Crocoite was leaning on his cane, watching his victim as they stumbled away from him, as if drunk, slamming into the side of a building before limping down into the alley. They blindly fumbled their hands against the wall, looking for purchase, for support, and not finding much besides the sturdy surface itself. They wobbled and slammed into the wall, taking a few more steps before sinking to their knees. The man was exhausted, confused, and bleeding quite heavily from his head.

Crocoite slowly followed him down the dark alley, coming to a stop behind him and tapping his cane rhythmically against the ground.

"Please, leave me alone!" the man managed to say, his voice breaking. Crocoite had already pulled quite a lot of energy from the poor fool, who had been a good target when the Negaverse Lieutenant spotted him jogging alone so late at night. Did people not watch the news here?

It was dangerous to go out after dark.

Crocoite's cane was smeared with the man's blood from the first, vicious crack that had knocked most of his senses out of him. The Nega took things slowly, letting his prey struggle and run, fully confident he would be able to finish the task at hand. There was a starseed to be had here, after all.

He put his foot on the man's back, pausing for a moment before shoving the man down to the ground. He whacked his chin on the un-identifiably wet alley ground, whimpering in pain and confusion but unable to get himself up right away.

Crocoite looked down at him, grinning.

Misplaced your tag for a few days there. D: here we go!

Caitlin had lost track of time again, and so found herself hurrying along in the dark. She was wearing practical shoes this evening, so it wasn't too much of a strain.

And, of course, knowing she could power up and deal with threats was quite helpful in her confidence of traveling at night. Still. Perhaps it was time to stop dragging her feet and get a car...

...Her thoughts on the topic were interrupted, however, but the sound of a terrified voice begging to be left alone. She weighed her options for a brief second, and then resolved to do something about it. Maybe it was a mugger. Although, in this town? Not likely.

She looked around, ducked out of sight, and powered up right there. Sure enough, there was a negaverse aura right near by. She quickly jumped and climbed her way up the building, just so that she could be in a position above the guy (in shadows, no reason to give a show, you know) when she called out sternly, "Okay, fun's over. Let the guy go."

Her position on a fire escape wasn't bad, but she was fully aware of the fact that she wouldn't be staying up here very long. But for the moment, a height advantage would be nice.

Crocoite snarled as he felt the aura approaching. It was very close when it appeared, though he had not managed to see anyone who might have transformed. That was a shame, as it would have been a nice little bit of information to have, knowing what someone looked like powered down. Maybe that would have broken the glamour that protected them, and allowed him to hunt any time.

It was a curious proposition. Maybe he would set about trying to figure out who some of these senshi were, so he could ruin their home lives as well.

No wonder Painite get such a kick out of stuff like this.

"Why don't you come down here and make me? I've no intention of letting this starseed escape of my own free will, after all. If you can rescue it, by all means, just try."

At least he could tell where the voice was coming from, by the aura and just how close it was to him. Senshi always spoiled the fun, but he supposed he had been waiting for one to show up and make things more interesting.

Hypatia weighed her options. This guy hadn’t done anything too permanent yet, and she’d figured out that most of these agents really have no idea what a given Senshi might do…which worked in her favor.

“’Just try,’ huh?” she asked in her carefully cultivated ‘talking down to the little people’ tone. “My, my. Such confidence.” She shook her head slightly, a small smile on her face, though she wasn’t fully convinced he could see her properly.

It mattered not. She put her hands together, and pulled them back apart, causing a glowing ball of water to form between them. That would definitely be visible, which was the point. She held it in her right hand and waved it airily. This ball couldn’t really cause any harm (aside from brief surprise if she managed to toss it into someone’s face), but he couldn’t know that. It was a glowing ball of something.

So maybe she was bluffing a little. Didn’t matter. Fighting was so…low class. For the moment, she waited, to see how he would react to this development. She decided she shouldn’t wait long… and would toss the ball at him (but intentionally miss) if he made a move toward her.

Crocoite saw the magic being used from the rooftop, snarling and stomping his foot down on the man's back. He was not sure if the water-looking orb was dangerous or not, but senshi magic could be impossibly frustrating even if it didn't cause pain. It could slow him down, or trap him, or do something stupid that would annoy him to no end.

He was not sure what was worse, really.

"Are you going to toss that down here then, little girl? You're too afraid to come down here and save this man, you just want to throw things at me? A White Moon imbecile would not risk the safety of a civilian with an attack like that, would they? Either you have no intention of throwing it, or it does nothing."

He grinned. He could take a hit, even if it hurt. Painite taught him how to handle brutal beatdowns, after all. But could this senshi risk hurting a regular human being? Better yet, could she risk not at least trying?

Moving slightly, Crocoite kicked the civilian hard in the side, forcing him to turn onto his back. He looked up at the senshi again, grinning ear to ear, but instead of attacking her he dropped down and forced his hand into the man's chest.

Bluff didn't work. Shame. Clearly this one is one of the more...resolute of the low level agents out there, she reflected, comparing this display to others she'd seen. It could be fun to toy with the enemy, of course, but when there was some poor sod's life in the balance, she found it considerably less fun. And this guy's grin told her that he clearly enjoyed this sort of 'game'...which might say a little something about how he worked. Time would tell how much she could guess...

She regarded him carefully, considering her next action...which was then decided for her; she didn't have much time to act on the agent's response...and, really, there was only one thing she could do.

"Oh no you don't!" she declared, slung her water orb at his face, and dropped down at him, intent to slam him away with a (hopefully) well placed heel. That water orb wouldn't do much than be a momentary annoyance, of course, her magic was healing, not attack...but perhaps it would be enough to put him off so she could land a hit.

Instinct told him to lift his arms and protect himself from the ball of glowing energy. Whatever it was, he was not going to let the senshi just get a free attack in. Except it did not seem to do anything at all, and he, as a result, dropped his guard against other things by focusing on it.

He felt the kick connect to his shoulder and he was wrenched backwards, sliding across the alley before he caught himself and leaped to his feet. He growled at her, but the angry look turned into a dangerous grin as he shook his head.

"Brave, but a mistake. Now you're in my territory. No more high ground."

What sort of magic was 'nothing', anyway? He did not know that it was meant to be healing based, and thus useful to allies rather than against enemies. He just thought that sometimes senshi got absolutely useless magic, which in turn made them even more pathetic than ever. He called his cane to his hand, holding it up so the crocodile head was facing, leering, at Hypatia.

"I suppose I'll have to settle for your starseed, then."

He charged forward, pulling his cane back and swinging for her head, his favorite thing to hit on an enemy. It always made a very pleasant sound.

There was something deeply satisfying about successfully pulling of a feint.

Of course, there's the slight issue of then having to deal with the fallout of having kicked an angry agent of chaos, and being really not that well trained in martial arts.

Her only response to calling her move a mistake was to give him a confident smile...which betrayed only a hint of worry at the suggestion of taking her starseed. "I think not," she retorted. Thinking on it was enough to cause her to almost miss the cane coming around, but she managed to get her arm up in time to keep it from striking her head. Still, the force of the blow was enough to knock her back a couple feet.

That'll leave a mark, she thought as she tried to shift her motion to go with the blow, and swing back around, low, swiping for the man's legs. A bit basic of a move, perhaps, but it might work.

Man, I could really use a proper weapon, she reflected.

Crocoite was satisfied with the force of the connection between his cane and her arm, though he would have liked it more if it were her head. He was not as satisfied with the way his cane rattled, cracking a bit and threatening to break. The next hit would probably do it, forcing him to banish his weapon for the fight.

He would have to be careful now, and make sure his next hit was a good one. A battle ending one, hopefully.

Anticipating her counter, he jumped back and just barely avoided her attempt to knock him off his feet. He kept his cane in hand, growling but not swinging just yet. It wasn't a clean shot, so he had to switch to his fists rather than his weapon for now. He charged close, though it was always dangerous to get in close to any fighter, opening himself up more to hits.

Anger fueled him, and he swing for her face: he was determined to get that head shot in no matter what, and his cane was aching for her blood. Sometimes, he liked to pretend he was feeding the crocodile that was grinning on its handle, though he would never say something so silly out loud.

Unless he had a good chance to sound really menacing and not like a crazy person, anyway.

There was only one goal here, as far as Hypatia was concerned: Get the Mad Hatter away from the guy on the ground. It wouldn’t be too hard, she figured, since he was clearly interested in kicking her a**.

Of course, step two: Don’t get killed. That would present somewhat more of a problem.

A bridge to cross later.

As luck would have it, her desire to back away worked quite well with backing up from a swing—and hid it well, too, as she leaped back with a small yelp of surprise. The thing came so close that she heard it swoosh through the air.

She didn’t dare turn away from him, but quickly moved to recover her balance by slipping further backward away, down the alley and away from the fallen civilian.

“Not fast enough,” she declared to him, her practiced confident smile once again on her face.

Now was the time he grew jealous of his teacher's higher skills on the battlefield. She had the ability to just teleport to catch up to anything that ran away from her. She used it to her advantage, in fact, and loved just appearing in front of them or behind them, depending on what would cause the most terror.

He had to just run and flail and sometimes just hope his prey tripped and made things easier for him.

"Crocodile's only need to be fast when they strike," he growled, not enjoying being taunted. He was a very prideful man, after all, and his ego was the source of all his success so far. He would have to get used to younger people, generally a lot of teenage girls as far as the white moon was concerned, teasing him.

For now though, it still made his temper flare.

"What is it with you lot and running away? Scared of a real fight? I assume you're simply weak. In that case, I at least applaud you for risking showing your face. I look forward to smashing it in with my cane." As he stalked forward toward her, he took a swing with his cane, aiming for her head again and hoping to stop her from backing away further.

"Assume all you--" Hypatia started, but had to stop briefly to rock back away from another swing at her face--she felt that one whizz by real close. "All you want," she concluded. "I'm not gonna explain myself to you!"

Dodging the swing did slow her briefly, but the plan seemed to be working, at least... She glanced up and around. Maybe turn this into a rooftop battle...would be much worse if she got hit at the wrong moment, but the poor guy over there would definitely be out of the way.

Therefore, before croc man had a chance to wind up another swing, she leaped up, snagging a high fire escape with one hand, and bringing out another glowing orb of water with the other. Maybe this can make the hand-holds all wet, make him fall, she was thinking.

Crocoite frowned as the senshi managed to get up to a fire escape, gripping his cane in one hand and waving it at her. He growled angrily, pointing it in her direction after a moment of rage.

"Get back down here, you little brat!"

He did not see her summon another water ball, and leaped toward the fire escape as she ran up it. He banished his cane for now, not needing it to impede his progress up the ladder, and began to climb up after her. He fell right into her trap, as simple as it was, and his grip slipped on the watered down ladder rails. He fell back down to the alley, landing hard on his back with a rush of air escaping his lungs violently.

Embarrassing. Painful. And enough to make him furious.

"I'll KILL you, if I get my hands on you!!!" he yelled, getting to his feet slowly. He was already starting to think that maybe he was too old for this. Was that why the White Moon recruited kids?

Underestimating your enemy is always a surefire way to get ********>, Hypatia thought to herself...and decided against telling this guy that. Still. She laughed aloud at his obvious frustration. Using up one of her healing orbs was completely worth it.

Since her objective was still to help the man on the ground, the senshi stayed up on the rooftops, beating a hasty retreat but not getting to a spot to power down.

Rather quickly, she made it to the next building over (directly away from the alley this had started in), and looked back, hopefully looking like she was checking that she got away. Truthfully, though, she wanted to make sure he did follow.

Crocoite was more than a little unhappy. He was going to have so nasty looking bruises in the morning, for sure, but more than that he had not succeeded in his ultimate goal of proving his worth to the Negaverse. In fact, he had managed to embarrass himself and look like an incompetent idiot, which was basically the antithesis of everything he was striving for.

It sat like a cold weight in his chest, even as the blood in his veins pumped hot with his anger. He looked up toward the senshi that had gotten the better of him tonight, snarling at her shadow.

The hunt was on.

As a hunter, he understood when the need to retreat arose. At the very least, when it was time to change tactics, let his prey gain some distance, some comfort, and strike again when it was least expected. He did not follow as the senshi ran off to another roof top, growling lowly and instead slinking into the shadows. He'd let her have this night, but he was not about to let it slide.

No, he had a new prey now. And he would not be satisfied until he had his revenge.
