She should probably get a job. That was something Knot contemplated as she stared out over the ocean. Granted, she'd been doing fine these past few months without one. Under the mantle of Stillwaterite, mugging would be attackers was somewhat lucrative. She didn't want for much. She had a public library card, so she could read as much as she wanted, and watched movies, too! She had a bus card (it was how she got to the beach today), but mugging covered that...food was shop lifted when not provided, and she had clothes, also shop lifted. But she figured having a job would occupy her time and give her some more spending money. She wondered what she did before, to fill the time. It was a brief and idle thought. Maybe just a part time one. She didn't want to work too much and not have days like this. Spontaneous beach visits. She smiled to herself as she adjusted the large sun hat on her head. She then wiggled her toes in the sand, and enjoyed the feeling of the water rolling in up to her knees. Knot's attention was briefly pulled by someone in her peripheral vision, and she turned her head to spot a young man with a surf board. Oh, neat! "Going to catch some waves, today?" She called out in greeting, waving a hand as she did so.

He wasn't going to surf. The surfboard was just for...security reasons. Like a security blanket, his inner voice snarked. Oh ******** off, he snarked back.
Even with his own inner conflict ongoing, it felt amazing to be back on the beach. Brendan had all but charged into the water like a child, laughing at nothing in particular as the spray clashed against him and hit his eyes. The stinging couldn't mitigate his joy, however, and he grinned wide enough that it hurt. It was only natural that he had gone through physical therapy and been discharged from the hospital in time for summer: Brendan had seawater instead of blood, frankly.
He was sitting on his surfboard just a little past the shallows, bobbing in the forming waves and legs dangling in the current, when he heard someone call out to him. Looking over his shoulder, Brendan smiled and replied, "Me? Nah, just catching up with the missus first."

She smiled at the reply, it was cheeky and she appreciated the respect for something as vast as the ocean. Knot found herself drifting closer, glancing back at her footprints in the sand before the water rushed in to cover and dissolve them. Once she was closer in a comfortable conversing distance, she continued. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything then~ I'd hate for her to be cross with you."

"Interrupting? Nah." Brendan turned slightly so that he could see the woman better, flashing a grin. "She's been busy is all. Got places to see, other people to meet. We're just Skyping. Think she's miffed she hasn't seen me for a bit, but I'm making up for it."
He paused and turned towards the waves suddenly. "Yeah? ...Oh s**t, don't let me hold you up, girl. I'll catch you in a few!" Making a kissy sound, Brendan feigned closing a laptop and faced his new conversational partner once more. "I'm all yours~"

Knot couldn't help but laugh at the exchange. This one had some fun and spunk, and she liked it. "She hasn't seen you for a bit, hm? What's been keeping you?" She looked to the surfboard he was sitting on again, and kind of wished he would go surfing so that she could see it in person. It looked really cool. Maybe she should try sometime! Get a surfboard, and get Morgan out here---even Pyro! Yeah, that seemed like a really fun idea. "How long have you been surfing for?"

"Stuff," he replied airily. "I've surfing, s**t, I dunno...For as long as I could swim, I guess. Sea salt blood and all."
He idly kicked under the water, watching a clump of seaweed pass by. The water was so clear, he loved it. "You looking to learn?" Brendan asked. "I'm a s**t teacher, just warning you."

Under the wide brim of her hat, Knot's expression lit up. "I actually wasn't looking--- until now." The woman waded deeper into the water, to get closer, just up to her thighs. "Since you're offering, and it's very kind, and I'll definitely take you up on the offer." She smiled. "Oh, I'm sure you'll be great. I know nothing about it, so you're the expert here." After all, life needed to be filled with fun experiences, and she was all about trying new things out. "I'm Knot, by the way." She paused for a moment, before tacking on, "K-N-O-T." Her lips pulled into a small grin after she spelled out her name. "It trips people up sometimes." medigel I JUST CAME BACK FROM THE CARIBBEAN, MEDI! I'm totally feeling this ocean vibe right now

"You're not what?" Brendan joked. "Kidding, kidding! I'm Brendan. Or in your case, Surf Sensei."
He wondered if they could go and rent a boogie board, then decided he was too lazy to get out of the water. He pushed his longboard to Knot instead. "So, how's your balance?" Brendan asked. "Don't stand on it or anything. Just, like, lay on top. I wanna see how you paddle. Oh!"
He had almost forgotten the important part and pulled the leash from the water to hand to her. "Get that around one of your ankles too."

" Not new to that joke." She replied with a grin. "It's a pleasure, Brendan." The woman reached out to take a hold of the longboard as it sailed her way. "Fairly good---on land." She answered. "We're about to see on this, hm?" One hand held onto the material while the other skimmed across the top of the board. She tried to remember if she had ever done this before, but as with most things, she couldn't call anything to mind. Knot was about to slide on, when he called her attention to something else. She stared at the leash for a moment, and then looked at him. " Oh. Brendan. On the first date? That's so forward." She held the expression of seriousness for all of three seconds before she grinned and took it. "You got it." She leaned on the board, and lifted a leg to slip the leash around an ankle. Once that was secured, she just went for it, and scooted onto the board on her stomach. Only, she didn't find the center of balance, and just as quickly the board tipped to one side and it flipped over and she under it. It flipped right back over and Knot surfaced, her hat resting on her bat due to the cord it was on, and she pushed her hair out of her eyes. "See?" She beamed. "Good on land!" She scooted back onto the board again, and this time had success in finding the center of gravity.

He barked a laugh at the innuendo and sent a splash Knot's way in response. "Guess I should be making you do this on land first. Oh well!"
Brendan watched as she managed to flip over and started to move forward to help her back up, but she was upright before he took more than two steps. "Okay, so once you got your balance," he told her, "you gotta work on your paddling form. It's harder than it looks, and that's before you throw in a giant wave tryna swallow you whole."
Motioning for her to wait, he swam out about ten yards opposite her, though still parallel to the beach, and then called out, "Let's see you come over here! Fast as you can without falling off!"

"No, this is fine." Knot replied. " Sink or swim, right?" She watched him swim away, and then called after him, acting like she was surprised. "What? You mean it takes hard work and dedication to actually surf?" She grinned, and then shifted her arms off of the board and into the water. This part would be somewhat tricky for her, she imagined, but oh well. You always learned best from your mistakes! She paddled, and she found that it was too easy for her body to start tipping one way versus another, and felt the board teeter under her. She, unfortunately, didn't have a perfect run, and ended up flipping the board once on her way to the man, but it was just part of the process. Knot stopped paddling as she drew closer, and let the board drift over to him. "Is this the part where you tell me to paddle laps now?" She asked, amused.

"Surprising, I know."
He took his board back, a little surprised to see her give in. But, no biggie! "I'm still working back up to the wave myself," Brendan told her. "When I'm ready, you oughta come see me catch some waves. Meantime, how's about we chill?"

Knot slid off the board and back into the water, pausing to undo the leash before she placed it on top of the board. She smoothed back her wet hair, and then pulled her sun hat back into her head. Her hands then came to rest on the board, and she cocked her head at the man. "Working back up?" She echoed. "Did you fall off the board for a long while, then?" She smiled, and nodded her head. "I'd love to see when you get back into action, and sure, sounds good!" medigel I'm fine with short as long as you met your word count! : )
