotten to land on the top of the pipe, but her own eyes had deceived her--she smacked lower than anticipated and slid a few inches more. While nothing left her pretty mouth, Maybelle inwardly swore a storm that she was sure her roommates would have lauded the creativity of.

THE CURSE OF BEING SHORT.

But she moved on as if nothing had happened, with the bustle of a busy mother, and grabbed onto the extensions. It was harder to get momentum this way, but her grip was as firm as ever. No way was she backing down now.

block runner

The cubes were what she dreaded most, honestly. Having watched a few competitors go across it with varying degrees of success, Maybelle didn't anticipate having a good time of it herself. Speed was what she tended to lack, whether it be from her own thicker build or just having less leg length to really kick herself off. But she couldn't stand and ruminate on the course either. Best to just wing it.

So she did, almost literally. With a short running start, the woman lightly ran from cube to cube, her arms extended a bit to help maintain her balance. It was....less painful than she had assumed, though her feet burned from the effort. Almost there, she told herself, almost there!

spin cycle

God damn it, she was not on her game today. Was it nerves? Maybelle Grace did not get nervous! She was perfectly capable of handling herself and had learned the art of sass from two masters! She hmph'd quite petulantly at the upside down cage she hung from as it spun a little with her weight. How dare it try to mess her up this far into the course?

Well, she was going to treat them like she treated the deadbeat dad not watching her on television, and with scornful scowls lunged from basket to basket. Slowly, anyway. Her time wasn't going to be great, but what mattered was completing it at all.

warped wall

She didn't have the breath for it, or she would have been cursing again. But the wall was just a simple curve--she'd handled hurdles much worse than this! One could almost see the tears of frustration beginning to bud in her eyes as Maybelle forced her way up the obstacle, come hell or high water. She seemed for a moment to have almost fallen backwards but moved her center of gravity just enough to keep herself at the top.

Awesome. First part......over......
