Henry's When I Grow Up RP

Magic was no stranger to the people of Below. Great sorcery was used for a many daily chores and its use was viewed as a necessity to most in this realm. Every race from Geists with their ghost like tendrils to Demons with their stereotypical horns and spaded tail knew of magic and each had their unique talents. Perhaps that’s why a small Geist boy named Henry was treated so differently from all the rest of the children at the Academy he attended. You see, this child lacked a firm understanding of magic and it was his inexperience that cost him a normal childhood.

Despite his deficiency in magical abilities Henry acted as though he weren’t any different from the children in his classes. He enjoyed coloring, did his best written and spoken assignments, but none of that could make up for that vital absence of magic. He tried so hard to befriend other students but he had the worst luck. You see, none of the other kids wanted to be burdened with a non-magic friend. At least, that’s what his parents thought.

Whenever Henry came home from the Academy to spend holidays with his mother and father it was always hard for them to hear Henry crying in his room. Sure, it was difficult not having friends but on top of that he was picked on. That was why he always begged to stay home and not return to his schooling because he feared if he did the children would remind him of everything he hated about himself. What choice did his parents have but to return Henry back to school after having a very firm talk with the headmaster. It was required for all young Nightmares of Below to attend the Academy. From this point on Henry would always have a personal caretaker to watch over him and keep him from being a victim of bullying.

Surely, this would put an end to Henry’s worries, right?

It was a week or so after classes started back up and Henry thought his troubles were for the most part behind him. This couldn’t be further from the truth sadly. It was a beautiful day outside and the young Nightmares were taking part in a water day. This was where they would be provided with water balloons, sprinklers, and any other tool to keep them cool during this blistering heat. Henry wasn’t participating due to none of the other children really wanting to interact with him even despite not wanting to tease the poor magic-less Geist.

“Ms. Maggie,” the young boy spoke up while his piercing green eyes observed the way his crayon colored within the lines of a printed outline of a flower, “do you think I’m weird?”

“Weird? Now, Henry, why would you ask me such a peculiar question?” She knew very well why he was inquiring about such a thing. After all, it was why she was assigned to watch over him one on one while everybody else had a bit more freedom. It was for the young Geist’s protection mostly and to keep peace of mind. “I think you’re one of the most delightful and enthusiastic children here. That is why you and I do everything together. We’re friends, little one.” Sure, it was her job to keep a close eye on him and to keep the other’s at bay but Henry truly was a sweet child she didn’t mind spending time with. He was always respectful and such a curious little thing.

Henry continued to his coloring, not wanting to lift his eyes off the paper because he didn’t want to make it too painfully obvious that he had become a bit bashful due to her kindness. Without Ms. Maggie he would have been so lonely here at the Academy. Just as he was about to thank her for such uplifting words there was a great big splash! Someone had sent a water balloon flying right into the picnic table and it drenched the papers that had been so beautifully decorated with Henry’s coloring skills. Maggie gasped as she tried to pick up what she could manage. A lot of his work got ruined from the water damage however. “Oh, Henry. Don’t be upset. We can always color more pages. I will be right back with a towel and some more paper, alright, darling? Sit tight.” With that the caretaker rose from her seat to go and try and lift Henry’s spirits once again. It was her job, but more importantly her moral duty.

Henry was left by his lonesome, which was a bit nerve wracking on his part. He had good reason to be nervous too, because that water balloon hadn’t just came flying out of nowhere. After the chipper caretaker ran to fetch more supplies up came a pair of faces that were all too familiar to Henry. A young Geist that was slightly older than Henry himself and a stocky looking Demon who was much taller than any of the children in their classes. He had to of been held back or something. Henry’s eyes flicked down at the other’s hands filled with water balloons. Now that they seemed to have chased away the boy’s nanny they seemed to have plans. “Beau, you better knock it off. Ms. Maggie is going to be back any minute and you and Cole are going to be in trouble when she finds out you threw it on purpose.”

“We’re only trying to play with you,” Beau spoke up with a glint in his eyes and his buddy gave a deep chuckle before throwing a water balloon right at the young Geist’s face. Water balloons began to pelt the boy over and over again until finally another caretaker had come upon the scene and immediately grabbed Cole and Beau by their ears and dragged them off for who knows what sort of punishment for their unprovoked assault on the poor boy.

Why had it taken so long for a caretaker to notice? How come Henry was left there crying as he was dripping with water, all alone and humiliated. It was then and there that he realized what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to be the person who stood up to bullies like Cole and Beau. Perhaps a law enforcement who put jerks them in their place.
