-The message had be so cryptic he almost asked his father if it was a good idea. But the warning about not letting him know...Was he an idiot for actually heeding that part of the message?
Of course, the biggest question he would alter ask himself, was why he followed the instructions. Perhaps it was because he was used to not questioning anything Diomed asked of him, but soon he found himself making his way to the specified meeting point, clutching the printed out email in his hand. Alone, as per the instructions, and a backpack slung over one shoulder. Filled with a lunch for two, some of his favorite and only toys, and, as instructed, one change of clothes.
It was almost idiotic how closely he'd followed the message's instructions. He didn't even know who he was meeting except for 'justicerains'. No name, no indication of what they looked like, no way of knowing that he was going to be alright.
It beat waiting for Diomed to come home. 170

-Would this even work? Sure, she'd found out the kid's email address by doing the barest bit of snooping, but she had no way of knowing now if Diomed had been looking through the kid's messages. It wouldn't surprise her, and as she sat at the cafe table, legs crossed and sipping from her steaming hot cup of coffee, she wondered if she hadn't just gotten the kid in trouble.
But no. Soon enough she saw a small, winged figure approaching her. At first glace, she could hardly even think such a cute kid could have been taken in by her depraved essence-donor, he was so...bright. So pretty. And dare she even say, cute? As soon as he got closer, though, she could see why. Her inital impression of the kid being a mix of Fallen and Bakeneko was correct, but his eyes alone betrayed another heritage; Litch. And it made her heart sink. Just that alone was an explanation.
"Zydrate?" She asked when he got close enough.168

-Wow.
There was absolutely no second-guessing who the young woman was related to, and Zydrate felt a prickle of fear go down his spine. Aside from her golden slit-pupil eyes, and the rattle on the tip of her tail, she looked scarily similar to Diomed. Her dual pair of horns...they were identical. Same shape, same color. But...her hair was curious. It was similar to his own, and he wasn't sure how to feel about that except for 'looks cool'.
Still, something in her voice and the way she said his name calmed him. Not to mention...her shirt. Oh man, her shirt alone gave him a little smile. Though he was expecting somebody with no sense of humor, she had to be better than Diomed if she could walk around with that on.
"Y-yeah?" He replied as he approached, looking up at her. "Are you 'justicerains'? Uhm, I got the message but, you didn't...tell me your name...You know mine though?" That...struck him as odd, now that he thought about it. How did she get his name? His email? What was going on? 181

-"Dianthe. But, Dia works." Uncrossing then re-crossing her legs, she pointed to the chair across from hers, indicating that he should sit. "Sorry you got no information, Zydrate. Had to make sure daddy dearest didn't catch wind of this."
At once she was pissed, sad, and happy. Zydrate didn't know who she was, which meant Diomed never talked about her, at least not to this kid. this meant that either he didn't consider her important enough to talk about...or he'd forgotten her existence. Either way, it made this job a hell of a lot easier, if not less fun in a way. No need to hide much from the kid, and no real need to keep things that close to the chest.
"Let's...get down to business. I want to get you away from Diomed. I know that you aren't having any quality of life, and a familiar would be treated better than you are." Man, this plan sounded crazier when she actually explained it out loud. "I'm not gonna adopt you or anything, but I live on my own right now, and can at least give you a comfy couch to sleep on. Fresh food, outdoor exercise...Make sure you get to school every morning."
By the nine she hoped he wouldn't turn tail and run.215

-Taking a seat in the chair and barely glancing at the menu printed on the placemat, he listened. So Dianthe was one of Diomed's kids? It made sense of course, but he didn't ever recall her name coming up. The 'Ko' kids did, and so did the 'lost stone'. But nothing beyond them at all. And with how similar she looked, and what he knew of why Diomed imbued so much, surely he'd be proud of her? Never release her from his sight?
The more she talked, the more Zydrate understood. She was angry, the same way he felt angry sometimes. Dianthe had just happened to be able to run away, unafraid of the consequences. There was a reason Diomed hadn't talked about her, he guessed, and he hung on her every word.
"...But, what if he finds out?" Zydrate turned his head this way and that, looking around the little shopping square as if Diomed would appear from nowhere. It was early enough in the morning that hardly anyone was around, and the cafe they were at was just starting to emit that delicious fresh-bakes-bread smell. "What if...what if he comes to get me?" the thought of that was terrifying. Diomed wasn't the screaming type of angry, when he was. He was the too-calm, smoldering type. And that was more terrifying than a raised voice.226

-Zydrate hadn't turned tail and run, and while he considered her words, the waiter came by. Ordering another coffee for herself, she ordered a glass of milk for the younger one at the table. She could only guess as to his dietary habits, he was so scrawny. Sure, she wasn't well off by any means, but nutrition was something she kept a close eye on for herself. It was doubtful that Diomed gave a ******** about what Zydrate ate.
But his concerns were to be addressed first. Telling this kid that she'd kill Diomed before he let him take him back seemed a bit harsh, but just trying to wave things away like it wouldn't happen was as bad as lying. But besides extreme violence, she had no plan for if Diomed DID try to track the boy down.
"I'll admit, I don't have that fully planned yet." She admitted, crossing her arms and leaning back in her seat. "All I can do is keep you safe for now. If it comes to that situation, I'm sure I'll have something planned by then." 183

-On one hand, she sounded confident enough. On the other, she just admitted to not having a fully fleshed-out plan. Shifting in his seat a little, he tried to ignore that part but...it was such a glaring flaw in this entire situation he wasn't sure he wanted to stay here.
"I dunno, Dia..." He used the shortened form of her name hesitantly, as if scared she would become angry at him for using it. when she showed no sign of doing so, he continued. "I...I think I can trust you enough to leave, but...if he comes after you- after me- and you don't have a plan? What if we get hurt?"111

"We're assets to him, Zydrate. He may not remember I exist, but I'm still here, I'm still part of his...eugh...legacy. And you? He's put too much time and effort into you to do anything to endanger your life. That's why I'd have time to come up with a plan."
Gesturing for him to drink his milk as it arrived, she took a sip of her new, hot coffee before continuing.
"He'd have to come up with a way to get you. And me, I guess. If he wanted to put that much effort into it, it'd take him a while to come up with how. Worst comes to worst, we'll just call the authorities."
"I know it's not exactly what you want to hear." she sighed. "But it's better than...what's happening right now."126

-Though she was speaking truth upon truth, he still couldn't shake the feeling that something else, worse, could happen. Knowing what Diomed was like, it was not impossible to imagine him over reacting and doing something that would be super illegal. Though, Dianthe seemed to know what she was doing. And, again, she was comforting in a way, with her confidence and voice...
"...Alright. But, I don't...I don't want to impose." Digging through his backpack, he picked out a small pouch, offering it to her. "I haven't saved much, but...I think I have enough to pay for some food? A-at least some snacks?"103

-The moment Zydrate agreed, Dianthe downed her coffee in two gulps. Gathering up her little satchel by the chair, she placed both enough money to cover the bill and the tip, and gently pushed the little pouch offered to her back his way.
"I wouldn't offer this if I couldn't afford it, Zy. I have enough for the both of us, and a saving account just in case we find my brothers and sisters soon. I have a room for you to sleep in, a decent sized apartment and...Well, I might have a house in the talks. It'll be a while, but it'll be fine. And, yanno, if you wanna strike out on your own at some point, you can. I'm not gonna keep you holed up forever."
A smile was offered to him as she stood up, offered her hand and nodded.
"It's like starting over. Only better."149
