Physical Description: At 5'10", Jeri is wiry, thin, and has disproportionately long legs. She has the body of an Olympic gymnast -- trim, not an ounce of fat, all muscle, fashion-model-catwalk-correct scrawny. She has very plain facial features and is no one's beauty, with dark chocolate brown skin, an oval face, heavy cupid-bow lips, high round cheekbones, and eyes so dark they appear black, with thick, dark lashes -- she considers her eyelashes her most flattering feature, and uses them a lot. However, she does have extremely nice teeth: next to her eyelashes, she very much admires her teeth, and smiles a lot to show them off. She has a very animated, expressive face -- would make a top-rank street mime. Her hair is black and tightly curly like lamb's wool. When she first arrived at the Weyr, she had an afro that would make a '70's Jackson 5-wannabe wilt with envy. She quickly had it cropped down very close to her skull, and kept it that way for a few Turns; she's been letting it grow into dreadlocks, and decorates them with beads and other shiny objects. Speech-wise, she has a colorful, wacky way of talking -- her syntax is sometimes scrambled, and her vocabulary and way of describing something can be unusually colorful.
Clothing-wise, put on your sunglasses to shield yourself, please! Jeri has a... unique sense of fashion. She loves flashy, bold, bright colors, unusually designed clothing, and exotic prints. She'll combine elements of clothing normally considered not fashionable together and get away with it through sheer chutzpah. It doesn't matter what the situation is -- she'll be over dressed, weirdly dressed, and often court-jester dressed.
Personality: The single, best way to describe Jeri can be done in one word: eccentric. This girl is so eccentric that many people believe she's crazy. She was pretty much left to her own devices when it came to developing a code of morals and behavior as a child -- and so she's grown like a fairy-weed. She is a free thinker and a free speaker, with a mobile mind and mouth. She's fey and impulsive, and at times a real bubblehead, as things she doesn't care about will literally evaporate from her mind.
Jeri is a strong-willed girl with a very centered belief of who and what she is, and of what space she fills in the universe. Despite childhood abuses, Jeri has an durable sense of self-confidence. She is always optimistic, and is endlessly affectionate. She'll hug absolute strangers as if they were long-lost relatives, and she's very much a touchy-feeling person when it comes to physical contact. Again, she is an optimistic girl -- almost sickeningly so. She'll grieve when she has to, but otherwise, she LIKES being happy, and so goes out of her own mental way to remain so.
Jeri is a walking morale-department -- she's always on the lookout for an unhappy face, and once she spots one, she tries to make that person's day a little brighter. She considers it her personal mission in life to make people happy, and she'll go to outrageous lengths to make it so. She is not someone who is interested in organizing physical things -- she deals with people, not inventory. She has a bottomless reservoir of patience when it comes to being another soul's shoulder to cry on, and very good at being at the right place at the right time with exactly the right words to keep an absolute stranger from jumping off the proverbial bridge.
Jeri's range of skills are nearly as eccentric as she is. She's a consummate actress, performer, and ham. And a singer and dancer, although neither her singing or dancing is at all properly traditional. An excellent acrobat, she's nearly a contortionist. She can also juggle quite proficiently, including multiple knives or flaming torches.
As a downside of Jeri's poor technical education, she is nearly illiterate and has little patience with the chore of learning to read and write once she's forced to at the Weyr. Finds the recorded word to be lifeless and bland. Her mathematical skills are exceedingly weak as well: if she can't count it easily on her fingers and toes, why bother? Finally -- Jeri always has an ear to the Weyr's gossip grapevine, and would never hesitate to add her piece.

History: Jeri was sold to a band of holdless as a 1 1/2 year old child. These holdless were the shiftless, dishonest type who survived through petty theft and public performances at Gathers (as well as by -- it is rumored -- acting as collectors for a child-slavery ring operating between the Continents). The leader of this band, an ex-Craftmaster Harper by the name of Currae, was cast out of the Northern Hall and his entire craft soon after earning his craftmaster knots after he was convicted of molesting a child at Ista Hold. Currae went south and began the life of a troubadour -- over a space of a decade, he had collected a small knot of companions into his band. Jeri became Currae's child -- never formerly adopted by him, but she was his favorite pet. It is certainly a sign of his affection for her that Jeri was never sold off as a child, although she did endure physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at various times with the band.
Jeri learned various performance and thieving skills from the holdless band, and in her opinion, had a mostly-wonderful childhood roaming the Northern Continent. She participated in the group's performances and often in their petty thievery as well when required. The freedom from responsibility which the traveling life offered suited her, as did the myriad types of people she got to meet during the course of those travels.
Her traveling life ended, however, when Currae's band came to High Reaches Weyr for the Turn's End Gather when she was 17, and she was Searched.
