When Alrik Rey was forced to wait for something, he usually tinkered. It didn't matter with what - computers, phones, random electronic devices - and when he couldn't tinker or video game, he did the only thing he knew to do: he paced.
It drove his mother absolutely crazy to the point where she'd shove her only son out the front door if he didn't stop walking back and forth from kitchen to living room and back to the kitchen again. It was a lifelong habit he'd developed over his almost two decades of existence and the habit had crossed over for his alter ego's existence as well.... which was how Captain Epidote found himself pacing back and forth atop the skyscraper his sister had told him to meet her at from their communication devices.
He'd been having a good night. An okay night, at least. But when he'd gotten the text from his sister to meet up asap, nerves started acting up. Pen didn't normally demand immediate attention, so something was clearly up.
And it was driving Epidote crazy not knowing what it was about.

Penelope was acutely aware of the nervous ticks her brother would display, it came with the territory of living with him for pretty much their entire lives despite the few years between them. She knew that he got nervous or even anxious when it came to thinking he was in trouble or when he didn't have enough information to be prepared, even if he was never really prepared regardless of what he knew.
So, when she messaged him out of the blue she had an idea of how he was going to react.
And that was how she found him when she arrived on scene and she shook her head, fond smile creeping across her lips when she found herself in the company of the only person she was ever real with.
"Relax," she ordered, boots carrying her forward before her hand was placed on his shoulder. "I have a meeting with one of the General-Sovereigns in about twenty minutes. I want you to come with."

The strong aura appearing on the scene was both a relief and a dread at the same time. Surely it meant Stella had arrived... but with her arrival, what formidable news had she brought with her?
His pacing paused as the grim line across his face met with her smile. The fact she was smiling put him at some ease - maybe he wasn't in trouble, after all. Maybe there wasn't even trouble in the first place??
Her next words, however, spiked his anxiety at an alarming rate.
"With a General-Sovereign?"
He could feel his heart pounding in his chest.
"What do you have to do with one of them???"

She looked utterly unimpressed when he started to panic.
"Epi," she scolded, voice sharp with warning. "Relax, you'll be with me." And there was nothing they weren't capable of doing if they were together. It was the exact reason she had insisted that if Alkaid wanted her, she would take her brother too. They were a team.
"It's a simple review, nothing to get your panties in a twist over," she explained even if there was some irritation preventive in her voice. Gloves were adjusted on her hands and blue eyes looked at her brother expectantly.
"Besides, it's good to have an established, positive working relationship with your superiors. It allows for more freedom but also assistance in the necessary areas when push comes to shove." Her hand waved about in the air like she was explaining something so basic.
Her hand extended for her brother's. "Ready?"

He offered her a scowl at her panties comment, though the mention of it being nothing more than a review was... well, it was definitely more relaxing to know. No one was in trouble, no one was going to lose their head, it was just a simple report card, Negaverse style, and if anyone on Earth could ace a report card, it was gonna be his sister.
After all, she was the one who'd kept them both on top of their quotas. She was the brains, he was the... whatever else she needed done, in her schemes that involved him. It was a bond that had worked long before their induction to the Negaverse and Epi knew it was a bond that would never be broken, until....
.... well, that wouldn't happen, so never. It would never be broken.
He playfully rolled his eyes as she went on about working relationships and getting all prim and proper and smart on him. Long fingers moved out to take hold of smaller ones as he enclosed his hand with his, sidling next to his partner in crime.
"Ready when you are, player one."
And with that, the two dissolved into the darkness of the night.

Things had gone exactly as Stellerite had expected, though she was certain that her brother didn't feel the same way considering he had no expectations about their review. She kept their affairs almost immaculate whenever she filed progress reports or turned in quotas.
While she hadn't been sure that they'd receive a promotion in exchange for her their work, she had high hopes for such a thing and was endlessly delighted that by the end of the meeting, she had gotten exactly what she wanted. Those were the types of things that kept Stellerite happy, unyielding attention and being recognized for how great she was.
Epi was her tag-a-long that got to share in her glory because he did help.
So, when they exited the office, she was practically preening like a male peacock trying to impress someone in their shiny, general glory.
 
Her hand was hooked through her brother's arm and her pink painted lips were pressed together with the ends curled up in a pleased smile that showed no teeth.
"And here you were, being a worry wart. You should really trust me more, when have I ever let you down player two?"

If he hadn't been so enamored with his new upgrades, he might have made another face at his sibling for her comment. Instead, his gauntlet was busy being turned over and examined, the sleek silver shining under the haunting glow of the Negaverse castle's lighting. It wasn't as big as he was hoping it could get but it wasn't so much the size as how he used it - right?
And he'd gotten a cape - a cape. Now he was a true badass. From level one to one hundred and ten - Destiny City and its inhabitants had better watch out because the new and improved Epidote was about to unleash himself upon the masses.
"I don't have anything to worry about, not when you've got everything under control, General.."
He turned to offer a s**t-eating grin to his older sibling, squeezing the arm that was still linked with his.
"Now, what do you say we go and flex these new powers of ours, hm?"

Were she less dignified, Stellerite would have rolled her eyes at him but they were still in public, where any of their fellow officers (or worse one of the General Sovereigns) could see them. Instead, she shook her head at him.
"Don't be cocky, it's unattractive." Not that the bit of advice would matter much, her brother already had a girlfriend who seemed to be into his dorkish ways. How he'd managed it, she was baffled but it was what it was.
"Come on, I'm sure there's still plenty I can school you in," she teased, a grin on her lips when she began striding forward, thoughts clear and focused before she teleported them both back up to the surface.
Look out Destiny City, she thought, here we come.
