-Irritating. Irritating, irritated, annoyed, furious. All similar words ran through Kei's head as it waited impatiently for the appointment to be over. The kid, apparently a kid, had asked it's father to join their family. Not as a family, surely, but Kei could hardly believe Sadiki had acquiesced to this. It wasn't going to be something it was happy about, apparently the kid was a basket-case, and had recently run away from home. How droll was it to need to be a part of this at all.
But Narcissa had the day off, the day was slow, and Kei was, to say the least, bored out of its skull. It could use another secretary, and as long as the kid wasn't too horrendous to work with, it would mean less work for it overall. In the end, it would be up to Sadiki if the kid was even going to be let into the back rooms.
It was Kei's job to test him in whatever manner it thought would be best.

-Phone calls had never been his strong suit. It was always hard to tell how the other person was reacting with only their voice, so he almost didn't believe the deep voice on the other line when it told him he could join up. For a while he'd heard whispers of a family that not only adopted and took in kids...like himself, but apparently they were into crazy s**t. Like dead people. And poison. And, well, just things that were different from his mother's constant partying and nothing but video games all the time.
The building he took directions to was dilapidated and needed someone to clean the garden. Bricks were missing from the wall, and as he entered through the doors, his too-sensitive nose wrinkled in disgust as the strong scent of incense assaulted it. It would probably be something he could get used to, in time, but the strong, unpleasant scent coupled with his currently conflicting emotions did nothing to help his mood.
Upon seeing the hybrid seated behind a desk, AJ scoffed. It looked like it was wearing a costume with those candles on it's head, and he couldn't help but make a remark.
"So, what, is it dress-up day every day around here?"

Hybrid. Grimm, obviously, but what else? Litch? No, he didn't seem it. Elf? Yes, that had to be it. That would explain his arrogance. and Kei didn't take arrogance too kindly.
As if the flames on it's head decor were an extension of it's tendrils, they flared and flickered in response to it's mood. Narrowing its red eyes dangerously, Kei allowed the newcomer to look around while it continued to digest him.
Not too young, surely on the cusp of puberty. Egotistical, from the way he walked. Insecure, maybe? Lonely, for sure, what else would drive him to seek companionship with the Shion-iro? Anger...oh...anger. Seething with anger and resentment.
Flashing its teeth in a too-wide grin, Kei didn't give the younger boy too much of a warning before leaping up and over the desk, one hand balled up in a fist and heading towards his jaw.

Sorry AJ you don't even get to roll to dodge you just get a retaliatory roll
Drab and dark. A stark contrast to the bright neon he was used to seeing at his mom and Unca's. While it should have been a relief, he almost felt...sad. Upset. Out of place. But he would have to make things work, right? This would have to be his new home, his new family. Luckily, he was told he didn't have to accept the others as siblings, so in his mind that made him--
-WHAM-
AJ's vision momentarily went black as pain shot from where the other's fist connected with his jaw. If he had any coherent thoughts in that moment, he would have heard something snap, but it took him a good full minute to clear his thoughts, his vision, and to spit the blood out of his mouth. Along with the fluid came what had to be his final baby tooth, a small molar, that clattered on the floor. For yet another minute, he rest on his hands and knees, trying to understand what had just happened.
When something rational didn't pop up, he resorted to his plan B. Plan B was great. Plan B meant someone was going to hurt. And he was going to like it.
With what could only be a roar of fury, AJ leapt off the floor, his own fist ready to slam into whatever part of his attacker he could make contact with.

A slight flicker of guilt could be felt in it's chest for hitting someone that much younger than him. But Sadiki had told it to use whatever means it felt should be used, and with how much anger and rage it could feel coming from the boy, it seemed like a good way to try and knock it out of him. Humble him a bit, calm him down. Heck, maybe even knock him out to take him to Sei to see if she could soothe the poor thing.
But before it could come up with what to do with the prone boy, it was startled by the small form leaping up and punching it in the gut. With a wheeze, Kei doubled over momentarily. It hadn't seen that coming, as even the twins, when sparring, would take more than a minute to recover from being clocked like that. But this kid...this kid was definitely fueled by aggression.
With it's own snarl of anger, it reached out to grab either the boy's hair, ear, or even arm. Wherever he could to restrain him a bit. Forgot to roll 2nd d20 for offense, did so in discord

Still reeling from the pain still stabbing at him from his jaw, AJ couldn't help but bark out a laugh as he made the older hybrid double over. He wasn't to be messed with, and he had to make his point. There wasn't any point to this, really, but if it was something to expect with this family? Well, AJ would just have to toughen up. Ignore the pain.
Unfortunately, the pain was distracting, and the moment he winced was the wrong moment, and he found himself yelping in even more pain as his mop of messy hair was grabbed. Struggling for even a moment only added to the pile of hurt he was feeling as he felt, maybe even heard, some of his hairs being yanked out he was grabbed so roughly.
As pissed off as he was, the pain was greater and his struggling ceased. Glaring up at the candle-topped hybrid, he bared his small canines in a defiant snarl.
"Nice...Picking on a...kid..." Talking hurt. Talking REALLY hurt.

"Oh, don't give me that." Kei hissed as it released the grimm mutt, roughly shoving him back down onto the floor. Maybe a little too rough, but if Kei felt remorse, it was damn good at hiding it in this moment.
"Y'think y'tough s**t, don'cha?" it continued, crouching down in front of the boy. "Yea, so much tough s**t y'come waltzin' here'n get'cha a** laid on th'floor before y'even say hi. Y'think y'always be able t'walk in places n'be all dandy n'good? Naw, naw." Kei's wicked grin widened. "Y'gotta expect th'worst sometimes. 'specially 'round here."
Standing back up and straightening it's garb, it turned and walked back to the desk. Instead of walking beind, it instead leaped right back over to land in the chair, crouching it it instead of sitting.
"Pop said y'name's AJ. Y'aint bad, AJ. Need some work. An' I mean y'temper. But y'aint bad."

AJ didn't even feel it when he hit the floor for the second time in less than three minutes, his jaw still twinging and seemingly spasming. He didn't even fully comprehend what the hybrid was saying, let alone try and defend himself. This wasn't the welcome he expected at all, and he was so taken aback, instead of getting up again, he simply sat on the floor. And stared at the hybrid that knew his name.
"...Pop?" Again, it took him a moment. "N-no, I...I talked to whoever was the...the big boss. Not an old fart." The moment the last few words left his mouth, he winced, as if expecting to be hit again for it.

At that, Kei laughed. Usuaually it was only it's family that dared call their patriarch an 'old fart', but here AJ was, running his mouth like he already belonged. It was a good sign, really, and Kei couldn't stop itself from giggling. Not only did AJ manage to not pass out from the initial attack, but he swung back. With both fist and word. And in this business, only those armed with both were able to survive.
"Name's Kei. Y'gonna need t'go with Sei when she gets back, meet th'rest of the fam. Bu'far's I figure, y'gon be a'ight." Again, it grinned wide. "If y'can handle it, kid."

That was it? That's all it took for him to be in with this family? Seriously?
He couldn't complain though. He wouldn't complain. His jaw hurt, his back hurt, his head hurt and his a** hurt. Pride...Pride was a different story. He'd been jumped. It wasn't a fair fight. The territory was unfamiliar, and Kei had at least two feet on him. In AJ's mind, he won. He won because he got up. He won because he was standing up again and walking towards the desk. He won because he was still walking and breathing. He won.
"...So." He started, leaning on the desk and giving his new 'sibling' a s**t-eating grin. It wasn't going to be easy, especially not in the beginning, but it was a new chapter, and he was eager to start on it. "When do I start?"
