Kobe sat at one of the benches outside, his homework was spread all over the table. He had to do well on this test or he would fail his class. It was so stressful to balance life and school all in one but he supposed that is what adults did everyday...right? With a sigh, he flipped through his textbook then his notes. Why did he have to take such awful notes! He growled, slamming his textbook closed and throwing it far from him. Screw this. He was NEVER going to figure out how to solve these dumb math problem! He should just drop out and become a janitor or something… His eyes welled with frustration. His pack didn’t have these issues! What was wrong with him!

Fletcher was on his way to the portals to go home when a textbook hit him. He looked down at the book with confusion. He crouched down and picked it up, inspecting it. Math? He looked around to see a grimm upset about something. He assumed the book was his since he seemed to have notes all over his table. He walked over to him, holding out the book. “Is… this yours?” He asked softly. “It sorta hit me.” He explained, just in case the other thinks he stole it or something. He glanced at the notes, noting what he was working on. He sure seemed upset, he wondered why.

Kobe jumped, startled by the other talking to him. He hadn’t even heard him over his own thoughts which was surprising because his hearing was amazing. He quickly wiped his eyes and looked to him, trying to figure out what he was saying. He looked down at his textbook then back at Fletcher. He had hit him? Kobe jumped up, placing his hands on the book. “I am so so so sorry! I didn’t mean to hit anyone! I was just so frustrated!” He explained, feeling awful he had hit someone… He really was awful, wasn’t he… No wonder no one liked him. He gently took back the book and sat down with his shoulders slumped. Why couldn’t he do anything right. “I’m sorry… I will be more careful.” He repeated, looking down… ready to cry again.

Fletcher saw as the other seemed to panic and apologize. Something was clearly bothering the other, he could see it in his eyes. When he saw Kobe sit down, he moved to sit next to him. “It’s really okay. I understand… I get frustrated with science… However, I am pretty good at math.” He told him, smiling softly. “Would you mind if I took a look?” He asked as he looked to the other, patting his back some as he apologized again. “I already said it was alright. I know you didn’t mean to throw it at anyone.” He reminded, smiling to him again to show he really meant it.

Kobe frowned as the other sat next to him then again when he touched him. Why was he so touchy! Brushing it off, the grimm looked at him. “... Science is easier than this stuff, in my opinion.” He explained, “But if you want to take a crack at it… be my guest.” He told him, a little wounded in his pride when the other said he was good at math. He hated math and he didn’t understand what this particular kind of math would be used for on a day by day basis! Basic math, that was obvious but this math? No way! Kobe honestly felt like this math lesson was a waste of time but he had to do it to pass finals.

Fletcher saw the other react oddly when he had touched him so he retracted his hand. He didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes or cross boundaries. When Kobe gave him the okay to look over the math, he did just that. He looked at the other’s notes and the practice sheet he had to fill out to help him study. He then moved to pull his notebook out of his own bag and flipped through it. Kobe’s notes were… just awful. He had missing steps and other information and his notebook was mostly filled with doodles. Fletcher smiled again, “Here, you can use my notes. I am done with them.” He offered, “I’m Fletcher, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.” He introduced himself then pointing at the problem that Kobe was stuck on. “Instead of trying it that way… try it… “ He moved to write on the paper with the other’s pencil, showing him what steps he’d take. “..This way.”

Kobe watched as the other looked over his notes and papers, feeling a bit judged when the other pulled out his own notebook and looked as if he was comparing notes. However, he was surprised when Fletcher offered his notes to him. He leaned in so he could look at the other’s notes, seeing the beautiful handwriting and wonderfully filled out notes. Wow, having these would really help him study. “Okay, if you are sure?” He asked, wanting to make sure he was absolutely certain that he didn’t need them. He then watched as Fletcher walked him through his current elusive problem. “Oh… That does make… so much more sense… Thank you.” He actually smiled softly. “I guess, I have been doing the hard way then, huh?” He chuckled softly. “Nice to meet you, Fletcher… I am Kobe.” He reciprocated the introduction.

Fletcher smiled when he saw some of Kobe’s stress fade, “Of course, I took that final already so it’s all yours.” He reassured, moving to get up. “You certainly were doing it the hard way but I think you will get it now.” He chuckled back, “You are very welcome, Kobe. It was nice meeting you as well. Good luck on your tests.” He told him, picking up his backpack. He wondered if he had passed his science class, maybe he should have been more worried like Kobe was. He smiled to himself, certain it was C material but not worrying about it since… it was technically still a pass.

Kobe looked at him as he got ready to leave. “No! Wait!” He called out to him, reaching out and grabbing his hand as he looked up to him. “Please stay and help me! I still have so many questions!” He told him, giving him the best pleading puppy eyes he possible could conjure at that moment. He then smiled and chuckled, “I’ll buy you lunch tomorrow if you do!” He tried to coax him, scooting to make more room for fletcher. “I really need to pass this class. I want to major in medicine and I can’t do that if I fail math.” He explained to him, “Please help me? You can do your homework next to me and I will bother you when I have a question… is that okay?” He asked him, hopeful that the other would decide to stay in case he needed more help.

Fletcher was already in his own mind, starting to walk off when Kobe grabbed his hand and called out to him. He stopped and looked back at him, listening to his request for him to stay and help him. He looked at his watch, biting his lip. Surely Echo would be waiting for him at home… But Kobe really did seem to need his help. Hearing that he wanted to go into the medicine field and that he was worried that failing his math class would ruin his dream, Fletcher pulled out his phone and texted his mom that he would be home later. He also let her know that he was assisting a friend with their homework, just to make sure she knew exactly where he was and what he was doing out of courtesy. He then moved to sit back down. “Alright, I will do my homework and if you need help, let me know.” He told Kobe with a smile. Seeing the other’s gratitude from him deciding to stay made his day.
