The mountains were utterly beautiful. And the break away from Destiny City had been such a welcome one…and the fact that he got to spend it with Benji…just made everything perfect. The boy had been living with him for almost a month now, and things were going well, but this week had been…utter bliss. Perhaps due to the fact that they had nothing to distract them from one another.
There was no war out here in the mountains…and no job to worry about…and no school to stress out over.
Just quality time between…partners.
And of course, the hot tub didn’t hurt anything either.
It felt as though this trip was brining the two of them closer…of course they still weren’t dating…but it was close enough. Almost close enough to forget about the technicality of what the name was.
They were partners…and Caleb knew he loved Benji…and that was what mattered for the moment.
Quietly, Caleb folded his arms over the railing on the porch and looked out onto the mountains—the view utterly took his breath away, though he wished Benji would come out soon…they had one last day to plan…though…honestly if he had his way, he wouldn’t leave this spot.
Maybe he would suggest Switzerland for their big trip in the winter…the Alps would be breathtaking too…even more so than these.

For once, for the first goddamn time, Benji could say he woke up without a single care in the world. There was something entirely different about waking up in a bed, the lingering warmth of your.... Partner beside you. It was so quiet up here surrounded by the woods and the beautiful mountains and lakes nearby. Any threat that could have hurt them just didn't seem to exist around their little private cabin.
With that isolation, they grew close, spoke of dreams and desires and to his surprise so many overlapped. Every laugh and kiss they shared drew them together like magnets, and even now, while Benji still lounged half asleep in their shared bed, he wished for Caleb to be back there with him. Rather than lie around wishing for his return, he decided it was time to get up anyway.
After a brief search of the kitchen and the living room, he spotted the taller boy out on the porch and went straight towards him, tapping the glass.
"Good morning..." A yawn interrupted the soft greeting but didn't keep him from coming closer, putting his arms around Caleb's waist. Despite it being summer, morning in the mountains could be quite chilly so Benji was content with pressing his cheek against Caleb's back. "You weren't in bed... I missed you... How are you feeling this morning..?"

Caleb had brightened from the moment he heard the soft tapping of the glass, a grin spreading across his face before he even felt the hands slip around his waist. “Hey there, Pookie. I was thinking about waking you up earlier, but you looked so peaceful, I couldn’t bring myself to do it…and besides. The mountains were calling me so I had to just…go and see them.”
The boy felt like a security blanket which was tucked around him, he was so utterly comforted by the warmth of Benji’s cheek against him.
“I’m…a little bummed that this is our last day here…I…honestly? I feel as though I could live here forever, to tell you the truth. And I was thinking…for our trip this winter—how about Switzerland? We could stay in a nice little chateau and…see the Alps? Or a Chalet? Whatever it’s called.” He chuckled, reaching his arms down so his hands rested atop Benji’s, thumbs running over the boy’s soft, pale skin.
“You slept well, didn’t you? I…I have to admit that I really love waking up beside you. It gives me an extra spring in my step for the day and…”
He sighed, shrugging. “And yeah.”
And I love you. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. And I am so thankful that we met.
“…This place is just so beautiful. We’ll have to come back. Maybe for a weekend in the fall…when the leaves are turning…”

"Hearing Nature talk to you? I dunno, sounds kinda weird to me. Maybe you're meant to be a genuine mountain man. Time to wear plaid Flannel, grow a beard, and make pancakes every morning... Mmm... That does sound good." Pancakes and snuggling some more... Maybe a hike later... A bit of swimming and one last campfire before they had to return to the city... Ah, he couldn't help it, he wanted to stay! He didn't want to leave this beautiful place and go back to that ******** city!
"Does it have to be...? If you want to stay longer, I'm all for it. It feels so damned good not to worry about home... And it's not like the pizza joint even needs me; their kids are out of school so hours are s**t anyway. Let's stay for just a few more days.." How he was going to pay for it, ******** if he knew, but if they could just stay like this, he'd worry about that later. The feeling of Caleb's hands on top of his only made him want to stay more... It wasn't fair... Why did they have to lose this? "If the Alps are anything like this, then I'm all for it. Snow is pretty romantic in in itself.... And more excuses to be together in front of the fire."
All sorts of sappy things were coming to mind, causing Benji's face to heat up more and more. What was even the point of denying it anymore? He knew how Caleb felt about him... Every time their eyes met, and that cheeky smile was directed at him, he could tell. And ********, no one had ever made him feel so happy to be in the same room as them! It wasn't the same as Peter or Ptolemaeus... He felt the love Caleb had for him, and Caleb didn't bother to deny it, tell him he was wrong to feel that way, or just... It was mutual.
It was only fair that he say it out loud.
"I did sleep well... You being there just makes it better... I mean, I don't really get to wake up with a smile on my face and a smile looking right back at me.. And, you know, I'm really glad that that we can do this. That I actually feel happy here with you so... I was wondering... Ugh, this sucks... Gimme a sec." Benji pulled himself away from Caleb but didn't move far. Instead of staying behind him, he moved to worm himself in front of Caleb, slightly blocking out the view of the mountains, and taking his hands into his own. He was nervous, and he ******** hated that feeling! It wasn't as if Caleb was going to push him away and tell him no, or scold him for taking so long! He wasn't like that...
"... I want to say 'I love you'... So... Yeah... I love you Caleb... Thank you for bringing me here... I probably should have waited til after breakfast but... If you still want, I uh... I'm ready to be your 'boyfriend' now... Just please, don't call me that to my face! I don't really like the word, I'm still your partner! But... Your partner who's in love with you. Got it?" The words were shot out like rapid fire, and there was no way Benji could look straight at Caleb, eyes focused hard on the ground between them instead. That fiery red blush wasn't just no his face, but on the tip of his ears and down his neck now, even his palms were getting sweaty, but he wasn't going to let Caleb go.
"Don't make a big deal out of it! N-not out side, if you're gonna do that, lets go back in..."

Caleb seemed a little surprised, though smiled. “I mean. I’m fine with staying. Call your job and let them know that you’ll be another few days away…and I’ll handle the cabin things.”
Honestly…he might just talk to his parents about buying one up here…It would be so nice to have a place to go…and…and maybe they would go for the idea if he spun it right. If anything, it would also mean they would have a wonderful romantic getaway spot too…which sounded ideal for everyone.
He pulled himself out of his thoughts when Benji pulled away, giving a little frown and almost making a noise of protest, at least until the white haired boy pushed himself in between Caleb and the railing and took his hands. He was about to say something when the confession was all blurted out at once, and then Caleb had the absolute pleasure of watching Benji literally change colors as his pale skin turned a bright red…oh god he was cute.
Too cute.
Pursing his lips and trying very hard not to laugh, Caleb nodded, then leaned forward and kissed Benji on the forehead. “I won’t make a big deal about it, Pookie. You’re my partner, and you know that I’m head over heels in love with you too, though, if you didn’t I think I’d be very upset to hear it, but…it’s nice to hear that from you too. It makes me feel quite warm inside.”
Quietly, he tilted Benji’s face up, his eyes searching the male’s honey colored eye for a moment. “You’re the best partner anyone could ever ask for.”

Benji just couldn't manage to keep that gaze going for long, eye refusing to look directly at Caleb. He couldn't help it, not with the sound of his heart beat just echoing inside of his ears. That kiss though... He swore his legs would give out had that railing not been behind him.
Part of him felt like he shouldn't be doing any of this. Life was too complicated to actually admit he was in love, but it was way too late. The words were out there, and Caleb was in here in his arms, saying how much he loved him and... Well s**t, he didn't care anymore, he was going to love with every single cell he had in his body! Nothing was going to stop him.
"You're going to spoil me with all these compliments... And you're not half bad yourself... I'll say it again, I love you... So if there's anything you want from me, need from me, let me know, okay? I'm not the easiest person to get along with, but thanks for not giving up on me..." The fingers on his chin was all the encouragement he needed to close the distance between them and fully embrace the taller boy, arms looping around his neck to bring him just a bit closer. "I swear I'll do my best to be a good boyfriend..."

Caleb felt as though his chest would just burst with the amount of emotions he was feeling. And when Benji repeated that he loved him…well. He was quite sure he could take a quick trip around the moon on nothing more than the wings of love…but he had to stay cool. Had to act like this was normal. Like he had been expecting it…if he made a fuss…he was sure the other boy would clam up.
“I love you more than I have words to say, Benji. Thank you.” He grinned in spite of himself, and for a moment, the excitement from what was being said really bubbled over into his expression.
“I’ll do the same. I’ll be the best boyfriend—partner, that you’ve ever had. That you will ever had…I…you’ve been with me through some of the darkest points in my life, and I know I’m a spoiled guy. I know my dark times are literally nothing but…you’ve stood by me through them, and I can’t begin to tell you what that means to me.”
He dipped his head and captured Benji’s lips, giving a long, slow kiss. “…You might just be…my everything. If that doesn’t sound too stupid. I know you don’t like stupid…and I’m trying.”

"Geesh, Caleb..." If Caleb thought he was going to burst, Benji thought he was going to melt. Every inch of his skin was hot now as he allowed the taller boy to just gush and gush and gush. While he knew saying anything even remotely close to 'I love you' to him would cause at least something like this to happen, Benji didn't think it was going to be this awfully gushy.
He wasn't sure how to respond to the whole 'problems' thing... Maybe one day soon he'd confess to Caleb just how awful he had been in the past.. The strangers, the knights, the murders... Alot of it he suffered in silence through, never feeling close enough to tell anyone about those horrible things he had seen and done.. But with Caleb, it felt like even if he split out all of his guts, the boy would understand.
Not now though, for now he couldn't even gather enough words to say anything before Caleb pulled him in for another kiss, and when it broke, he was just.. Breathless...
"I... I uh..." He couldn't help it, he stepped back a few paces, though made sure to lace one of his free hands with his newly dubbed boyfriend's. "Errr... We can't just spend all day on the balcony... L-let's get dressed... Get some breakfast or something.. Partner.."

Caleb nodded, grinning softly and lacing his fingers with Benji’s. He knew he had spoken too much, but he didn’t care. He was happy…and that wasn’t going to change any time soon. They would stay out here a few extra days. They would talk…they would just…keep finding deeper happiness with one another.
“Sounds perfect. I’ll make pancakes…or French toast. Or…heck. I’ll make whatever you’re in the mood for, Benji. Your wish is my command.”
He couldn’t stop himself from pressing his lips to the top of the other boy’s head again, savoring the soft feeling of his hair. It was all so perfect…everything was all so perfect.
Now…if it could only stay that way, there would be no issues what so ever.
