Why was he doing this again? Oh yeah that's right, he lost a bet. Patrick O'Ryan eyed the course and knew he was going to get wet. There was no way in hell he was going to make it to the end let alone make it up that warped wall. Yes he was a runner, yes he worked out and trained like his life depended on it... because it did... but he was not some freaking monkey type superhero who would be able to traverse this particular jungle gym from hell.

Why, oh why had he bet on the world cup? It wasn't even like he had bet money on the thing or even for the finals it was one stupid game. He had been at work and gotten tricked into the bet. The tall redhead mentally paused and corrected himself, he had joined in on the bet willingly. No tricks involved. Even to himself Pat didn't want to lie. They had all been talking and joking and somehow the conversation had drifted to this Zenith event the city was holding. Even knowing better, especially knowing better, Pat kept his mouth shut while his colleagues all boosted about being able to run it faster then each other.

When the challenges started flying he had remained quiet, just sipping his iced tea, he had even evaded the first few times someone called him out but when they started to call him a chicken and a girl he couldn't help it. It was like he was possessed or something. He had opened his mouth to tell them all to go ******** themselves, he wasn't going to do it but instead he had ended up saying he would run the course and leave all them eating his dust. He didn't even get a chance to conveniently 'forget' about his edict before one of the newbies had handed him the entry form.

So here he was, standing in a crowd of other hopefuls, wishing he was at home watching reruns of MASH. He really didn't want to do this but time to back out had been and gone. Now he was standing at the starting point waiting for the signal to go. He was going to end up wet, he just knew it.

((Rolling for all challenges right now-not sure yet where he will drop out))

Floating Steps

A little leap-frog, a little pinball bumpers! It's up to you to make it from platform to platform as quickly as you can to cross between Point A and Point B. There's a set of six bumpers angled at 45 degrees. It's going to take a lot of agility to complete this run, although strength might come into play if you find yourself falling.

If you roll 1-3 and have chosen strength as your modifier: The number that you roll is the platform that you nearly fall off of. Your strength helps you catch yourself before you fall completely into the water.
If you have chosen agility as your modifier: Add +1 to your roll and follow that prompt instead.

1 - Your shoe(s) are wet, but you didn't fall in! Hope you enjoy the sound of squish, squish, squish on the road to Victory!
2 - We saw you slip there! Take an extra second to catch your breath, you might need it.
3 - Bumpy start, but after the third bumper you've finally gotten the hang of it! It might just be smooth sailing through the last three. Maybe.
4 - You'd make this look easy... If you were a frog. Or something that leapt better. But you're not, so it doesn't look easy, but at least it's not painful to watch?
5 - Alright! That's the way you do it!
6 - Flawless.

The first two floating steps were manageable, sort of. He hadn't realized just how far apart they were, his legs could stretch but it was... well a stretch. One that nearly proved 'fatal' as his foot slipped and he nearly fell off of the third riser. Only some quick hands and more muscles then it should have taken did Pat prevent a watery exit from the challenge. Man that would have sucked massively. Going out on the first part of the first level would have given the guys back at the station house so much ammo that Pat would be feilding jokes for the next year at least. Or at least until someone else did something monumentally stupid... so maybe a week.

After saving himself from a tumble Pat took an extra moment or two, well aware of the time ticking away, and finished the last of the risers without any further trouble. He had gotten the hang of it, it just too nearly falling to figure it out.

((Second Roll: 2))
Quote:
Big Dipper

Jump up and grab on, you're in for a ride! Use your strength to keep your grip as you slide down the track. Holding on is only the first part of this trip, though. The important part is that you stick your landing as you launch off the end towards your next step...

If you roll 1-2 and have chosen strength as your modifier: Your strength is on your side and you hold on tight for the ride! Congrats! For this segment your roll is now 3.
If you roll 5 or 6 and have chosen strength as your modifier: Add +1 to roll #3 for the Pipe Fitter. Who knew you'd be able to launch yourself that far after hanging on so tight?
If you roll 5 or 6 and have chosen agility as your modifier: Add +1 to roll #3 for the Pipe Fitter. Nice air time, bro.

1 - You've managed to grab on with one hand before the bar starts to slide. Uh oh. Hold on tight! Keep your grip! DON'T FALL.
2 - Two hands. TWO HANDS. You get a second hand onto the bar but can you keep your grip?
3 - You've got the grip, but do you have the air? It doesn't look like it, bro. Are your hands starting to slip? -1 to roll #3 for the Pipe Fitter [1 is the lowest you can roll].
4 - Alright! Arms might be a little sore, but at least you're holding on!
5 - This is how we do it. Were you a roller-coaster in a past life?
6 - Flawless

More than a little leery of the next challenge, especially after his almost ill fated bath on the first one, Pat approached the course slowly with his purple gaze scrutinizing it for any hidden tricks. He didn't see any, it looked pretty simple but he definitely knew better now. With mental fingers crossed Pat took a running leap and latched onto the bar which rapidly plunged down the metal track.

He stifle the urge to shout, defiantly wouldn't give him any 'points' at work if he screamed like a little girl, and held on for dear life only to have said grip ripped off when the pipe came to a abrupt stop. The tall redhead was plummeting towards the mat, disturbing close to the edge of the water, and knew that if he wanted to be safe he needed to stretch like there was no tomorrow.

God Damn it! Why did he ever agree to this!

By some miracle he made it safely to the otherside of the water pit, dry and still in the game. He was just winded and sore and seriously contemplating tanking the next part of this hellish course.

((Third Roll: 2-1= 1))
Quote:
Pipe Fitter

Launch from the end of the dipper and grab on! The higher up you latch on to the foam pipe the less of a climb you'll have before it's time to swing. Again, you're going to need your strength to support you as you sway across two trapeze-style pipe bars. Time your leaps just right and you'll be able to shimmy down the trunk at the end where you'll have a moment to catch your breath and prepare your balance.

If you roll 1-3 and have chosen agility as your modifier: Launching through the air is the easy part, it's holding on that's kind of awful.

If you roll 1-3 and have chosen strength as your modifier: You've got no problem holding on, but are you really going to make that jump between swings?

1 - You almost missed the first trapeze! You're going to land in the water if you don't get your act together!
2 - You can't just climb up onto the first trapeze and sit there all day... Other people want to run the course too.
3 - Dipper a little rough on you? Making it a little harder to hold on? You can do it! Keep telling yourself that.
4 - Don't look down. Oh no... You looked down.
5 - Look at you shimmy and shake! Now get on to the next round!
6 - Flawless,

Somehow Pat had made it through the first two parts of the course but as he tried to shimmy his way up the foam pipe of the third challenge he realized just how ill advised doing this whole thing without training for it was. His arms burned and his legs ached and each inch he shimmied up just made him that much more tired. Just when he thought the pipe was endless and he would be inching his way up like some human caterpillar for the next century or so he reached the first trapeze.

After a moment to catch his breath he reached for the first trapeze and damn near missed. Had he not saved himself last second he would have taken the tumble into the water far below. He needed to be more careful!

Even as he mentally chided himself on his sloppy moves the tall redhead reached out for the second trapeze. Unfortunately for him he shifted from the first one to the second one just a little too soon because his fingers slipped and no amount of scrambling could save him. Next thing Pat knew he was splashing down into the water, out of the challenge and out of luck. Damn.

With a grimace he leveraged himself out of the pool and muttered a thanks to the staffer who passed him a towel. This definitely wasn't how he wanted to go out but at least he didn't fail on the very first part of the challenge. That was something... right?
