"Jesus Christ, why is it so fast?" It was little better than breathless weeze as Baikal sprinted after the lashing tail of the mashed up abomination 9f a youma he'd just driven away from a couple of teenages walking home from...somewhere. It didn't matter. They were safe, and the page was in pursuit of the monster, but it was really ******** fast, and it was starting to seem like there was a chance baikal might actually lose it. A nightmarish mix of big cat and reptile with a dash of insect for horror's sake, the youma seemed built for speed. It took the corners effortlessly, leasing the page down allies and along side streets in a teisting, turning race, and with every passing second the tail in front of him was further away. If he didn't think of something fast, it was going to get away, and there'd be even more civilians in danger. The page didn't do much in this war, but he at least took this seriously. He didn't even notice, in his haste to keep up, that he was charging towards another order aura.

"Heads up!"
A blur of white and gold fabric dove from a nearby rooftop, and it slammed into the space in front of the youma's serpentine body, more power than finesse. Chauvet Page stumbled to her feet, rubbing some of the red out of her nose while she squared down the oncoming creature. She wanted to tell herself that she was responsible like the other page who seemed to be chasing the beast down, that she had been out on patrol and felt the auras like a cry for help. The truth was, Chauvet had been sulking on top of a roof like the edgiest hero she could be, and now she was being interrupted by some cat-snake-bug.
It pissed her off, but at least it meant she wasn't crying anymore.
"C'mere, ugly," Chauvet called out, arms wide, but even she underestimated how quickly this thing could move. Already it was scrambling up the side of a building, its torso slithering just out of her grasp until she jumped, reached her gloved hands around a body made of chitin and scales and fur.
To her credit, she did manage to wrench the youma free of the building. However, it meant she had caught the proverbial tiger by its toe, and found herself crashing back down to the ground with the writhing creature in her arms. If she let go, she was certainly going to get tossed aside to who knows where, and then she would have left her brooding perch for nothing. Chauvet grit her teeth and crossed her arms and held on as tightly as she could, digging in for the strength to hold on.

Baikal very nearly ran into the youma's backside as it slid to sudden and unexpected stop as something pale dropped to the ground in front of it. He stopped just short of of slamming into it's flank and had to drop to all fours with a yelp to avoid a reptilian tail whipping over his head. "********!" That was close.Scrambling to the side, he pushed back up to his feet as soon as it was safe for him to do so, and backed towards the wall of the alley as he summoned his snowball to one hand, ready to fling it at the thing's face if it lurched at back at him or at... It was another page, this one certainly wasn't aligned with Mercury. Whites and pastel rainbows, stars, if he were to guess he'd have to say she was a page of Cosmos. He'd only get a brief look at her before the youma was on the move again, dodging around her to head straight for the wall, and then up it, as if gravity meant nothing to it. "Are you ******** kidding me?" He groaned, turning to race across the alley, but the other page reached it first and ripped it bodily off the wall it'd been scaling. And now they had a little bit of a problem. She'd torn it down, but letting it go would either let it possibly escape again, or it'd whip around and tear into her the second it was able to. "Hang on!" As if that wasn't obvious, but he wanted her to know he was coming to help her. He just wasn't entirely sure how...The cold from the snow in his hand was making his fingers ache, reminding him of his weapon. Rushing in, past one flaying limb only to get caught across the chest by another, the Mercury page slammed the icy ball of small right into the youma's face. A distraction, at the very least, but his real aim was to stun it.

Chauvet was vaguely aware of the page who had chased this thing down as a voice, a brushstroke of blue and auric concentration, but there was not much else she could ascertain while she was astride the youma equivalent of a mechanical bull. "That was the plan," she quipped back, certainly having no intention of letting go of the thing, but the fact remained that they still had no concrete plan for putting the creature down.
Luckily for her, the youma stopped bucking its torso just long enough to shake the snow from its eyes, and that's when Chauvet took the opportunity to unravel from its sinuous torso, taking a swipe to her shoulder to get out of its immediate range and closer to the snow page. "What are we even supposed to do about that thing?" she barked, summoning her ball to hand--but like many times before, when she chucked it at the youma, it bounced harmlessly off of its weird chitin-scales.
(She was really hoping one of these days it would open up like a Pokeball and capture the youma, making them friends and partners for life, but so far she had no luck.)
"What if--can we tarp it?" Chauvet asked, glancing around for something that she could cast around the creature, like a net or a heavy blanket. By her estimation, however, the alleyway looked pretty threadbare--and the youma was righting its limbs and hissing, preparing for another sprint. They had to think, fast.
"What if we run it into traffic?"

Baikal winced as he saw claws rake across a freckled shoulder, hoped the blow looked worse than he felt. So far he'd avoided this youma's sharper bits, but he'd been at the mercy of a nasty pare of talons before, and it ******** hurt. Not only that, it was a pain in the a** trying to come up with reasonable, every day excuses for an injury that looked anything but common place. He tried to get a better look at her arm as she retreated closer to him, but the youma wouldn't give him the time to worry about her just yet. It was recovering very quickly, and despite the other page's prompting he wasn't entirely sure what they were going to do about it. The Mercury page summoned another snowball, for as much good as it'd do him if he had to use it, and opened his mouth to suggest...he didn't even know. "Trap it where?" He wasn't against the idea, if they could figure out the logistics of it before it either escaped or managed to maul the both of them. The second suggested seemed considerably more doable, and a more immediate solution. "Yes! Let's try that!" He lobbed the snowball at the beast again, nailing it on an exo-skelletal shoulder plate. It howled at the pair of them, enraged, but it did turn back towards the entrance of the alley. "Nail it again." And let's hope the traffics as thick as it usually is at this time of night...

"Sounds good," Chauvet nodded, summoning her ball to hand. It never did much in a fight against beasts, but sometimes she could use it to distract or anger, which is really all she needed to do to get this thing following them out to the main road.
And then she saw the other page lob a snowball, which had her cackling in delight. "Hahaha--oh my god--we're practically twins," Chauvet cheered, holding up her ball, and then she tossed hers in kind, bopping the youma right on the nose. The creature hissed, winding up on its back legs with a hiss, and then started barreling towards them with an angry screech.
Chauvet didn't wait--she spun on her heels and hauled a**. "Get to the end of the alleyway and then jump over the street," she called back to the other page, picking up as much speed as she could in her sparkling golden heels. Even with super strength, she was going to need a lot of momentum to clear two lanes of traffic without hitting any cars.

The combination of snowball and volleyball definitely seemed to have gotten the thing's attention. It howled at them, enraged, and dropped into a furious charge. "s**t." Suddenly this plan didn't seem half so sound. Turning on glowing heels, the page took off down the alleyway with Chauvet right beside him, her heels snapping against the concrete loudly as sprinted towards the street. "This is going to be quite the ********' jump!" Which should be more than doable, considering their speed and strength, but now was just a really unfortunate time to doubt himself. But despite that, misgivings aside, as they reached the edge of the sidewalk the man made a grab for the other page's hand before launching himself into the air in a mighty jump that'd take the both of them over the three lanes separating them from the other side of the road. The landing was rough, Baikal having to smack his hands into the side of a building to stop himself, but he spun around to see if the youma was following them.

For a moment, Chauvet wasn't certain if she'd just gone and left the other page behind, because she stopped hearing anything that wasn't the wardrum sound of her heart in her ears. Then she felt a hand slip into hers and figured everything was going to be just fine.
She cackled when her feet hit pavement, laughing all the way to nearly smashing her face into a building wall, high off of the rush that came from being able to jump over traffic like it was cake. She spun on her heels, watching the youma screech and skitter into the road--
--and then explode into dust when a car careened into its side.
Chauvet lifted both her arms so she could whoop in victory, taking Baikal's hand with her. "Holy s**t, that actually worked, did you see how it just--p-kow, that was incredible, hahaha!!" She started to spin, but that's when she noticed the dust settling, which revealed a half busted car and a very frustrated driver, peeking out at them from the front seat.
"Oh ********," Chauvet whispered, lowering her hands because she hadn't considered the fact that there would be people in traffic. The same people they were intending to save...well. This was awkward. "Maybe we should...go," she suggested lowly, pulling her lower lip between her teeth. "Something tells me we aren't about to have a bunch of grateful civilians on our hands."

There were a handful of seconds where Baikal wasn't sure if their plan was going to work, but then the youma was charging after them, through the road, and with a loud shriek(and crunch of metal) the vicious beast eruptedin a cloud of dust. The Mercury page whooped along with his new companion, face split in a wide, relieved grin, laughing along as Chauvet gave a detailed recount of the last minute. Only to wince a split second after her whsipered curse. " s**t," he exhoed her, with feeling. "Yeah, we probably should..." "Flashing a quick, apologetic smile at the driver he tightened his grip on the other pages hand and started down the sidewalk at a run, and then pulled her down the first available side street. Only then did he slow down again, letting her go. "I sure hope he has insurance."

Chauvet's eyes darted between the man and the model of the car he drove and made a judgement call over her shoulder . "He'll be fiiiiiine," she winced as they jogged, and by the time they got to a stopping place any worry she had was quickly replaced by a haphazard grin. They'd pulled it off. They'd really pulled it off, and a youma was dust, and it was hard not to feel giddy off of the adrenaline rush that came from jumping over multiple lanes of traffic.
"But really, though, that was awesome," Chauvet wheezed, halfway between a laugh and catching her breath. "I don't think I've had this much fun since a sewer alligator thing ate my phone in the park. What's your name? I'm Chauvet--" she paused, as if only then she remembered she was supposed to be some kind of official hero, and put her hands on her hips, shoulders back, "--Page of Cosmos."
After all, what was the point of fighting monsters if you couldn't do a power pose when you won?

Fun wouldn't have been Baikal's first assessment of what had just happened but he thought about it for a moment as they both caught their breath, and looking back now he had to agree with her. It'd been exciting, dangerous, and that last leap over the cars...well, he hadn't wanted to share his doubts at the time, but he hadn't actually been expecting that to work. It was crazy to him that it had, and really ******** impressive. Chuckling, the other page straightened up as Chauvet introduced herself, and after she'd struck the quintessential super hero pose he offered his hand to her with an easy grin. "Baikal, page of Mercury." He didn't know that many other knights, so it was always nice meeting another one, and he didn't think he'd run into anyone standing for Cosmos yet. "That was nuts," he finally admitted, running a hand back through his hair as he looked back the way they'd come. "I'm glad you showed up, cause that Youma was a lot faster than me." He didn't to think about what might have happened if they'd lost it.

"Youma tend to be fast," Chauvet nodded sagely, shrugging her shoulders. "Or they're strong. Or sometimes they look like giant trees and you have to set 'em on fire so they'll dust. Either way, it's all kind of nuts. This whole city is nuts."
That said, her pensive expression turned into a half-knit grin, and she dropped the superhero pose to clap Baikal on the shoulder. "But it's not so bad if you've got friends to fight 'em off with." An hour or so, she'd been on a roof crying to herself and trying to pretend like she wasn't, but now, with a shock of adrenaline, she was starting to feel okay. Chauvet could work with that--maybe that's all she'd been missing to get out of her funk.
"Tell you what, have you ever had post-youma ice cream? I know a place a few blocks away, my treat." Chauvet nodded her head back towards the street, then jogged a few steps, turning back to hold out her hand.Beejoux Let's get a wrap on this~

"That's weirdly specific," he noted, a crooked smile on his face. "Speaking from experience?" He'd certainly not run into any vegetative youma in his time as a page. Which wasn't saying much, considering he'd taken a hiatus from powered life to finish up his bachelors. Pale brows rose at the offer, but he jogged those few steps she'd made between them to take her outstretched hand. "I haven't actually, but ice cream in this heat sounds like a great idea."
