But Thresher decided it would be better to wait, instead of jumping on her gut feeling. “‘M Thresher.” She replied, giving Yoshi a firm handshake. The Oinin captain crossed her arms over her chest as the man began talking about swords, Kabutowari specifically. “This thing?” She asked, jerking her thumb over her shoulder. “Ya, it can be pretty hard t’find a good blade jus’ layin’ ‘round waitin’ fer someone t’pick it up. It’s not like swords are jus’ given out by a lady in a lake, or stuck in a stone or somethin’. I had t’fight the previous Kage for Kabutowari, here.”

The sharkwoman didn’t dwell on it too long, as Yoshi’s words about finding a good sword pulled her from her thoughts. “Why’s someone like you need somethin’ with some power?” She asked, giving him a very pointed up and down look. “‘M worried yer arms’ll fall off iff’n the wind blows on ya too hard.”

"Thresher," he repeated, committing her name and face to memory the best he could. He looked her over unabashedly when she admitted to fighting the previous kage for the Kabutowari. She did look pretty tough. Of course, he couldn't help but smile self-deprecatingly at her remark on his appearances. He couldn't blame her, but, well, this wasn't even his body. It was close, admittedly, but Yoshiaki lacked some of the modest muscle tone Yoshinobu had earned throughout his time in the academy, due to being some rich kid. In any case, he wondered if the two of them had something to learn about judging from appearances.
"Well," he mused, "I have a vision for a blade that'll serve me well, but, like you said, there's no lady in a lake to give it to me. 'Course, I don't need a blade to be strong." He bit back the urge to smirk, looking at Thresher square in the eye in case she accepted that as a challenge. "You must be connected if you're the Arashikage's girlfriend, so how about a wager? If I can show you just how far from weak I am, you'll hook me up with someone who can make a sweet blade."

Some real cojones.” She retaliated with a booming laugh. However despite her boisterous response, Yoshinobu would see a glint in the woman’s eyes. She was never one to turn down a challenge, and the toothy smirk on her face would be proof enough. “Sure, why not? I ain’t got nothin’ better t’do. On one condition of my own.” Thresher could feel her bloodlust boiling to the surface, something she kept more or less hidden ever since joining and leading the hunter nin of Arashi. A shadow covered her face and only two features were visible: her rows of sharp teeth, and her glowing blue eyes. “Y’best stop thinking I got where I am ‘cause of M’yuki. It’s a mistake tha’ could be yer last.”

"I've made a lot of 'last mistakes' in my time, but I take your point." His smirk one was one part self-satisfied and one part completely intrigued by her and whatever she was capable of. He wanted to see what her bloodlust was really like if he could manage to pull it out of her. He usually didn't bother with this kind of overconfidence, but he also never got the opportunity to fight for real. He led both of them outside to a three hundred foot by three hundred foot area marked with fuuinjutsu seals to keep their attacks from leaving the arena. The chakra stored inside was derived from the Tenseigan, allowing combatants to reset the arena harmlessly after combat. Yoshinobu had a huge blade like the Executioner blade, but he dropped it off his back and onto the ground. He wanted to fight her a bit, hand to hand, but if she favored her blade, then he would draw his and they could see who the stronger swordsman was.
In any case, she offered him the first move, so he took his time considering his best route of attack. He didn't want to use any of his weapons to begin with; he felt it was best to get close and see how she would react to his hand-to-hand. He closed the distance between the two of them in an instant, throwing seemingly random punches and kicks while eighteen copies of himself surrounded her and mimicked his motions [ Downpour | S+ Simple / False Cyclone | S+ Complex (/Genjutsu) ]. He needed to test her reaction time and to know if she would immediately reveal the talents of her special blade.

tabOnce again Thresher raised her eyebrow as Yoshi put his sword in the ground. Hand to hand wasn’t her specialty, but it was better than those stupid Genjutsu other shinobi used. The scent of building chakra wafted through the air as the man went on his offensive. Quickly she would soon see how Yoshi fought as she was surrounded by multiple copies of him. Thresher took a breath and her body bulked up and, somehow, grew even taller. At the same time, water began to form around her body. It acted as an armor, protecting her from the series of blows from the various Yoshinobu. This is a form that has been forged by the creative efforts of older members of the clan who wished to adopt stronger abilities into their human-like form. The member of the clan using this ability will channel primal energy into their person, any animal like appendage they may have in their human form will grow larger, they themselves typically increase in size, they will grow other things such as longer claws, larger fangs, scales where there were not once scales, and anything fitting of their animal species while in their human form, while retaining most of their human-like features. They become capable of using jutsu through somatic motion or animal like vocalizations such as roaring and hissing. Their Taijutsu and Bukijutsu inflict 1 tier higher trauma than normal. And their stat caps advance by 1 stage, to a maximum of 10. Cap of 4 becomes 6, cap of 6 becomes 8, cap of 8 becomes 10. While in this form they are immune to muteness. To remain in this state requires an A Rank amount of Stamina per post. This cost can not be reduced except via Master Shifter -Requires B Rank to learn -Requires 5 Posts to learn

Target's stricken by this attack lose an activation during their next post, making it difficult to defend the following strike. This technique is executed at the rank of the target's body rank in order to life them off the ground.
▰ Blood in the Water [ Mizu no chi ] | Rank E The Hoshigaki, upon inflicting a wound upon a target that causes them to bleed, can track the scent of the target with exceptional voracity. They are able to continuously pay this cost per post to track them until they manage to mask their wound somehow, or travel through three different subforums, without using an activation.
▰ Contempt for the Weak [ Yowai hito ni taisuru keibetsu ] | Rank S+ The user can deal additional damage to an already wounded target by paying the cost of the technique they used that made contact with the target. Essentially, the attack that wounds the target is paid for twice. However, this does not cost an activation but does inflict any tiered status effect twice upon the opponent as the damage is doubled (as if hit twice in the same manner). This technique is only applicable to bukijutsu or taijutsu.

He channeled chakra around himself as well; the spiral of it deflected her attack, though he moved his arms with the spiral, channeling chakra there so he could absorb the effects of her attack as it met his deflecting chakra [ Tsunami Striking | Rank S | Complex / Spider's Fury | Rank S+ | Spiritual ]. He laughed like a free spirit, feeling removed from the mind games he had to play everyday with everyone who wanted something from him. He was excited to experience the adrenaline of a good fight, and Thresher was clearly more skilled than anyone he'd sparred with before.
He aimed an uppercut at her this time, hoping whatever he absorbed from her strike would force her backwards [ Rising Barrage | Rank S+ | Complex ]. "You're pretty good," he confessed with a wild look in his own eyes. His last dance with death had been unfair, he'd been caught off-guard by cowards and drugged and sealed and tied up like cattle. His heart was racing as they both moved in the battlefield, wishing he had been able to give the traffickers a piece of his mind like this. "I kind of wish we were having a sword fight instead, though."

Should the user strike an incoming chakra based attack, the effects of whatever technique was launched at the user are drawn in and absorbed by the Tsunami Strike, allowing the user to strike the target with a physical strike augmented with their own technique.
▰ Spider's Fury | Rank S+ | Spiritual The user floods their attacking limb with chakra in unison with a simple or complex technique for no additional activation. For each rank of this technique, the user creates five illusory copies of the attack that stem from the user's real body. Each of these attacks are indecipherable from the original unless in possession of sensory techniques or dojutsu able to discern chakra. I used this to equal resource for your Contempt for the Weak technique, since I'm absorbing that as well? or if CftW isn't applied unless you MAKE contact, then I can edit bc I obviously won't be absorbing that and I'll just be deflecting Floating Smash.
2. ▰ Rising Barrage | Rank S+ | Complex carries Floating Smash/Contempt for the Weak effects The user launches a swift uppercut to the opponent which is replicated by mirror images that follow the user to replicate the attack time and time again. For each rank of the technique, the user's uppercut is replicated a single time [ 6 after images], sending the opponent flying ten feet into the air per rank of the technique. A shockwave is created from this technique when used at A Rank or above which sends opponents within a ten foot radius of the user flying the distance the targeted opponent is thrown skyward.

tabThose afterimages were starting to get annoying at best and troublesome at worst. Thresher watched Yoshi counter her strike and immediately return to the offensive. Which was just fantastic. In fact he even went so far as to send, more or less, the same exact move that she’d done. Thresher, however, took it on the chin, Yoshi’s fist sending her into the air by a few feet. With a rotation in the air as she returned, Thresher would slam her leg down towards Yoshi’s head with enough force to shatter the ground. [Absorb and Redirect A>>S+ Simple]
After she landed, Thresher would push through the pain of Yoshi’s strike and spin forward. She would swing her arm out to slam the back of her hand across the man’s face. [Spinning Backfist Rank D>>S+ Simple] Regardless of hit or not, she’d stand in place and slip her hands into a more casual stance as she eyed the man’s movements. “Ya say tha’ but I ain’t the dummy that stuck m’sword in th’ ground, now am I?” Thresher replied before spitting blood onto the ground at her feet. “If’n tha’s how ya feel, then show yer sword some damn respect, git it outta th’ ground, an’ give it a fight it deserves.”

Yoshinobu put both of his hands up defensively at her remark about the swords, one side of his mouth pulling up into a smirk as if tugged on a string. "Hey now, no one said you had to put your blade down, but I did say I was formidable without a blade, and you'd have said something if I'd held onto it all fight, too. Guess a guy just can't win around here." He shrugged as if performing on stage, but this wasn't the kind of act he pulled everywhere else. He was almost giddy at their fight, feeling more in his body than ever before as his blood pumped through his adrenaline-riddled system. However, he took her advice on grabbing his blade, flickering back to it to grab as she spun in the air [ Body Flicker | E ].
He pulled the eight foot blade out of the ground, brandishing it as if it weighed nothing. He took a specific stance, eyes never leaving Thresher as he did so [ Storm Cutter | Rank S | Complex ]. "Why don't you show me if that blade carries you in combat or not." His tone could have easily have been mocking, and likely would have been against anyone else, but his excitement throughout the fight so far made the comment far more genuine and intrigued than demeaning.

ok i dealt with the dialogue before the combat in my post but taking things out of word bc of inspo and pizzazz is the ghostfinch brand... just like using body flicker
also the feminine urge to continue using absorb + redirect kind of attacks until we've stacked -18 stats and 24 stacks of t4 trauma
also also flickering away from the first attack puts him out of range for the second so its ok to refund that, not that i've been counting resource this fight. (but thresher has way more resource than he does so i plan to have him tire out in the next few posts anyways; i can edit to count resource if you're wanting to put this as a spar on thresher's profile tho!)

This technique is able to clear up to one hundred feet of distance to land this attack, leaving a deafening sonic boom that causes everyone within the topic to be pushed back fifty feet if they are not the target of the user's attack, uprooting structures and plantlife alike as it mimics a powerful storm.

tab“Wouldn’t’ve been fair, since ya put yer sword down.” Thresher replied while rubbing the back of her head. Truth be told, she was more interested in seeing what Yoshi could do with that monstrous blade he carried anyway. “Not really lookin’ t’pummel ya that badly.” Thresher wasn’t in a rush to finish this sparring match too quickly. Something was still bothering her about the scent the man before her gave off. She couldn’t place her finger on it, but the more they fought the more the sharkgirl would be able to figure it out. Additionally, it’d been a while since she’d gotten to let loose, so Yoshi giving her the chance to do just that was a blessing.
As Yoshi drew his sword from the ground, Thresher unhooked Kabutowari from her back. She gripped it by the cord and spun the weapon above her head with enough strength to kick up a gust of wind, before she brought the weapon down into her hands and fell into a stance. [Devastation Stance C>>S+ Simple] “But if you ain’t gonna take advantage of yer lead, then I hope yer ready for me to turn th’ tides.”
The Jonin’s arm flashed as she tossed the axe portion of Kabutowari at Yoshi, bringing the giant blade down to cut across his midsection from a range. She’d follow it in a blur of motion, striking the back of the axe with the hammer portion, shooting her attack with a combination of speed and a forceful shockwave. [Dividing Cleaver D>>S+] Chakra burst from the back of Kabutowari’s hammer as Thresher came crashing down. Her arms flexed and she let out a roar as she brought the massive mallet down towards Yoshi with enough force to shatter the earth beneath them should she miss. [Spiraling Meteor B>>S Overwhelming] Thresher would hit the ground and press her attack, dragging the hammer through the ground as she swung it up at Yoshi. [Rising Fissure B>>S Overwhelming]

Yoshinobu snorted when she mentioned fairness. In his experience, the world was rarely fair. Still, none of it wiped a smile off of his face. "Don't wanna pummel me, but I've got an advantage, a lead?" He chuckled. "I'm getting mixed messages. Who do you think's gonna come out on top?" His storm cutter technique cut through the beginning of her attack and outward; he was thankful the seals around their battlefield kept him from destroying more property. However, the gratitude was short-lived because Thresher wasn't finished. She brought her weapon downward and he jerked backwards with eyes like saucers in a universal 'oh s**t' reaction, launching his blade forward into the ground to take the hit instead of himself, producing a chakra blade copy of it in the same motion [ Iron Wind | S+ Simple / Dull Blade | S+ Spiritual ]. It generated a concussive blast, but Thresher's sword had already made contact with his blade and chakra blade seamlessly, bringing the weapon around again to strike the ground. While his technique could absorb some of the blow, it couldn't deflect all of the force she hit the ground with.
His legs gave as he tried to get additional distance between himself and Thresher, falling on his back and feeling nauseated by the jello-ification of his legs. He scrambled to get back up with a groan, feeling bruises develop up from his feet through his shins and knees from absorbing the impact. The first strike had been harrowing against his blade, but her second strike shattered his giant blade into pieces. His eyes were still wide as he took in the scene and the shattered earth he now stood in. Thank all the powers that be that he hadn't tanked a hit from her directly. "Well," he said a little shakily, "I didn't want to fight with that anyways!" He laughed to cover up his breathlessness, channeling healing chakra to his hands in order to feel his legs and diagnose the depth of the damage [ Diagnosis [ Shindan ] | Rank E / Genjutsu (check spoiler) ]. He hoped she wouldn't drop her sword because he was without his. "I have other weapons to fight with, and I'm willing to prove myself. I need that sword craftsman to fulfil my vision."

Yoshinobu didn't straighten up immediately, even though he laughed at Thresher's flustered response. He wasn't sure if it was a play before she made a move on him, but he eventually realized she wasn't going to throw another swing yet. He slowly settled as he considered what she said. "What I'm gonna do with it? Preferably, fight." He raised a brow at her, feeling a little exasperated at the question. What else would he do? But his exasperation immediately sobered as she mentioned feeling something was off with him. He held his breath for a few heartbeats before he released it, putting on a different mask altogether. Combat was over, so it was time to be Yoshinobu the trafficking survivor instead of... whatever free spirit he'd been while they sparred.
"Um, well. I'm still adjusting. To the village. I was taken by one of the trafficking rings Arashi's been lousy with." He laughed self-deprecatingly, comparing the village to a dog with fleas, summoning a ridiculous image while knowing he was taken out by such a pathetic parasite. He did feel pretty useless after being kidnapped and almost sold. "I'm trying to get back into the swing of things," he confessed earnestly, and at least that was completely true. "I'm still figuring who I am and what I'm doing. It really screws with your sense of self, being taken like that. It was cowardly." His expression darkened. "They didn't give me a fighting chance. Caught me with my pants down, as it were, and sealed up my chakra. I was... I was cattle." He paused for a moment, clenched fists shaking, before he remembered that that kind of darkness wasn't going to serve him here. He broke the grim spell with a sharp, almost hysterical bark of laughter. His posture loosened up as he rested a hand on his forehead. "Anyways. I'm trying to be strong, so I never have to go through that again."
He rubbed at his arm, feeling like their conversation was weirdly cathartic for himself. "I would really appreciate a sword from you. I've got a lot of notes for one, but no skill to forge it myself. And I'd be happy to revisit this spar then, if you were interested... I had a lot of fun fighting, more than I thought I would have, like, ever again."

tabThresher crossed her arms after replacing Kabutowari to her back with a flourish. While Yoshi spoke to her, the woman kept her piercing gaze on the young man. Something still didn’t sit well with her. But, at the same time, she could tell he was being honest about his intentions. Everyone has their secrets, and it wasn’t Thresher’s business to pry more than she needed to. The Jonin got what she needed, which was a true judgment of the character standing in front of her. She didn’t mention it, but Thresher felt the same way he had about their spar. It had been quite some time since she’d gotten to let loose like she did. She missed it, and she didn’t even know until today.
“I’ll make yer sword.” Thresher decided on the spot. “I’m gonna be honest wit’ ya and tell ya tha’ somethin’ don’ add up wit’ ya. You’ve got a weird smell to ya. But. Somethin’ in my gut says yer alrigh’.”
“Arashi is my home now, too. So it’s my job to help protect it.” She explained as she held her hand out for the note Yoshi had on his sword. “An’ helpin’ ya fend fer yerself is better’n fightin’ yer fights fer ya. But, if I catch wind o’ you puttin’ th’ hurt on other folks tha’ live here, I’ll hunt you down m’self. Understood?”
Thresher would wait for a confirmation from the person standing before her before she would nod and walk off. “Meet me back ‘ere in a few days an’ I’ll have yer sword. And Yoshi?” Thresher turned her head over shoulder to give him a toothy smirk. “Make sure ya give ‘em hell when ya find ‘em. An’ don’t hesitate to ask fer help if ya need it. We look out fer our own ‘ere in Arashi.”
With that said, Thresher would arrive at her personal forging station. She slipped the instructions and notes down on a safe counter and read them over before starting creation on the giant blade, Harbinger.

▱▰▱ Surf or Swim | Walking on or submerged in water, Hoshigaki can dodge for one rank less in resource and their speed is boosted by [1] at E-C body rank and [2] at B-S+ body rank. They are also able to use bloodline techniques with somatic gestures.
▱▰▱ Sharkskin | When the Hoshigaki's blade makes contact with a target, they absorb chakra equal to the defense used. They can also start with an additional [2] bukijutsu styles.
▱▰▱ Aquatic Mastery | The user's suiton techniques may be doubled in size for no additional cost. This does not effect the strength of the user's suiton techniques. In addition, should the user's water ninjutsu or clan techniques interact with another suiton technique, the user's technique steals one rank of chakra from the opposing technique. If this overpowers the opponents technique, this technique continues on it's path normally.
▱▰▱ Can't be Tamed | The clan member is able to use bukijutsu while in half/beast mode, and natural weaponry (fangs, claws, horns) can be used, logically, in lieu of formal weapons. Their resourcefulness in beast form translates into their anthro/kemonomimi form, allowing them to use bukijutsu for one rank less cost (does not stack with other bukijutsu reductions).
▱▰▱ Unleash the Beast | The clan member is unforgiving in their strikes. Taijutsu techniques of the user may apply one tier higher trauma status at the following ranks. Yoshinobu held his breath when she said he smelled funny, but she moved on to explain he seemed alright, and from her, that felt like an extra weight off of his shoulders. He'd figured she was good people - and not in the stupid 'oh I trust my neighbor' kind of way, but in the 'this person could fend for themselves and tends to have better things to do than manipulate others' which was just cream of the crop in his book - but her validation made it easier for him to breathe. He didn't always know who he was, but he appreciated that she could tolerate whatever he was.
"Thank you." He was eager to have Harbinger made. The vision for the sword had come to him in between feverish dreams, and it'd taken weeks to manage to scrounge together enough details and specifications to make it a reality. It would probably give him some peace. "Right. We look out for our own."That's why I saved myself from being trafficked. The sourness he felt didn't make it to his face, which still showed some excitement about the blade. "Maybe I can really give you a run for your money next time. I'll see you around." He smiled and took his leave.
After leaving the market place Ariella made her way back to the academy to finish up the mission that had fallen upon her lap. Sure, the mission wasn't originally hers to start with but, a mission was a mission and she will see it to the very end. With the sword in hand, she entered the building and approached the reception desk."Pardon me. Could you point me to the direction to whom this sword belongs to? I was tasked with returning it." Calmly raising the sword Ariella would place it on the desk so that the woman could see. The receptionist was reading some files when Ariella had approached. And due to her interrupting the woman had to get to a good reading place before she would look at the sword."I believe that belongs to the instructor in room 3A." Ariella would smile warmly, as she normally does, and retrieved the sword from the desk followed by a polite bow."Thank you for your help."
Walking through the halls of the school she one attended her memory would guide her to classroom 3A. Lifting one hand Ariella would gently knock on the door and waited for the okay to enter the room."Come it." the voice from the other side of the door would say. Sliding the door open Ariella could see that the classroom was completely empty except for the instructor who appeared to be grading papers."Sorry to bother you but I believe this is yours." Holding up the sword Ariella would smile as she approached the man. The instructor had stood up from his seat with a smile of appreciation on his face. Grabbing the sword from Ariella's hands he confirmed it was indeed his sword. "This is it! Thank you so much! I would have searched myself but I needed to get back to my students at the time. Did you find out which students had taken it? He questioned. Clasping her hands in front of her legs Ariella would just smile."Apologize, I did not. I located the sword on the roof with no one around" She lied. Of course, she knew who had taken the sword, she saw their faces. But a deal was a deal and she promised to keep their identities a secret. You see, Ariella was a good liar. She was tried to be good at deception just as her parents trained her to do. 'A warm smile has various uses.' Is all they would say to her growing up. Want to convince people you are happy? That you are genuine? Naive? Innocent? Guilty? Just smile. A liar is also better backed up with a hint of truth to it. Something that has indeed happed. "Oh, alright. Well thanks a bunch!" he would say. With that, Ariella would bow before leaving the room and made her way back towards the enterance.
