User Image Beltan was back in the throne room watching the palace walls crumble around him just as all his carefully laid plans and long-rehearsed intentions did the same. Captain Turin's tail fins whipped out of sight followed almost immediately by a deeply distressed Tariel. Commander Sadron surged passed in the opposite direction. He heard the earsplitting roar and felt the explosive impact of something huge and terrifying bursting through one of the palace walls. All his scales pressed tight to his body, reducing drag and prepping to flee.

Beltan spun in circles, slowly at first and then gaining speed. Blood, debris, unknown faces whipped in and out of sight. Without warning, he found himself in the nightmare world of the hurricane, desperately fighting the currents until he was struck in the head once again by something jagged and sharp. Everything went black...

~*~*~*~

Jerking awake, Beltan sat up in a regulation cot within the guard barracks and looked around. Slowly, it all came back to him. Finding and securing the injured, moving them to the infirmary, registering their deathly pale faces and horrendous wounds, trying to do so in passing so the full weight didn't render him immobile and useless. Herding scared and confused guests to safe zones. Endless interviews both given and received, questions about who he was, why he was there, where he had come from, could he confirm that this or that guest was where, and doing what, they'd said. At some point, he'd been allowed to find rest and had collapsed into the cot he was currently sitting in.

Putting his face in his hands, he just existed and breathed for a moment. Eventually satisfied that he wasn't going to fall apart, he got up and went in search of a mirror and some scissors. After an indeterminate length of time, his hair was neatly trimmed and styled into the familiar mohawk it had been before his unintentional exile. The scar on the side of his head stuck out in pale, stark contrast to the rest of his skin but there was no help for it. Next on his agenda was a visit to record-keeping.

As he suspected, he was still on the roster.

Name: Beltan

Sex: Male

Species: Convict Tang Surgeonfish Aernyn Naiad

Eye color, height, weight, distinguishing markings, etc. At the bottom it read:

MIA, Presumed Deceased

The result of his visit saw a further note added to his record: "Probationary return to active duty, investigation pending". Which meant that scouts would be sent out to confirm the existence of the island where he had, until recently, resided and he wouldn't be permitted to leave the palace grounds until such time as Captain Turin, Queen Tariel, or both could confirm his identity. With guard duty not scheduled until the following day and nothing much to do with his time currently, Beltan decided to pay a visit to the infirmary to check on the wounded with a quick stop over in the kitchen on the way.

Attina sighed and added a touch more rouge to her cheeks with a pinch. After the explosion, she had decided to stay in the castle and observe how castle life worked. Oh, how she missed her castle. She puckered her lips and began to check her features for sag as people scurried around behind her.

She had required a mirror yet had no room. So she was currently staring at her beautiful self in the hallway. Only there were a million people running around. Which made it so hard to concentrate on the prettiest fish in this joint. Herself.

Technically, she had been slightly confined to the castle, for the foreseeable future due to all the.....ruckus. But she figured once everyone got over the big fuss of the missing....brats? Critters? What did one even call those tiny beings who consumed so much attention? Ugh. She missed being fawned over.

She sighed and turned toward a maid as she scurried by. 'Do you have anywhere.....calm? I fell a migraine coming on." She asked, ending it with a pitiful sigh and downcast eyes. Best way to get some attention was to fake it, after all.

The maid pointed toward left corridor and rushed off without a backwards glance.

"Well, I never!" Attine pouted outloud, her face scrunched and bitter. "What's a princess gotta do for some damn fawning?!?!" She growled at the empty hallway.

Flicking her fins, she sauntered down the pointed out corridor, making small yet still flse moans of pain as she went. Someone was sure to notice her. Surely the other princesses couldn't be THAT important. Right?

With a couple leftover shrimp puffs in hand, Beltan ate as he moved through the castle, testing his knowledge of the layout by taking shortcuts here and there. Lucky for him, not too much had changed during his long absence, but he still managed a few wrong turnings.

By the time he had finished his meal, Beltan found himself in a narrow corridor that should, in theory, intersect the main hallway leading to the Infirmary. Just as he was nearing the end, though, he heard a sound up ahead and paused, listening.

Was that one of the wounded, up and about? Checking the urge to charge to the rescue and probably scare some innocent half to death, the naiad guard slowed and came around the corner at a leisurely pace. In front of him, facing away, was the source of what now seemed like precise, measured noises of pain. And was she checking to see if someone was looking?

Raising an eyebrow, Beltan decided that it couldn't hurt to be polite and cleared his throat, wincing a little at the gravelly quality that came with long disuse followed by sudden overuse. "Excuse me, madam, but do you need assistance? I'm on the way to the infirmary, if you'd like me to escort you the rest of the way. You appear to be in some distress."

Attina's face twitched as she withheld the huge grin that threatened to erupt as someone finally noticed her. She peeked out the corner of her eye and this time a tiny half smile did manage to escape. He was HOT. This would perfectly distract her. A nice hot body to roll around with in the halls. Sounded delish.

Deciding to ham it up a bit, she sighed loudly and muttered "...I feel so faint..." before throwing her hand to her forehead and falling over in slump. She just happened to aim her fall at this handsome stranger so that he either caught her or would be knocked over by her.

Beltan watched the smile flicker across her face and had just enough time to question if he'd actually seen it or not when he realized she was in the midst of dramatically swooning in his direction, leaving him with little in the way of options. Preferring not to be taken down by roaming nobility, Beltan moved forward and caught her mid 'faint', bracing her with his hands on her shoulders.

"What lucky timing. The infirmary is just down the hallway," he said dryly, steering her toward his right side to offer her a supporting arm.

Attina's plan was not going accordingly at all. This would not do. Time for the big guns.

As he pushed her along towards the infirmary, she relaxed her head back onto his shoulder. If he looked towards her in anyway, the arch of her back brought her prominent bosum into view. Then she all but purred in his ear "Wouldn't a soft quiet place be better? Like your bedroom?" she asked, putting a touch of pout into her tone and face.

Further down the hall, as the duo crept closer, a different kind of ruckus came into hearing. An arguement.

Opal growled and shook her finger at Logan. " Look here, mister. We can't afford you flopping around on your male pride and opening up those stitches. Now you either take your pain meds and stay in bed, or so help me, I'll go to the kitchen and get a large wok and knock you unconscious. Do you understand me?!"

She wasn't really aware that she was raising her voice but Logan was. In fact, his head throbbed in time with her words. He brought his good hand up to his face and rubbed it a bit stiffly to remind himself that sororicide was quite illegal and he was already in hot water as it is.

Groaning behind his hand, he mumbled something in response to her nagging and threw himself back onto his pillows.

Knowing she had won, he straightened upright and briefly touched her hands to her hips with a sigh. "It really is impossible to understand you when you mumble, sir. But I'll take it as you acquiesce to demands. "

Swimming over to the side of his bed, she picked up the small shell containing a few different kind of liquids in tiny cups, and held them forward. "Bottoms up, mister."

Wow, ok. He had really thought that this unknown female was just putting on an act, but maybe she actually was having a fainting spell. He interpreted her leaning her head on his shoulder as sagging against him and her purring speech as shortness of breath. On top of everything else, she was certainly incoherent. The barracks were well on the other side of the palace. "Well that's out of the question. The infirmary is just right here," he repeated, thinking she might not have caught it the first time.

Maintaining propriety, he allowed her to lean a little more of her weight on his arm as he continued toward the medical wing. He heard the arguing long before they reached the doorway, but he remained undeterred. "Come on, this way. You can have a nice lie down," he told her, trying for a soothing tone. He had already expected to find casualties from the tragedy of the Princesses' kidnapping here; it wasn't too much extra to talk with a healer about the Lady's condition.

Burdened as he was, Beltan awkwardly entered the infirmary straight into Opal and Logan's intense 'discussion'. Deciding that discretion was, indeed, the better part of valor, he hastily passed Attina off to the nearest healer with a hushed explanation of the Lady's 'condition' and a quick apology to the Lady herself before excusing himself and beating as hasty a retreat he could manage without being outright rude.
