i'm level 10 in alchemy
id say my favorite part is when i can get an item for cheaper than in the MP if i craft it myself, the price of ingredients included

I'm level 10.
Favorite thing about alchemy is the fact I get to collect things which gives me a reason to hoard.

I've just got to level 4 (5min ago). As I'm working towards getting the Crown of Thrice (CoT) item, I had to craft:
Ectoplasm, Amphithere's Hypnotic Eye & Banshee's Silver Comb.
However, if I wasn't going for the CoT I would have solely used Fausto's Bottle. As it was I crafted 7 of these alchemized items. They are probably the easiest ones of the Level 3 Formulas. They're also a High level of Success.
1 x Fausto's Bottle (any gen) - I got mine levelling up kin in Lake Kindred
1 x Stardust (Garnet Cache)

Now at level 5. Had to craft Ahuizotl's Tail-hand, Bahamut's Fire & Red Mercury (x2) for the Crown of Trice item. But after that it was down to the stores to purchase a few items for the remaining Level 4 Formulas.
Crafted:
Crown of the Faceless Ruler (luckily I only needed a couple) (x1)
Regalia (got rid of a few Regalia items - vests are probably the more difficult one to get) (x1)
Deluxe Bone Mask (x4)
Problem with these is that the Faceless Ruler item needed a level 5 Plague Virus and the Bone Masks needed a level 6 Ogre Bone. I had to get a friend to craft these for me.

Level 10.
My favorite part of alchemy is just having the option of being able to craft something as opposed to having to buy it from the MP. It can be convenient and sometimes cheaper.
Some hints: Go in with a game plan and a check list. This is especially important if you're goal is to craft wings or just level up.

Just got to level 10 & crafted the Crown of Thrice item. Had to use component only formulas to get thought the last couple of levels.

I'm a level ten alchemist. Additionally, I recently finished the winged achievements which require you to craft all six sets of backwings.
I was insane. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you just really want the achievements. It's easier and cheaper these days to buy the non alchemized versions of the same wings that the formulas craft if you want them.
My favorite things about alchemy are being able to craft items that I like without spending an arm and leg on the marketplace. I also like being able to give back to other alchemists considering I know how expensive alchemy components can get when they're hard to come by.
