The closer she got to her destination, the fewer people she encountered...until Cora found herself at the entrance gate of one of the more established cemeteries that she knew of. It was run by a family that took great care for the dead and it was probably one of her more favorite ones that she haunted on a frequent basis. It was well-kept and tended to and, best of all, it was peaceful and quiet....and that's why Cora liked it. Between the combination of the architecture of the headstones and markers and the beauty of nature, what was there not to like? Well....sure, she could guess it was hard for those who lost loved ones to return to a place where they regarded it with sadness...but at least those who passed were in a beautiful place. Shouldn't that be a happy thought?
Cora made her way into the cemetery in a fashion she was accustomed to; moving between the larger headstones and markers that she could hide behind in case there were mourners or other people about, she weaved her way to a section she hadn't had a chance to see yet. Ah yes....here was where she would start. Slowly she made her way to a grave and placed one of the Cala lilies she had upon the ground near the headstone. "...I know you are here..." She said softly, looking over the headstone for a moment before she moved on to another one. Once more she placed a lily on the ground near the marker. "...You are not forgotten..." She said to this one, again regarding the marker before she moved to another. She continued this pattern of moving to a grave and, if it had nothing near it, she would place a flower upon it. She would skip over the ones that had fresh or semi-fresh flowers on them, seeing as they were still being remembered regularly, but she still stopped to pay respect to the grave.
Eventually she came upon a stone that was older and had started to accumulate moss. Even in a well-maintained cemetery like this one, there would be some that were accidentally skipped over. She set down the bouquet and started to carefully clear away the moss, at least from the face of the headstone, humming softly to herself as she did so. Despite it being an older one and the carved lettering slightly degraded, she cleared the green interloper from the letters so that the name and epitaph were visible again. "There....much better. Now we can see who you are..." Behind the hair that always covered her face, she smiled just a little and picked up the lilies again, placing one in front of the newly cleaned headstone before she moved on to another.
Cora left a trail of carefully placed lilies and care behind her as she gradually made her way through, humming to herself nearly constantly now. She loved it here. Here....it was peaceful. Here....she could walk without fear. Here....the dead didn't judge her....not like other kids. This sanctuary for those who passed was also her safe haven and she was doing her best to show it love and respect so that she would still be welcomed here by the denizens in forever sleep.
