We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.Creative Writing aims to provide you with the fundamental skills for writing fiction and poetry, as well as a basic theoretical background. The unit looks at the development of these literary forms as a way of understanding how a practitioner might best approach both the writing and critical analysis of them in the contemporary context. It is designed to enable you to begin to develop a critical understanding of your own and others’ approaches to the writing life. This unit examines various forms of creative writing in order to help you develop your skills in writing fiction and poetry. It also provides you with a basic theoretical background. You will be encouraged to develop the skills required for professional writing through a series of tasks that introduce key concepts such as characterisation, constructing a scene, and writing dialogue. The unit is designed to enable you to begin to develop a critical understanding of your own and others approaches to the writing life. Two assessment items are required for this unit. One is a short creative work that reflects your developing skills and knowledge as a creative writer. The second is a portfolio of work. This item will demonstrate your engagement with writing activities, editorial tasks and contribution to constructive peer review and critique undertaken over the semester.

Teachers were expecting late-comers to classes during the first week, but he was always taking his time. With every class, the urge to pull a Teressa Caputo and say who here has a departed loved one who wants to speak with them? was always high. He was a medium himself, able to communicate with spirits, but was also able to see them and levitate.
Tables were already packed around him, but he had his bag sitting on the chair beside him to save it for someone actually willing to talk to him. Others had already stolen chairs near him to add to other tables and it frustrated him. Was it the dreadlocks? His muscles? His over-all intimidating appearance? His eyes scanned newcomers into the room and when he saw a pretty, Hispanic girl and she seemed different from the others. He smiled at her, a charming little grin, and moved his bag in an attempt to bring her over. Maybe make a new friend!

POWER: Ability Learning and Imprinting After she exchanged numbers with Kaihe she walked up the stairs to her next class. She was glad to have made a new friend. She still got rude looks as she walked to her next class but she didn't pay the any mind. She had to much confidence in herself to let a few looks bring her down. She slipped her phone into her pocket as she walked into class. She looked around for a seat when her eyes met another's and he smiled at her. She noticed him move his bag and smiled walking over and sitting down in the seat. She smiled again and set her bag down. "Hey. I'm Esmeralda. Thanks for the seat" she said. He seemed interesting and nice so she didn't mind sitting beside him though she noticed there still seemed to be a lot of people intimidated by people who are different which she found ironic since everyone at the school had abilities and would be considered freaks either way by people without abilities.

Waylon looked up when the door shut and the teacher, Miss Nebraska, stood center in the middle of the room. She raised her hand and the fireplace behind him and Esmeralda lit up. Pyrokinesis seemed to be her power, so Waylon knew not to get on her bad side. She announced that the class would focus on an introduction unit and that they would discuss their assessment near the end of class. Waylon again felt the spirits whispering around him, seeing them move around towards certain people. His left eye twitched as he did his best to ignore them. He moved his hands to his cross necklace and jerked it in a semi-circle to his lips. This was his ritual to tell spirits to leave him alone and that he would help them at a later time. Most of the spirits left, but some lingered, although in silence. He let the necklace go and returned his gaze to the teacher.

POWER: Ability Learning and Imprinting Esmeralda smiled and turned to look at the fire place when she lit the fire then looked back to the teacher as she started class. She looked to Waylon when he had brought his necklace to his lips. She was curious what he was doing but didnt want to pry. She looked back to the teacher and took notes. She wrote what she felt she would need to keep in mind and remember when it came to the assignments.

𝖂𝖆𝖞𝖑𝖔𝖓 𝕯𝖆𝖛𝖊𝖓𝖕𝖔𝖗𝖙20 // Major Musical Theater // Minors Fitness, Creative Writing, Choir, Dance // Extra-Curricular Class A Capella◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙ There was one particular spirit who would not leave him alone and was pestering him. It was around the teacher, touching her hand, so he assumed it was a deceased husband. He didn't want to try and do a reading in the middle of class, but he knew he wouldn't be able to ignore it for long. He sighed, clutching the necklace and reciting a small prayer in an attempt to shoo the spirit away. The spirit stayed in defiance, glaring at Waylon in an angry manner. He would not leave until what he said was heard. "I'm terribly sorry to do this now, miss, but do you by chance have a husband who has passed on? He's has something to say to you and he won't leave until I pass it on," he blurted out in the middle of the class.
The teacher blinked rapidly, the fire flickering to show her emotion, "...yes. My husband Chris passed away from cancer a year ago."
Waylon listened to the spirit, ghost, spector, whatever you wanted to call it for a moment and relayed what needed to be said. "He says that you don't need to blame yourself for not being there when he passed on. He says that he waited for you to leave the room so he could take his last breaths. He didn't want you to see him go, but that it wasn't your fault. It was his time and he knew it. He loves the time you spent together in the months leading up to those final moments. The trips to Paris, the picnic lunch after seeing the Notre Dame, the night spent biking along the river. He wants you to know that he loved every moment with you and that you need to allow yourself to move on instead of being stuck in that moment in time," he stated.
Students were chattering behind him and he wanted to smack them for trying to say he was lying. The way Miss Nebraska reacted, a teary-eyed laugh and her finger sliding over her wedding ring, showed he wasn't lying. He gave him a brisk nod, composed herself, and continued teaching the class about the assessments due at the end of the term; a portfolio of documents relating to their career aspects once finished with university and what they could do to help that, a resume, and so on. Waylon was just happy the spirits had left him alone now. He could focus on the class at hand.

POWER: Ability Learning and Imprinting Esmeralda focused as the teacher spoke. Explaining the curriculum and what she hoped would be accomplished this year. She turned her head to look at Waylon when he spoke and started to ask about the teacher's deceased husband. She was rather taken back herself especially when the teacher responded. She looked to the teacher then back to Waylon as he continued to speak and pass a message to her from her husband. She could hear whispers behind them but she didn't think he was lying at all. She had never met a medium before and she respected him for helping those who were stuck roaming around the living. She gave him a smile and looked back to the teacher as she continued with their lesson.

He looked to Esmeralda and let out a sigh, "some of them are so stubborn they never leave until you say what they want a person to hear. It sucks at night when they won't leave you alone."
He let out a nervous chuckle and continued writing down what Miss Nebraska had to say when she continued the lesson. He knew his power was something people misunderstood, and that people always thought he was lying or was merely a telepath, but he knew his ability and knew others shared the same. He assumed all mediums could tell who another medium was, but he hadn't met someone similar yet. Something about Esmeralda seemed like she had a possibility of mediumship, but not the actual ability. He couldn't understand why he felt that way, but it was something he couldn't shake. Something about her ability, no doubt.

POWER: Ability Learning and Imprinting Esmeralda looked at him and listened what he said. "I'm sure some of them are" she said. "I would think some of them become desperate after roaming among the living so long. I'm sure there are not many with your ability" she said. She was slightly jealous of him having an ability that help people even if those people aren't living. She had not really taken advantage of the capability of her ability. Though she was sure his ability was rather difficult at times" She wrote notes as the teacher continued to talk.

𝖂𝖆𝖞𝖑𝖔𝖓 𝕯𝖆𝖛𝖊𝖓𝖕𝖔𝖗𝖙20 // Major Musical Theater // Minors Fitness, Creative Writing, Choir, Dance // Extra-Curricular Class A Capella◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙◘◙ He smiled back to her as he multi-tasked, writing notes as he was distracted by their conversation. "Some have been gone for years, some months, some from tragedies, some from illness, it's always interesting to communicate with them. No medium is the same; some like Teressa Caputo merely feel and hear a spirit, where as I can see them as ghosts so I guess I have a stronger connection. There'd be others who would be possessed by spirits to give messages. The world of mediumship is strange but very interesting. Always keeps you on your toes," he whispered.
He always assumed his strong connection to spirits and seeing them as he did came from the fact he was born not breathing and resuscitated after ten minutes. While there had been no brain damage or complications, the nurse always said that there would be "changes to the body in teen years". Waylon always assumed she could see the future and saw him unlock his mediumship abilities. He couldn't be sure as the nurse was no longer working for that hospital and from what he could tell she'd passed away.
Esmeralda seemed like a very interesting person, and the fact she wasn't squirming in her seat or scooting away from him was a promising sign. Few people stayed close to him after he told them, let alone showed them, his powers. He wasn't expecting to showcase them on the first class day, but he couldn't help it when a spirit wanted to communicate.

POWER: Ability Learning and Imprinting Esmeralda smiled softly as they whispered and took notes. "I'm sure it is. Learning their stories sounds like it would be very interesting. Well I never knew that but i suppose no two abilities are the same. Every person uses them differently. Well you would have to be. Never know what spirit is around or when one will show up and I'm sure there are some with ill intentions" she said enjoying their conversation as they took notes. She wanted to ask more questions like is mediumship something you are born with? Or is it an ability you gain? She had heard that children are sensitive to spirits and see things others cannot but do some of those children keep that ability as they grow? Like from interacting with the spirits?

He gave all his attention to Esmeralda, "from what I know, you're born with mediumship as an ability. Children in general are able to sense spirits more, but they lose that as they age. True mediumship isn't something that can be taught, but I don't know the exact rules for it. It might be genetic or it could be a series of events around the birth of a child."
His phone buzzed in his pocket and he unlocked it, reading a message. It was an automatic text massage from the uni about the grand opening of the pub on friday. He shrugged and put his phone away. He wouldn't want to drink, even on weekends, but he might go to the karaoke and pool rooms to wind down after classes.
