Name: Haveli
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Busy
Craft: Farmcraft
Rank: Apprentice? - Currently a Candidate
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Haveli is average, but thick; she's heavy in places she should be light and light in the heavy spots. Her general expression is about as sour as you'd expect for someone of her personality, and she looks a lot older than her actual age due to malnutrition and stress in her younger years.
Her hair is straw blonde and just as stiff as straw, so matter how hard she tries to style it it always ends up falling out or looking rough. Her eyes are a dusky shade of blue, and they're the only feature on her face a person could dare call pretty.
Haveli has quite a few scars on her back, but that is none of anyone's business.
Personality: Haveli is not a nice person. Underhanded and more than willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, she first builds bridges with people only to turn around and burn them as soon as she no longer needs them. She probably even uses the ashes for make-up, perfecting her art of use 'em and lose 'em to the point she's lost track of who she's wronged in the past and who she's treated right. 'Regret' is not a word she keeps in her day to day lexicon, because to look back on anything with regret means she just wasn't willing to grasp her moment. There is nothing off limits for her in her quest to get what she wants - if she's got to sleep her way to the top, you can bet she'll be wearing her nicest underclothes when the moment strikes; if she's got to abandon someone in favor of taking a chance, she won't even look back.
Her ambition, while terrifying, works as a double-edged sword. It prevents her from giving up when times get tough, and it drives her to succeed even in situations that are doomed to fail. It oddly gives her an optimistic outlook on her chances no matter how truly abysmal they are, and her self-confidence is practically through the roof. She knows she's amazing and she doesn't really need anyone else to tell her that, though of course it doesn't hurt to be reminded by random strangers. Haveli won't settle for anything, not if there is something better out there and she's able to strive for it. Goals are created to be met, after all.
And really, there's almost nothing she can't do or nothing she can't find someone to do for her. She's capable in the most unusual of ways, in that if she's not the one to complete the job she'll certain locate someone who can - and likely take the credit, because of course she will. There is no task too small if it'll help her achieve her goals, nothing too dirty or beneath her. Haveli is a quick learner, catching on to simple tasks and complicated ones with practice and instruction. If she's able to do everything asked of her, why wouldn't people want to depend on her? In the end it all comes back to her ambition and advancing her goal, even if she does have a faint natural talent for tasks.
Haveli is also, more or less, ambitious in her thinking which leads her to trying to find new ways to do things. This ties in with her capability, as she'd rather not have to have someone do something for her and risk getting all the credit, and it also extends to her views on people in positions of power. Color matters, of course, but to what extent remains to be seen. She understands hierarchy, it helps keep people alive, but....why not change things a little bit? Shift some duties, allow some leeway - not too big, of course, but just enough to make things run faster. Efficiency is key, right? If the Weyr runs smoothly, why not let her take credit for her ideas? You're welcome.
But, um, don't try to claim something that she did or that belongs to her. Haveli is possessive to the point of near frenzy, as people or things that she has laid claim to will be defended with a vicious hand. Likely stemming from her childhood and having to keep hold of what little she had, she will do anything to keep what belongs to her, even if it means sacrificing other things just to have what she considers most precious.
Positive Trait List Ambitious, capable, forward-thinking
Negative Trait List Self-serving, underhanded, possessive
History: Born to parents who raised herdbeasts, life was fairly uneventful. Her father ranted against dragonriders and how they were unfair, and her mother was quiet and occasionally deflected her father's anger. Havevli didn't care much for either of them, nor her way of life, until the birth of her younger sister Arlie. With someone who depended on her, Haveli thrived, and while home life wasn't exactly perfect it was somewhat worth doing.
Until the return of Thread, and the near destruction of her family's herds and lands. With her father turning to drink and violence over their decent into poverty, Haveli found herself turning bitter at his attitude; when her mother turned away and forced her daughters to deal with indifference, that bitterness turned to hatred. When the abuses came, and she could see the stories on the face of her sister that words would never share, Haveli was done.
Taking Arlie with her, as Haveli would rather die than leave her sister to face fate all alone, the young woman ventured out into the unknowns of Pern with no goal except for survival. Willing to do anything to keep herself and her sister alive, Haveli endured until the day she was searched while looking for work in a small hold. Knowing Weyrlife would ultimately be better than scraping by in gutters to survive, she accepted - only, Arlie wasn't offered the same.
Without blinking an eye, without refusing, Haveli all but bribed the rider to bring her sister along - swearing she'd find a way for her to provide for the Weyr and make it worthwhile for her to come along. With both sisters safely brought to High Reaches, it seemed as though Haveli could finally....exhale.
Life was about to start, and for the woman who had fought hard to get this far, she was not about to stop.
Other: Younger sister is Arlie (played by medigel)
