Strange Weather ☂

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Prompt

As Spring rolls into Summer in Tendaji it appears that something is not as it should be. In fact, strange and unpredictable weather is happening all across the world. Strong storms, bizarre heat waves, unheard of snow storms, floods, and other similar events are happening in all of the countries. Some are superstitious, seeing it as a warning of great evil, others blame the Dretch, some shrug it off as a freaky incident, and others ignore that it's even such an oddity.

However, one thing is certain - all the lands are dealing with these weird weather outbreaks in their own way. How are you handling matters? Do you try to help others, are you too focused on yourself, or do you want to try and find answers for the causes behind these recent events? Or did you get caught out in the disaster yourself and these are your memories of how you had to fight against the odds to get to safety?

Basically this is a solo (or a rp with a friend) to write out how your character is being affected by these strange occurrences in Tendaji.

Please see the below to see what is occurring in each region!

Chibale and Matori are both suffering from snow - something that has rarely hit these warmer countries before! A blizzard especially is unheard of.

Jahaur and Yael are experiencing drought. Rain hasn't fallen for the last couple of weeks...

Tale, Sauti, and Oba are experiencing massive amounts of rain to the point that some of the desert is flooding.

Zena is having the strangest heat wave and some areas once covered year-round with snow and ice are even starting to melt...

Belrea is shaken. Literally. A huge earthquake has ripped through the continent scaring many and even now faint rumbles from its impact shift at random beneath your feet.

Plip. Plip. Plip.

"This is absurd. Ugh! There must be a leak in every room. What a poorly constructed establishment. How does anyone live like this? There's water splashing onto the cookware and the furniture... Even in my bed! I'm sleeping in a puddle. This is just not right, not right at all. 'You'll love the spring rain,' they told me. 'It's so nice and refreshing!' Well, let me tell you, near-drowning in my sleep is hardly what I'd call refreshing!"

If there had ever been a point where Akiyal questioned whether or not the woman pacing about in his kitchen and flinging her hands into the air in frustration was related to him (or his father, more specifically), he suddenly found that he didn't anymore. Though maybe 'prissy and complaintive' was just an Oban thing in general, more than something that was specific to his family. They seemed to be an easily annoyed people, who were only very rarely pleased with what the world had decided to give them.

Ahdaia in particular was very vocal and expressive, which might have been amusing if she wasn't so... insulting.

Gods forbid any nature try and find its way into the comfort of their house. No one had asked her to come here, as far as Akiyal was concerned. Maybe Xilarn had told her to find him and see him back to safety, as she'd done, but Aki didn't get why she needed to hang around, if all she was going to do was gripe and moan about the structural integrity of his home and complain about how it was unsuitable for life. Yeah, sometimes he had complaints about it, himself and how he'd grown up and been raised, but it was different when it came from someone he didn't know, didn't like, and who had no understanding of any piece of his life.

It was as though she was insulting him personally, and he didn't know who this woman thought she was that she could just pop up beside him on the street and start harping about everything. But that, unfortunately, wasn't exactly how Akiyal wanted to feel about his aunt.

Akiyal didn't hardly have any family. He had his father, who did try to do his best on his own. Then there were Janella and Kan, who were 'practically' family (though he hadn't yet mustered the courage to speak to them, despite being back in Suati). Other than that... well, there wasn't any 'other.' He and his dad had stuck it out by themselves for practically Aki's entire life. Janella had probably only stuck around at all because she figured Xilarn couldn't raise a kid on his own, regardless of what he wanted or how he tried, and took pity on them.

Even if he didn't know or like or trust Ahdaia, yet, Akiyal still thought that he'd want to eventually, since having a broader family support net couldn't possibly be a bad thing for him... or his father. Maybe he wasn't fully aware of it, but at least subconsciously, Aki understood that he didn't want his old man to feel how he knew he'd felt since his first boyfriend had passed: alone and adrift.

Because Akiyal had clearly never been enough on his own to fill that void, regardless of how Xilarn should have been pleased at that point just to have anyone left, and-

Well, maybe Aki couldn't complain too much about it. Xilarn had tried to take on the exact role Akiyal's mother had vacated once she passed, and he hadn't exact been grateful about it, either...

The fact remained that there was probably room for others in both of their lives, and Ahdaia was here now in all her complaintive glory, and she was at least trying, which was more than anyone could say for Xilarn's parents... He wanted to like her. She was family. And there weren't a whole plethora of other options for 'family' left.

Akiyal puffed out a sigh and looked up to her from where he sat at the table. "It's just water," he grunted. "Can't hurt you."

"No," she quipped back immediately. "But it's making a mess everywhere, and every time another drop falls on me, I feel a little warmth sapped straight from my skin! Has your roof always leaked this badly? Or is it just because no one has been around to make sure it didn't decay in any other storms..."

'Decay.' Akiyal tried not to grimace down into the bowl of warm broth Ahdaia had decided to prepare for dinner after she'd realized how 'cold' it was (it wasn't even that bad, compared to how it could be). He supposed that's what happened to things that were left to sit and fester with no one to help repair them. Xilarn had been the one to fix anything that had broken over the years, while Akiyal had just watched. He fiddled with his spoon, then pushed from the table, chair legs scraping against the wood floor as he stood.

"Nah, not quite this bad before. But I know how to patch it, so you can quit complaining, already." Watching wasn't exactly the same as doing, but that didn't mean he was completely inept. "Don't worry. I'll fix it."
