╯Bio: Raine only ever knew his mother, Liana. A half-witch half-demon/etherious. His father, Vale, is a mystery to him and he knows nothing of him outside of the fact he was a full etherious being who isn't aware he had a son and Liana was happy to keep it that way. Raines mother was his life and the day he lost her, at the age of four, was and still is the worst day of his life.
He was stolen away for what he was; an inhuman being with incredible potential. Perfect for creating a weapon. And so he grew up in a facility he only remembers as 'the lab'.
Put in classes played off as regular academics, Raine and his fellow 'students' were taught a multitude of subjects focusing on efficient communication, calculating probabilities and problem-solving. Alongside this, they were put through rigorous physical strain, testing stamina, teaching basic fighting and survival skills under the guise of keeping fit. Some children were regularly moved to different areas for 'special training' which ultimately was found to be magic
Up until the age of six, Raine had a cell mate. Another boy who was a couple of years older than him. This boy was one of the children who'd been chosen to learn a magic determined to suit their human capabilities and in this case, it was shadow magic.
Though prohibited to do so, the boy who considered Raine to be his best friend couldn't help but share his new abilities, showing him small tricks and eventually after being begged, he started to secretly teach him how to use it himself. Unfortunately, when food turned up to the rooms early one evening, the guards caught the boy using his magic in front of Raine and as instructed by the scientists should this ever happen, they punished them. Both boys were severely beaten but when Raine's friend fought back using his shadows, the guards viewed him as a failed experiment, immediately disposing of him by cutting his throat. Raine watched his only friend bleed out on the floor in front of him before he was thrown into a new cell, alone.
Whilst in solitary confinement, He developed a split personality. Originally an imaginary friend to keep him company in his new loneliness, he was often seen talking to himself, especially when faced with a mirror. Around eight years of age, the friend turned sinister. Whispering dark ideas into his ear, it urged him to lash out at the guards whenever they would deliver food, convincing him they were coming to dispose of him like they did his friend.
By the time he was nine, Raine's nature had completely changed; going from an innocent child with fast learning skills to a savage creature ruled by his demonic side that wanted nothing more than to hurt others. Researchers theorised he had been experiencing PTSD-like symptoms resulting in a weak mental resistance to his less human side,, explaining his severe mood swings and paranoia.
The scientists saw this as an opportunity to test a less humane magic. One set aside for a subject they could be sure wouldn't break under the mental strain of this particular skill. Someone who was already broken beyond repair. And so began Raine's daily training utilising blood magic. Forcing Raine to use his own blood by cutting his arms and chest, he was taught how to draw out and manipulate his own life fluid, learning to create shapes and harden them for use in fighting. The 'imaginary friend stuck in his mind, helping him focus his rage and fury whenever it was present but occasionally sending him over the edge of sanity and causing him to lash out. Several researchers lost their lives through error of not being cautious of this. Physical strength and stamina, as well as pain thresholds, were tested continuously and he often found himself in fights against people much stronger than himself purely to document how well he'd cope.
Though much different from his younger self, Raine still had a growing desire to be free from the facility and in the secrecy of his cell, he continued to practice the shadow magic his only friend had started to teach him. Working on it for months, he finally managed to successfully envelop his whole body in the shadows and this is what he used to make his escape. Though he left behind several dead bodies he classed as practice for his blood magic, it took a long time for anyone to notice he was gone from his cell.
He would have likely disappeared without a trace had he not stopped to break into the record room and find his file. Upon reading it, he discovered the true reason behind his incarceration to begin with. Purely to turn him into a weapon. He wasn't sure how they'd found out but the fact they're tortured and killed his mother in front of him just for that selfish reason sent him into a rage..
The torn apart scientists were found by security and his escape was made known across the facility but now knowing what he was capable of, Raine didn't hold back anything. He let the voice in the back of his mind, who had been whispering in his ear for so long and begging to take over was given free reign and released his unchained wish to destroy everything in his path, giving way to an etherious form and granting the scientists their wish to see what he could truly do.
After finally becoming free, but still afraid for his life and of being found. Raine failed to integrate properly into society and though the voice in his head was ever-present, he never sought the mental help he so desperately needed through fear of being locked up again. Luckily, after a long adjustment period, Raine managed to keep himself fairly stable and lives as a 'normal' wizard with a particularly strange magic doing independent jobs. However, every so often he can still take a turn; sometimes falling into a fearful helpless state from nightmares. Other times, if someone is aggressive towards him and threatens his safety or he pays witness to situations akin to what he suffered all those years ago, it can trigger him into a moment of mental weakness, allowing the demon within him to take over and seek to destroy whatever he sees as the threat.
He continues to live in the shadows, constantly attempting to seek comfort but too afraid to stay in case someone realises how messed up he is and gets him put away.
