When he wasn't out gathering energy to fill his quota he was serving the Negaverse by assisting Captain Uvarovite in his laboratory. As Lieutenant Cornetite he reported directly to General Tourmaline, but she seemed to know the value of keeping those who had little talent for field work out of it unless specifically required. It suited him just fine, of course, as he took far more interest in the 'Underground' and the information it held anyways.

It was for that reason, he was certain, that Uvarovite traded his services for Nitratine's from time to time. Nitratine was more volatile; prone to lashing out faster, whereas his own anger was slow burning. He himself needed a reason to fight. He needed something more.

He arrived at the lab at the scheduled hour, rapping lightly at the door with gloved knuckles. When he received a response he let himself in, nudging the door open and shutting it behind him. "Ready and reporting for duty, Sir."

Uvarovite looked up from where he was feeding the feral youma he had set aside for experiments when he heard the knock on his door. He had been expected and thankfully, unlike some of the others, was always on time and that was useful. "Good, we are taking a trip down into the rift. I do hope you're prepared."

He looked over at the lieutenant as he set aside the empty food bowl and dusted off his hands. "I need an aquatic feral and they are rather hard to catch single handily."

The aquatic ones were rather slippery, in more ways than one, and after catching his first he knew they would be easier to catch with at least two people. More would be better but he didn't need a big one.

"I'm afraid I left my rain boots topside and I doubt the uniforms they provide us with are water resistant, but I'm more than certain I can make do." The corners of his mouth twitched slightly into a vague smirk. Whatever Uvarovite had in mind was bound to be better than whatever General Tourmaline and Aue were putting the senshi recruits through.

"Do you have all of the supplies needed here or will we have to make a stop by the armory?" He would take any opportunity he had to get his hands on something other than the ridiculous practice poi the powers of Chaos had gifted him as his weapon summons. They were entirely ineffectual for anything other than a distraction-- he'd known that from the start and the proof was in his lack of success in battles.

"I've already collected a couple of nets and a pike from the armory." The weapons he'd taken were basic, nothing that would be all that useful in a fight but they were rather useful in getting youma. The smaller youma weren't all that hard to catch if you knew what to expect from them. Uvarovite just hadn't been able to collect enough of the aquatic ones to make as many notes on them as he wished.

That was most of the reason for the trip.

He looked down at Cornetite's boots for a moment before looking back up at the Lieutenant. "Your boots should be water resistant enough. Most of our uniforms are created for utility in all situations."

"Then I am at your disposal-- preferably not permanent disposal. Family might be thrilled to get rid of the dark cloud over their sunshine, but I don't think this seasons crew is ready to man the stage without their production manager." He snorted softly as he moved towards the gear pack Uvarovite had prepared, hefting it onto his shoulder before stepping aside so the elder man could lead the way towards and through the Hall of Shadows.

Nothing could prepare him from the feeling of being inside the Hall, nevermind the Rift following. The castle was close enough that there was always a light buzz of Chaos along his skin, but once one was actually in the Rift it became almost oppressive. It was the type of force that could pin someone down and hold them in place until they died from lack of breath if they hadn't already trained themselves to ignore the feeling of suffocation.

Visiting with his family felt like suffocating under their norms. He could deal with the discomfort of the Rift.

"Lead the way, Captain."

"Tourmaline would be quite displeased with me if I let anything happen to any of you." He smirked slightly as he lead Cornetite through the Hall of Shadows and out into the Rift. He knew their lieutenants were important, everyone turned to their cause was in some way, but some were better than others. Despite Nitratine and Cornetite's issues both of them had potential and he didn't want to risk either of them and wasn't going to put either of them in any actual danger.

Once they were out in the RIft his Pet slithered up along side them, eying Cornetite for a moment before settling in beside it's master. Uvarovite knew having the youma around would at least give them a bit more safety while they traveled. Cornetite would be less likely to run into trouble with the large youma keeping the smaller ones away just by it's presence alone.

"If you start to feel strange let me know, extra presence of Chaos aside." Taking the lieutenants down was always a risk but one he was willing to take. Even so he wouldn't want to keep them down there long enough for anything to happen. At least to the ones he wanted to keep around.

A very small part of him wanted to ask the Captain if he meant 'strange as in spider senses' versus 'strange as in drowning' but he doubted the older man would appreciate the sarcasm in the same way that any of his friends might have. He appreciated that 'no nonsense' vibe that Uvarovite gave off as it meant he knew what to expect from the other man. Knowing what to expect was always better than the sudden chaos of a training session with Tourmaline where one never knew what might come next and simply had to prepare for everything.

"Big guy isn't going to scare away the little guys that you're down here trapping, is it?" He murmured after a moment, shifting the pack on his shoulder. He knew that the youma was there at Uvarovite's side for their 'protection', marking what belonged to it, but he didn't like it. He'd been on the wrong end of the monster's jaws too many times to find its presence a comfort when surrounded by the heavy feel of Chaos around them.

"Is the water down here safe to wade in?"

Uvarovite did have to wonder for a bit of Cornetite appreciated coming down into the Rift with him or if he would prefer to be with Tourmaline training or working on keeping an eye on their foes. He had never bothered to ask, not actually concerned with the Lieutenants opinion, but was still mildly curious. The blue haired Lieutenant kept most of his thoughts to himself when he could.

Cornetite was prone to showing his emotions when in the heat of battle or when Nitratine was involved but otherwise the officer managed to keep things to himself.

"He will keep them away from us and will keep far enough away once we reach the water as to not scare the ones we want away." He could have enlisted his Pets help in capturing one of the smaller youma but they tended to thrash enough trying to get away from the larger youma that they ended up hurting themselves too much to be useful. "As for the water, I would not suggest drinking it but so far I have not noticed any ill effects."

Cornetite took 'so far I have not noticed any ill effects' to mean that no one that Uvarovite had sent to gather creatures for him had died from the water itself, nevermind what was in it. He seemed unimpressed by the lack of actual information despite being pacified for the time being that the water wouldn't kill him. Not yet, at least.

"What is the nature of the creatures you're trying to catch down here. You said aquatic, but do they all have the same features or does it vary?" He asked the questions hoping to gather more information for his own benefit as well as to keep the Captain talking. Uvarovite hadn't told him to keep quiet so for now he was not worried about scaring anything away with conversation.

"What are you looking for out here in all of this?"

"Like most of the youma they tend to look different, though I have not been able to capture many." Uvarovite took a turn away from the Castle, down a small hill toward where he knew there was a small inlet of water they could find the creatures in. "The database has very little information on them I am assuming due to their specialized nature." Having one of the creatures as a companion or using them would not be the best course in Destiny City. There were a few specimens noted in the Database from across the world but not enough.

He didn't like that no one bothered to research them more but he could understand given how hard some of them could be to capture and use.

"Information. What else?" He turned his head to look at Cornetite for a moment before returning his attention where he was walking. "Despite what some would tell you the Youma are incredibly useful creatures and the fact that we do not have proper information on them is atrocious."

"You make it sound so simple when you put it like that." Information, as if that was all there might have been to gain out of exploring the depths of Hades like this. Information, plain and simple. There was something amusing about it as well, something that almost made him want to laugh.

He didn't, of course. He wasn't sure that Uvarovite would have appreciated the laughter.

"This group that you and General Tourmaline are putting together seem to have different opinions on a lot of things that others might tell us-- Corrupt Senshi, for example, weren't considered much use until more recent years? At least not more than just tools or cannon fodder?" His brow lofted as he returned the other man's glance, wondering if Uvarovite had any extra information other than what he'd been able to read up on in regards to that.

"How many species of youma have you classified?"

"Things can be quite a bit more simple than some would lead you to believe. Information is one of our best tools. The more we know about the Senshi and the Knights the easier they are to defeat. The more we know about the youma the easier we can deploy them in situations." The way Uvarovite saw things there was no reason not to use the youma as extra troops. The right youma in the right place could cause far more havoc and deal with far more of the idiotic senshi.

One of the problems was that they tended to not be used to their full potential.

"Tools and cannon fodder, i've heard those terms used to refer to youma as well as the Corrupt Senshi." He smirked slightly as he paused at the edge of the inlet. "You've seen yourself how useful our Senshi can be when they are properly trained. Tourmaline and I can see the value in things others would throw away." Something that the others would come to regret eventually.

He left the last bit unsaid for the moment as he watched a ripple move across the surface of the water. "If you want the answer to that last bit ... I would suggest taking some time to look into the Database. Now pay attention, something has noticed us."

He wouldn't always call Mab useful, but it was much easier to get 'work' done out in the field as a lower ranking officer when one had a senshi by their side. From his understanding, that's how Tourmaline had climbed the ranks as steadily as she had-- well respected superior officer and a team consisting of a handful of Lieutenants and a corrupted senshi that Tourmaline had 'worked closely with'.

When Uvarovite called for his attention and gestured that he be silent he shifted the pack off of his back, keeping his eyes on the water as he fished out the nets. He had no reason to trust whatever lurked beneath, and only a little reason to believe that Uvarovite wouldn't try to feed him to it for Science. He kept that in mind as he drew one of the collapsible weapons out of the bag, screwing each section together until it was something to make more use of while awaiting further instruction.

Uvarovite had expected to find the water occupied by ferals but the feeling of the creature that was coming in their direction was far from that. He spit out a quiet curse as he summoned his weapon and took a step back from the edge of the water. The Pet was till hovering and he had a feeling they might need the youma's help depending on whatever was going to appear.

This was why he wanted more information. He did not like not knowing what to expect.

There was a quiet but highpitched noise before a slim sharklike Youma erupted from the water and crawled up the shore toward them. There was something dripping from it's jaws that he did not like the look of.

"Son of a b***h," he muttered beneath his breath, face contorting into a mask of irritation with a side of 'it ******** figures'. It couldn't possibly have been as easy as Uvarovite made it seem like it would be. Nothing ever was when it came to assisting the Captain outside of the lab.

When Uvarovite summoned his weapon he called his own to hand, more so they had a bit of extra light than because he anticipated being able to do any real damage with the practice poi. If anything, he was likely making himself bait, or a distraction to draw the creature's attention long enough for Uvarovite and Pet to do something about it.

"I'm going to assume this isn't what we came down here to catch? Don't think it'd fit in any of your tanks..."
