It felt as though the whole world had shattered. Cambria had wanted to say something—anything to stop Evan from just walking away but it had felt as though her voice was frozen in her throat. Stuck somewhere that she didn’t have access too, and now Evan was in his room and the door was closed.

The door was closed. To her.

She had been Evan’s closest…everything since he had become human again. Sure he craved the strength of Zac…but she had been the one she had come to about Maxim. She had been the one who cradled him while he confessed his fears, while he spoke of his dreams of opening a food truck, while he talked about this fantastic new boy that he had met.

She had gotten used to being in this strange mother slash big sister role and the fact that she might now lose everything because Zac had been too damn scared to tell Evan the truth at any point in the past…well. Over a year…made her upset.

…no. It made her angry.

She hadn’t felt angry at Zac before. Not like this. Not for anything. She hadn’t been angry at Sanidine for turning Evan into a youma—it had been an accident. She had known that from the first time she had met the little youma and the Negaverse General who he served under. She hadn’t been angry when she learned that Sanidine had almost killed one of her best friends. He had seemed so upset about that too. It had been a mistake and he had suffered for it. Suffered more than he wanted to admit.

She hadn’t been angry when she found out that Sanidine was Zack. Her Zack. The man that she loved. The one she had given her heart to and hoped to be with for the rest of her life…but…

But she was angry now.

This hadn’t been an accident. This wasn’t something that was done and instantly regretted. This was a decision that she had never quite been comfortable with…and while Cambria knew that she was partly to blame for this, she had wanted to tell Evan. She had known it would be rough…but wasn’t everything rough where Evan was concerned? It wasn’t like they could just sweep this under the rug forever…and now it had bit them in the a**…and she was pissed.

Pissed and utterly heartbroken.

This wasn’t a mistake. This was completely and utterly preventable…but Zac had been a stubborn mule headed piece of s**t and now they would both suffer for it. They would all suffer for it…and Evan would be alone. Evan wouldn’t want her comfort.

The thought made tears spring to her eyes and for a moment the room seemed to spin slowly around her. They would fix things. They had to fix things. But…it wouldn’t be easy. She was going to rip Zac a new one when he got home, she knew that at least…but…

Cambria swallowed hard and watched Evan’s door for a long moment, before finally turning and heading back into the living room, curling on the couch and burying her head in a pillow.

She would let him have his space.

For now, her focus was on the door, ready for when Zac came home.
There were several things that had to be said.
