Three days. Three days. Seventy-two hours had passed since Uvarovite had been topside. Tourmaline was understanding when it came to most things, allotting extra patience for Uvarovite and his work in the laboratory, but three days had passed since she'd last seen him as anything other than Captain Uvarovite.
Tourmaline had assigned the members of their brood to check in on her mad scientist partner from time to time. Some were asked to assist with whatever task he required help with-- energy orbs were delivered, experiments were conducted, meals were delivered on a rotating schedule. She had hoped that his breakthrough would come, and now she was starting to doubt.
At the start of the third day Tourmaline had gone to the lab, glaring at the 'Do Not Disturb' sign posted on the door. Traces of petulant child returning, Tourmaline was sorely tempted to demand admittance. She could teleport herself inside, easily, but if she made a mistake... If she caused Uvarovite to lose hours, or days, of experiments and testing he would never forgive her.
Frustrated, she returned to her office in an attempt to distract herself sifting through personnel files and reports. Try as she may, she was unable to shake the feeling of wrongness. Something was wrong. Something wasn't right. Something...
Tourmaline felt a surge of dark energy from the direction of the lab, her heart leaping into her throat before dropping down into the pit of her stomach. Her tablet clattered from her hands, dropping to her desk the second she was on her feet. She scrambled down the hall, the feeling growing, crawling over her skin and exploding into dread as she began to pound on the laboratory door.
"Uv-- Uvarovite!" Her call was met by Pet's roar, panic rising in her. She pounded harder, panic turning into rage that he would be so careless, that he would put himself at risk. Eyes bright and filled with a dozen swirling emotions she drew in what strength she had, teleporting directly into the lab, afraid of what she might find inside.
