[PRP] The first lesson [Nafasi/Sezulwini]

Sezulwini had been uncertain about the situation with the female at first things had gone a little strange but Sezulwini couldn't fault Nafasi for wanting to live her life her own way, after all, he didn't live with a pack at all. He had no family, no rules. His worry that she would be hurt or killed on her own was solved when she accepted his offer to allow him to teach her the ways of survival. It would take a long time to teach her and he had no plans so off they went her family would just have to deal with their daughter stretching her legs and feeling the dirt under her paws.

He took her out far away from her homeland traveling for days and crossing streams he scented out since she wanted to learn out from under the shadow of her family it was Sezulwini's duty to keep her family from tracking her down before she was ready to return to them. He took them through the tall monkey grass and to the edge where there was a clearing and an animal nearby. "Your first lesson feeding yourself. You have to learn to hunt." He said softly.

She followed him with only the mildest complaining, and it was usually about being thirsty. She seemed to need a lot of water, or maybe it was Nafasi's way of saying she needed a short break. Hopefully Sezulwini never figured out which is which because their drinking breaks would surely be a lot more swift.

When they finally got to some sort of clearing and an gazelle nearby, those blue eyes turned a bit dark with hunger. She hadn't eaten since they'd left. Nothing completely unusual for her, but she was used to eating frequently compared to rogues. A pink tongue came out and licked her muzzle as she stared at the prey in question instead of fully listening to what her new teacher was going to tell her. Oh, she was trying to keep her manners, being proper, make eye contact, nod to let them know she was listening, but at the same time she couldn't.

She was so hungry.

"...Hunting?" She knew the basics. Never once had she had to implement them, but her mother did teach her family. Of course as Heir she had better things to learn, but she did watch the lessons with her brothers and sisters.

"Okay." She looked at him slowly and then back to the gazelle before moving ahead in the grass. She was trying to be quiet, but sticks and stones moved and she quickly stopped and crouched low. This was so much harder than she thought.

"What do I do?"

He nodded "Yes hunting, finding your own food and water is a major part of survival." He said softly careful with his movements not to frighten the animals nearby. "Feel the earth beneath your paws." He said in a soft calm tone "Quietly move as close as you can to your target then dash out and attack, you aim for the neck and try to take the prey down quickly. If you are alone. In a pack, you work as a team to take down the prey and drive the herd apart." Sezulwini wasn't worried about Nafasi failing as much as he was worried she might get hurt. "You must be careful of the hooves so you do not get hurt." He said "Now go ahead and try."

He might not be worried about her failing, but if Nafasi failed, it would solidify certain self-doubts in her mind. The yellow female was quite hard on herself.

The girl stopped and took a deep breath, those bright, sky blue eyes closed and it looked like Nafasi might actually be trying to take this seriously. She always was. There was no room for failure.

Once her eyes snapped open, she took off toward the gazelle again, trying to plan her steps out ahead of time, walking a bit awkwardly. She managed to get a lot closer to the target, but she was hesitating, there on her belly in the tall grasses. The wild dog wasn't sure how to go about grabbing the throat. Her ears laid back slowly before she turned to look at her tutor.

Sezulwini looked at his student who was a very lovely female indeed, but it wasn't the right time for such things. "Do you want me to show you first? He said softly so as not to frighten the prey. It was clear to see that she was uncomfortable with this lesson but it was a very important one for her to learn. It was almost impossible to survive in the rogue lands without being about to hunt. Scavengers such as hyenas and vultures sometimes sought out already dead animals, but Sezu highly doubted this delicate flower would want to eat that sort of meal.

He'd show her first? Nafasi nodded and stayed where she was, but laid down completely rather than in her crouched position. She didn't want to talk at all, in fear of making the gazelle go off and away from them when they were trying to hunt.

Part of the yellow female felt like she'd never get this. It was going to suck, honestly.

He lunged out of the monkey grass quickly and then ran after the herd of gazelles targetting the slowest one. He jumped forward and grabbed the creature by the neck biting down as hard as he could so he could start to kill the creature as fast as he could. There was no sense making the animal suffer. This also meant that their hunting would be put to a stop for today. Since there was no sense hunting more then they needed. "Come along Nafasi we will eat and then find somewhere to sleep for tonight and then we can continue your training tomorrow."

Her head poked up as soon as he lunged, watching the male take down a gazelle quickly and efficiently. She knew the basics of hunting, but never actually had seen anyone kill a creature. Nafasi moved along after him when he called and squinted.

"You don't have to call to me like I'm a pup, you know."

He chuckled and then said, "In the ways of survival you are still a pup, but don't worry you will learn." He said with a smile. Sezu had no intention on giving up on Nafasi no matter how long it took to teach her how to hunt and find water. He couldn't put his paw on why he would go to such lengths for her, perhaps it was selfish in part so he could spend more time with her. "Perhaps we can use this as part of your training finding a safe place to sleep." He said still leading the way.

She wasn't happy about being treated like a pup. She was honestly an adult and had a lot of responsibility in her pack. None the less, the Princess's head was up right as she followed along obediently.

"Just you watch. I'll be better than you."
