Ocean Spray Caverns

Over the cliff side of the far eastern side of the island is a massive cliff face with an extremely steep climb. 45 meters from the top is a cave opening to one of the hidden gems of this island. A path takes you around the side of the cliff face and down to the entrance. The cave is a tunnel leading underground through the island, but not more than a mile. Within this place are countless gems and other rare treasure waiting to be found. There isn't much light in the cavern, but what light does shine through bounces off the walls where they are glistening with salt water. This gives off a shimmering look to the walls, which often times makes folks think they see some valuable ore and instead find nothing but cave wall. Since many miners come here in search of a rare stone called the Star Ruby, a foreman has been hired by the Hunter's Association to manage the mine and purchase ores found by hunters while they mine. He also sells all types of Mining Kits.

    Mining System
As long as a character possess any level of Mining Kit, they can come to this thread to do some mining. When mining, there is a process. Firstly, a player must create a new post with a post action. Select Roll Dice and choose the 6-sided die. Roll two dice. The first result determines what item is obtained. The total of the second die determines how many units were found. After rolling, edit the post with your actual RP post. At least 250 words are required to obtain the items. The player may continue to mine afterwards, but always be sure to roll first before trying to post. Each post of mining consumes 10 Stamina. Also, if players are lucky, they can find a Star Ruby. When you're done mining or if your bag is too full, you can return to the entrance of the mine to sell to the foreman.

Lomen sfiritedly made his way over the landscape over to the cliffs of Whale Island to where the mines were. A beautiful funny day with the sea air rushing to him and the ocean dazzling in the mid days light. Once reaching the edge of the cliff Lomen took a moment to enjoy the gorgeous view and took a deep breath in of salty air and the overpowering stench of -

*Cough cough*
Lome: "Oh god"
*Hack*
[-1 Hp]

After a deep breath in, Lomen was greeted with a foul stench as if he had just been thrown into a gutter city dumpster. The scent was powerful enough to bring him down to all fours, almost resulting in him falling down the cliff face and towards some nasty rocks below.

Lomen: "Oh god what's that te- *urp*, Terrible stench?"

While regaining his composure and attempting to numb his senses to the small, Lomen focused on a gathering of birds on the rock face, close to the crashing waves of the sea. Underneath the scavenging birds was a decaying corpse of some unfortunate sea creature that had gotten to close to the cliffs and paid the price. Gathering himself, Lomen took note of an outhouse nearby to his left and a few empty lawn chairs to his right. Apparently this event could likely be considered a favorite past time for the veteran miners in these parts, but the time of day meant they were likely already deep in the mines by now.

Thanking his fortunate timing, Lomen made the small trek down the cliff side to the mine itself. On the way down he was weary of possible carcasses below and took a few deep breaths to enjoy some fresh sea air. Refreshing air when dead body stench isn't included. When reaching the mine entrance Lomen checked in with the foreman and got a basic mining kit, checking the contents to make sure the kit wasn't too worn away from being in storage. With everything checked, Lomen descended into the mine to join the other miners, hoping for some decent materials to be gained this excursion.

Inside Lomen met with some of the more veteran miners and laughed along with them, telling them about his experience with the 'special' cliff side fragrance. Naturally a bit of hazing issued to welcome Lomen into the mines, showing a few of the tunnels to never tunnel down until you become more experienced by pushing him down the steep slope of the tunnel entrance. After a bit of climbing accompanied by hysterical laughter, the miners found Lomen to at least bear it and put him through a few other 'trials'.

The trials mainly consisted of the veterans leading Lomen into hazardous situations that without reading the wall signs could have caused major injuries.

Lomen: "Are you trying to get me killed on the first day?"

Veteran: "What? We are just letting you test the waters, that's all."

Lomen: "I think I would rather find rocks in a mine rather than any water. There is enough water outside all ready."

A little time and a lot of laughter later, the veterans had finished their hazing and began the next important item on their newbie list, a nickname. Fortunately for them it was fairly easy since Lomen told them about how he wanted to create equipment and items as a hunter, along with his background in blacksmithing. With this in mind the miners started referring to him as 'Forge' and since it seemed to not have been taken already, Lomen gladly accepted the title.

Lomen: "Don't think this will get you a discount if I make you anything."

Veteran: "Oh don't be like that, not even if we gave you some materials?"

Lomen: "Well maybe I could consider it if you showed me a few good spots in this dark place."

A bit of laughter ensued and the veterans took a more serious role in teaching some of the warning signs to Lomen and a few safe mining tunnels that were rumored to be good spots that dropped materials in large quantities. With a few tasteless jokes and a small snack, the veteran miners went their own ways into the deeper parts of the mines. Their last piece of advice was to go at your own pace, words Lomen decided he would take to heart. Mining in these tunnels seemed like only something to do with a healthy body and mind in case a cave in or other accident occurred. At best mining until passing out would likely get respect of other miners as they looted your warm body of all valuable materials and items. At worst fainting in these tunnels would lead to death by either a scrupulous rival or hazard that suddenly occurs.

With a few deep breaths Lomen turned to his focus to the stone walls in front of him, chipping away at the rocks in hopes of a payload. Although most of the people he encountered while wandering from safe mining spot to spot were newer miners, that didn't stop him from introducing himself as 'Forge and picking their brains for a few tips on the trade. All information is valuable Lomen thought and observed how people mined, attempting a few different methods for himself. The sounds of metal chipping away at stone was fairly relaxing since it reminded him of working at a forge, just a lot duller on the sound and not as many sparks flying into your face.

Although the mining itself was peaceful, danger was present in the form of expanding tunnels. This was accompanied by occasional explosions that made Lomen jump a bit and focus in the direction of the explosions, much to the enjoyment of some miners who claimed he was just being a city slicker or too spooked from a small breeze passing by. Paying them no mind, he went back to chipping away at the walls until another explosion rung out, this one closer and strong enough to make the walls tremble a bit. Most miners laughed as Lomen brought up his guard, but some of the older miners packed up their kits and headed out of the tunnel vein. Deciding to follow the older miners, some newer miners gathered their kits and paced after these experienced miners. Being in the group of people who left to one of the other mining veins, Lomen discovered that after a few blasts one blast will ring out in the walls stronger and that is a sign to leave that mining vein until new supports are installed. With supports being installed fairly regularly, it meant only temporarily avoiding the vein until the area became stable again. Where as less people meant more space to excavate materials, it was only at an exponential risk to your life since the tunnel could collapse at any moment without proper support.

With proper safety enlightenment, Lomen took it upon himself to become more familiar with the blasting sounds and how the walls of tunnels reacted to them, trying to help himself determine when veins became too unstable to safely work in. This caused him to move around a few veins before finding a mining vein relatively distant from the explosions. At first doubts started to rise up about whether this was just him being too paranoid and if fears only mounted because he was a coward. With thoughts pestering him, a new sound resounded through the tunnels along with screams of agony. The walls shook and the mine seemed that it was alive and angered by the presence of humans in it's home. It was the first time Lomen had experienced the sounds of a cave in and made his way towards the source of the sound. Finding the collapsed vein wasn't difficult since all he had to do was follow the rush of veteran miners and source of cries for help. A makeshift blockade was formed a distance around the collapsed area, only letting veterans past to deal with excavating the collapsed rubble, some of which sat upon freshly dead bodies, crushed by the weight of the debris. Realizing he was just being a witness to something better left to the professionals, Lomen retreated to his safer vein, all earlier doubts about his choice to move around the veins gone.

The rest of the mining excursion went without any more major collapses but the air was still fairly heavy afterwards. All the miners were a bit more cautious for the remainder of their time in the mines and much more reactive to any explosions. Some time later Lomen decided it would be a good time to head out and rest. With the hazing, learning from people around him, and the major cave in, he decided it would be best to call the excursion off while he still had some energy left and to rest before continuing. With this in mind, Lomen headed up to the entrance of the mine and checked out with the foreman, having a little small talk and finding out that even though the tunnel had collapsed, it was with relatively few deaths compared to most major collapses. Lomen sighed as he wondered if he might be buried if he didn't heed the veterans actions and words. After saying goodbye for the moment, he scaled back up the cliff road, noting the times when air was fresh to deeply breath in and enjoyed still being alive. The air and being alive lifted his mood as he made his way to a place to rest and regain some strength, mulling over all the information he had gained and experienced in his head as he quickly traveled.
