It was D-day.
To be more accurate, it was not, in fact, D-day, but it was the day that Caspian had invited his twin sister - newly reinstated back into the real world from her stint in jail and rehabilitation (he was still grumbling about that) to tag along with himself and Michael on an outing to, of all places, the zoo.
Mostly because it seemed fun, partially because Caspian just really liked animals and Michael still wouldn't let them get a dog, and also because he'd been married for over a year now and Cassie still hadn't actually met his husband.
His several years older and wiser husband. Caspian, dressed in his usual neon colored attire and several layers, complete with a pair of yellow rimmed sunglasses, now stood just outside the zoo gate, one arm wrapped around Michael's waist, the other hand holding his cell phone, squinting at the screen.
"It's gonna be fine," he told Michael, which was mostly just telling himself. "Really."

It really was ******** Cassie got to meet the man that had been getting the whole of her twin's attention over the last year and half...two years? However long it'd been, Cassie couldn't remember exactly when Caspian's presence had begun to lessen around the house, but it'd been a while now. When he'd moved out it hadn't been that surprising, but when she'd heard he'd been married? Well, she had a little bit of a bone to pick with him over the lack of communication that'd befallen them. Which, to be fair, she hadn't exactly tried to amend, but she'd been annoyed at her twin. At him putting someone else above her, and then not having a chance to meet that someone. At not getting an invite to the wedding. But today she was going to be seeing her brother again after a little over a year, but more importantly, she was finally going to meet the mysterious Micheal Gallos. Cassie had no idea what to expect of him, but she was going into this meeting with an open mind. Her hair, recently refreshed with teal ombre against jet black, had grown out quite a bit. What had once been an undercut was now an asymmetrical bob that stopped just short of her chin on one side, but tickled along her shoulder on the other. Expecting it to be hot at the Zoo, she'd worn a pair of cut off jean shorts and a very light weight long sleeved shirt that dipped in the back to show the lace and the strap work of the bralet underneath. Wide, dark lenses covered eyes that matched Caspian's in color and shape. "Seriously, bro." She called ahead as she strode up towards the entrance of the zoo. "You're still a fashion disaster."

Michael knew that Caspian had always been nervous about him meeting his family, and if Michael didn’t know better, he would have started to be concerned that there was something wrong with him that would make him undesirable to introduce. Caspian had weird anxieties, and Michael did his best not to push him even though he thought it was kind of important to meet family. Would Caspian’s sister not approve of… what? Their relationship? That they were both men? That there was a clear age difference between them?
Unlike Caspian, Michael’s attire wasn’t nearly as vibrant, although he kept to wearing a comfortable grey tee-shirt and navy running shorts that reached just above the knee. If Caspian wanted to swelter in the heat with his multiple layers, then that was on him.
The moment Caspian’s sister showed up, it was obvious as to who she was. She and Caspian looked incredibly similar, but that’s usually what happened among siblings, especially twins.
“He’s going to regret it, because he’s going to melt in this heat,” Michael suggested with a glance from Caspian’s sister to his husband, before he reached out to offer his hand. “You must be Cassie,” he said with a bright smile. “Michael Lyons-Gallo. I’m sorry it’s taken so long to finally meet. I had to grab Cas’s phone from him to introduce myself to your mother.”
While Michael didn’t have multi-colored hair, he did wear it slightly shorter on the sides, so that if his bangs weren’t pushed back, they would easily fall over his strikingly bright blue eyes. He stood nearly a foot taller than the twins, and probably twice their weight from his athleticism and general build.

Michael being in gray was unsurprising but also kind of soothing in a way because it was both familiar and expected, and Caspian liked this. He kept his arm around his husband's waist, mostly because he was nervous and trying not to be, but also because, well, Michael was his husband.
But Cassie's reappearance after over a year of not seeing her made his head snap up, a grin drawing irrepressibly across his face in spite of everything. She looked a little more rough around the edges than he'd last remembered, but her hair was cut stylishly and flatteringly around her face, identical to Caspian's save for his slightly more pointed chin.
"No one asked you to judge my clothing choices," said Caspian breezily, and let go of Michael long enough to reach out and grab Cassie, throwing her into a hug before he stepped back again. The sun was beating down on them all, bright sunlight splashing across their faces.
"I'm not going to melt," he added, which was a perfect lie and they all knew it. "But, uh, yes, this is - my husband."
It still made him feel a sense of giddy excitement and ridiculous pleasure just saying the word. Caspian glanced up at Michael, feeling his heartbeat quicken just a little, before he looked back at his sister, flashing her a usual, bright grin.
"Yeah, well, Mom was, you know. Mom. She yelled at me later for not introducing him properly."

"Its a service I provide for free, dear brother," she returned as he pulled her into a tight hug. She returned it, but it came with a pinch in his side. A tiny micro aggression born from a plethora of feelings regarding her twin concerning the last couple of years, and not having anyway to work through them. Until now, of course. Stepping free of his grasp she went for Micheal, taking his hand and offering a firm shake. "It's nice to finally meet you, Micheal." It came with a flick of her eyes at her brother, but her tone was perfectly pleasant. Tucking her hands into her back pockets, she snorted softly. "Yeah, well. Maybe if you didn't run off and get married and not tell anyone about it." She rather doubted the delay in contact between the rest of the family and Caspian's husband had anything to do with Micheal. "Why'd you wait so long?" And that was serious, dark blues meeting dark blues. Had he thought they'd care that he was dating a man? It wasn't as if Cassie was the straightest branch on the bush, and that had never been a secret.

Michael smiled warmly as he looped his arm back over Caspian’s shoulders, knowing that the questions would come. They couldn’t exactly tell people why Caspian had been injured and put into the hospital, or that they decided to get married right then was because it wasn’t certain that Caspian would have survived his injuries.
However, why Caspian had held off on telling his family was beyond even Michael’s comprehension. He seemed perfectly content to be with Michael, and yet he didn’t want to share it with his immediate family that they were even together.
Michael’s own family had found out on accident, but they all knew. He’d talked to Marissa about his feelings for Caspian even before they started dating seriously. And she still made comments that it was a bad decision. That the age difference was too much for them to be able to see things eye to eye. She spoke from her own experience, Michael knew, but that didn’t mean they had to follow in her and her ex-husband’s footsteps.
“Even though it’s been a while, we still haven’t had time for a reception with our families and friends,” Michael offered. It wasn’t exactly an excuse, but hopefully this would be better.
“Since we’ve both got classes to worry about, there hasn’t been much time. But we’ll be sending you a save the date card for when we finally do get something planned. I don’t suppose you have your passport? My grandmother is trying to convince us to use her castle in Belgium.”

Caspian resisted an urge to stick out his tongue at Cassie. Truth be told, the reasons why he hadn't exactly invited anyone to his wedding had been because he'd gotten married in the hospital, after almost dying thanks to that damned General. He and Michael hadn't told anyone, hadn't called anyone, had simply just...done it. Because it had felt right, and it was right. He had never felt more right about anything in his life.
His hesitation at telling Cassie, however...
"You were in jail," said Caspian, which was perfectly true. "And I mean, I didn't want to make things weird or some s**t."
He was not ashamed of Michael. He never had been. But telling your twin sister that you'd gotten married without her, to a man almost eleven years your senior...he had not wanted them to look at him and tell him that it had been a horrible decision. That he'd made a mistake. That he was somehow wrong for falling in love with someone so much older and so little like him that it was almost laughable.
But Michael was everything that he had ever wanted in his life. Michael was the good in his life, and Caspian loved him more than he could ever have truly put into words. The fear that stemmed from a bad reception nagged at him, even as he tried to push it aside, insecure in both himself and the reactions of anyone who he loved.
"Yeah, well," said Caspian, rubbing a finger over his ring unconsciously. "Sorry, Cassie. I didn't mean to keep anything from you. And yes, the castle in Belgium, I forgot about that," he added with a small snort. "Did you tell her only if it's a haunted castle?"

Pretty features pinched at Caspian's rebuttal and she shot him a cold look. "I wasn't in jail," she insisted shortly. "I was banished to the country to work on some stupid farm as a work release...thing." That last was accompanied with a wave of her hand. She'd hated the farm, hated being cut off from everyone and everything, but it was a vast improvement to actual jail time. "And ******** you for not writing," she added, arms crossing. No doubt her twin had been busy, and probably not exactly happy with her for getting arrested, but he really didn't have a leg to stand on for the latter, cause he was just as big a delinquent as she was. Well, had been. Maybe being hitched had tamed him. Drawing in a deep breath she held it for a moment before releasing it slowly. They weren't here to deal with her hurt feelings. They were here for her to meet the newest member of their family. This was important, and she wasn't going to ruin it being a b***h. There was time for that late-- "Excuse me, did you say your grandmother owns a castle?" Blue eyes widened as she looked up at the tall man her brother was leaning into. "Like a legit ******** castle?"Her head tipped as she looked up at him. "Are you loaded?" Good job, Cas!

Michael’s jaw clenched tightly, his smile turning just a little forced with all the talk about getting arrested and jail time. For someone who had done his number of horrible things, he could say he had never been arrested. There was too much at stake for him to get arrested, too many repercussions on top of damaging his family’s name more than he already had for being the “Navy dropout”, even if he was honorably discharged with a valid reason.
“My grandmother owns the haunted castle, not me,” he snorted softly in amusement. “From what I’ve been told, it was run down and going for a great price. She collects real estate, which I find boring.”
He wisely chose not to continue the conversation about anyone being arrested, but he was sure Caspian would know how he felt, especially since when they first met Caspian was doing something illegal.
“I’ve got our tickets if you wanted to head in before it gets too crowded,” he suggested, holding up his phone with the QR code for the ticket booth to scan.

"Okay, maybe not jail -" But she'd certainly been somewhere that was not a good place. AKA she'd been given some sort of community service - work release thing, whatever it was, because she'd been in enough bad behavior to constitute it.
" - and I did write. I sent you a postcard!" said Caspian, which was absolutely true. Granted, the entire postcard had said something along the lines of Get well soon ******** and get out soon but that was beside the point. "Besides, you know what a shitty writer I am."
This was also true, though he probably could have made more effort. Caspian could tell that his sister was hurt, because even if she didn't say it, he knew her better than anyone else did. He could sense it, in that weird sort of fifth sense that stemmed from being identical twins.
Just like how Caspian didn't need to look sideways at his husband to sense the underlying discomfort at the words jail time. Michael was a good and upstanding citizen and he prided himself on that - their very first meeting had been an indication of that, for Pete's sake. It was part of why Caspian loved him, even if he had tried to pull Michael's arm in the other direction the first few times they'd run into each other.
Caspian slid an arm around Michael's waist, giving him a little squeeze; a casual gesture that to anyone else might have seemed just idle affection, but for Caspian was an attempt to reassure his husband that his own illegal activities had ceased, minus the ones that happened when he was powered up. "People just collect real estate? Like baseball cards?"
Not that he knew anyone who actually collected baseball cards anymore. Caspian glanced over at Cassie, grinning. "Maybe we'll go explore it one day. And yeah, let's get inside before it gets busier, we don't want to be crammed into a park with a bunch of tourists."

"Still, if she's collecting real estate that means she's got some money in the bank." And if Micheal was in good standing with this grandmother than he probably stood to inherit a piece of that impressive pie. What it all boiled down to was the Gallo family was in no way hurting for money. Not that any of that really mattered beyond Cassie knowing her brother was being taken care of. Which was nice. It'd also be really cool to explore a haunted castle. Cassie gave her twin a funny look at idea of anywhere in Destiny City being over run by tourists. "With the amount of crazy s**t that goes on here? Please." But they'd stood long enough in the parking lot. It was time to go look at some badass animals. Hooking Cas's other arm, she got their little train moving towards the front gate.
