Supposedly he had to make an appointment to see V'mel, and honestly it made sense. The man, to his memories, had always been ridiculously busy running the Weyrling side of things, being responsible, and just....not stopping for anything in general. Of course the brownrider didn't begrudge V'mel for even a second for doing what needed to be done above all else; if anything he admired his work ethic and drive to succeed. His mother had certainly drilled into F'ell's head that the current Weyrlingmaster of High Reaches was an exceptionally good man and she would brook no ill word about him.

It was also because of his mother that F'ell made the appointment in the first place. She'd mentioned to her son that perhaps it was time to properly introduce himself (and his dragon) and thank the man for giving him life, as well as the money that had initially been used to send him off to Harper Hall. While the teen wasn't so sure he had to be grateful for being alive he was happy with the whole craft thing. Painting had lead to turns of general joy (and money) and then eventually to Teth, so maybe thanking this V'mel was the right thing to do. That and he wanted to talk about paying him back for his investment, even if it wasn't meant to be that way.

F'ell didn't do charity or obligations, and as he sat outside the office of the man who was actually his father, he wondered if this was such a good idea. Teth was nearby, currently happily talking to a rock or something about life in Western, and could act as his voice if needed but. Whatever, it didn't matter. His appoint time was coming up and all he could do was wait.

V'mel rose well before dawn, and went to bed only when the last of the candles were guttering. Even his rest days were filled with work of some kind, and the man rarely, so very rarely, was able to take personal time for himself. Not that he had any desire to. His life for the Weyr, that'd been his pledge from the day the searchdragon had pulled him up out of the hell of Nabol's mines. But just because he worked non-stop was why the unknown name stood out to him that day, jotted down in one of his 'office hours' that were usually taken up by (the smartest, in his opinion) weyrlings.

"F'ell of brown Teth." The name meant...nothing to him. A quick mental tally didn't place him as one of High Reaches' own, but riders were still, even turns later, turning up nearly weekly to beg training, sanctuary, to join the fight against thread. The idea that it might be someone in need of remedial training in order to properly assimilate was dismissed—the recruiting queen would have notified him, or the weyrleader. Who then, and why? He waits for you just outside, V'mel. His stone-gray eyes flicked across to the speckled brown coiled serpent-like upon their ledge. The brown was entranced at present, staring down into the bowl to watch their newest...acquisitions...frolic.

Whoever it was, their promptness was appreciated. At a mental cue, the same brown reached out, gently tapping at the mind of the man who waited outside. Enter, F'ell of Brown Teth. V'mel will hear you now.

F'ell visibly flinched as a new voice flooded his thoughts, and it took a little bit of self-control to not raise his had to the side of his head. He'd only been used to Teth's voice, the tone so loud and happy that anything other than his own dragon was....unsettling. He assumed that all people who Teth "spoke" to must have felt this way and maybe he should feel bad for them.

He didn't but maybe someone else would.

Still, hearing the voice brought up a wonderful thought. If they were able to have their dragons talk entirely for them then F'ell was going to find this whole encounter so much easier. Except, of course, for the fact that Teth didn't talk so much as babble and babble and carry on to the point of excess. Case in point, he could hear him continuing his babbling from before, this time to a poor dragon who was clearly too polite to tell the massive brown to shove off. With a sigh, F'ell got to his feet and started into the office.

Teth, I know it'll be hard but I need you to focus. The dragon stopped whatever he was doing as F'ell reached out. I may need you to talk for me, or at least speak to V'mel's dragon.

I can do that!! Teth's enthusiastic and loving reply gave the normally apathetic teen something to smile about, but it quickly left his face as he viewed the man in front of him. F'ellmine?

F'ell had decided that V'mel had not changed, at least from the memories he had in his youth. A bit more grey about the temples perhaps, but still that same stern look that his mother said decorated his own features. It was painfully obvious by looking that this man was his father, even if V'mel did not know it. He could have stood there in silence and made this more awkward, but how exactly was all of this going to go down? F'ell was a poor speaker at best and a downright terrible one at worst.

Teth came through again with more affection, and from the pulse of it the teen was able to assume his dragon was attempting to move closer. He wasn't sure if he was welcome to land on the ledge or anything, but he would be nearby. I am here. You can talk, I will help you. F'ell honestly didn't think he could but he was going to try.

"I...am. F'ell, of...Brown Teth." There was some hesitation in his words but none of the stuttering he'd normally have. He was taking his time thinking, moving himself slow. Maybe all that talking with his mother earlier had helped him out, and Teth's confident boost was certainly nothing to gloss over. "I...wanted....to talk with you, over....an investment you have made."

V'mel was ever courteous when it came to business. He represented the Weyr, and that meant putting the right foot forward. In this case that meant closing his current records and setting them aside, quill nestled back into the tray for it, giving him a clean desk and this F'ell person his full attention. Upon the ledge, Aviroth craned his neck around to pin Teth with his gaze. It seemed the brown wanted to come closer. A typical choice for those new riders, or those needing advice and comfort from their bond. The difference was that Teth and F'ell were not part of V'mel's classes. They were an unknown, and that made Aviroth more careful about allowing the stranger to come and perch at the edge of his ledge.

V'mel looked up as the man (he couldn't be terribly old, he realized suddenly) entered, stone-gray eyes pensively, bluntly roving over the stoic, expressionless face, the tangle of hair that seemed to have never seen a brush, the height and general build. There was something familiar... He waited with endless patience as the man (boy?) struggled through his introduction. He'd seen his share of timid youngsters and introverted weyrlings to know that the best way forward was to allow F'ell the time he needed to say his piece without interrupting. There was a familiar cast to the boy's features, but beneath the nest of hair and with the hesitation in his voice, it seemed so very unlikely.

"An investment?" Thick, rough fingers laced as he gazed across them at F'ell. "And what sort of investment would that have been?" His mind cast back, but the only things he'd ever had interest in where his brown and High Reaches Weyr. He had invested his time, his life...but he got the sense that that wasn't what F'ell meant.
