Malikah usually was not one to inch out of his seat, sliding ever so closer and closer to the door. He was eager today though and slightly anxious, both wanting to make sure Avelyn didn't end up waiting for him or worst, think that he wasn't going to show. He had taken care to make sure most of things were in his bag already so he had no additional pit stops to make before heading to the dormitory entrance.
The moment the bell buzzed he was on his feet, not waiting for his teacher to politely dismiss them as he usually did. Pulling his tail in front of him, Malikah walked as briskly as he could without getting trampled or losing his own things.
He was out of breath as he turned the final corner, his cheeks a bit flushed from the hot pursuit he made. Slightly frazzled from his own frenzy, Malikah immediately took up post in the safest corner, clutching his school bag in front of him as he looked around between puffed breaths.

Class couldn't end fast enough. Avelyn watched the clock constantly in between working on her assignment. She didn't think Malikah was the type to leave her hanging so she calmed her anxiety on that... But what if his family didn't like her? Or what if she did something stupid and everyone thought she was dumb? The bell rang. Avelyn pushed all her stuff into her bag and got up to meet at their meet up.
Getting there was interesting to say the least. She was across the school and had to dodge several other students without her tail being trampled. Why did it have to be this nuts everyday! Couldn't people just... Watch where they were going?
When she finally made it to the meeting spot, she looked around for Malikah. It was hard to miss him. She smiled, moving closer to him. "I'm here." She told him, happy to see him. Her heart pounded as she thought of the day, nervous about meeting his whole family.

Among the sea of eager students wanting to head home, Avelyn did blend in. She startled him, causing the hybrid to roll up onto his tiptoes. "Hey, you found me," he informed with a grin, easing himself back down. Clutching a hand around his backpack strap he shuffled over to give her some space out of the main line of traffic.
"We need to take the train down a few stops," Malikah explained, "and then it will be like a twenty minute walk to my house. Does that sound okay?" He wanted to make sure that she knew what she was getting into, especially after she had shared with him that she had never left before. "We could still take a portal if you wanted but the train honestly isn't that bad. A lot of people leaving work about this time."

Avelyn smiled to him, nodding in reply to finding him. She hadn't meant to scare him, she honestly would have expected him to spot her... Then again, there was a lot of people. She moved closer to him, not wanting to get lost and have him leave without her. The hybrid touched Malikahs arm, trying to keep close as a group moved by them.
As the kids cleared out some, she sighed with relief. "Hmm.. I don't mind either way. If you want some time to hang out before I meet your family then we will take the train. If not, we can use the portal... Either way, I'm just happy you invited me over." She told him, pulling her stuff close.

"Let's take the train," he decided after a heart beat. While he had no business judging what the girl should and should not be comfortable with, at least this way he could take the time to tell her more about his family and other things. They had just reconnected that morning after all.
Malikah did not flinch at the touch and simply smiled warmly instead. "Well let's hop to it then. The train station is pretty close by but we still have to make it before it leaves." Only pausing long enough to make sure she wouldn't get left behind the fluffy junior set out, making a perfect beeline for the Academy's large doors. "Have you at least been that far before?" he asked curiously, taking the steps outside one-by-one. He paused at the bottom.

Avelyn nodded to him, "alright, sounds good to me." She told him, moving to follow him. "Let's go then! Wouldn't wanna Miss it!" She agreed, smiling as she took off behind him. Her heart pounded with excitement even though she was also super nervous. This way... She could get to know him more, privately.
She followed him down the steps and laughed again, "Yeah. I've been all over campus... Just never outside of the school grounds... Well, other than field trips." She explained, moving beside him. "I'll be okay. Promise." She smiled to him, rearing to go.

He nodded at her assurance, not going to second guess her. Their time crunch made Malikah's focus a bit concentrated, and he worked on parting the sea of Nightmares and Daydreams. The closer they got to the station the thinner the others became and slowly he loosened up as he fished around his bag.
"So what are you roommates like?" the hybrid asked curiously as he handed over his bus pass to the lady behind the counter, quietly handing over additional change to pay for Avelyn's ticket too. The Imp thanked the attendant and smiled as he turned around, pushing his bangs out out of his face. "Train should be here pretty quick so we can talk over by the platform," he encouraged, tightening his grip as his bag.
"I share my room with two of my siblings, but Raa isn't home much anymore so I'm just with my brother Anubis. He's very chill," the boy offered to start the conversation, finding them a spot to stand. In the distance there was a rumble as the carriage approached and knowing they had gotten there with time to spare eased his anxiety some.

Avelyn followed through the sea of others, trying her absolute best to stick close to Malikah. He looked focused and determined, if she got left behind.. she wasn't sure he would notice. She felt much better when the crowd thinned down and she could easily see and keep up with her friend.
The hybrid tried to think of a nice way to say that her roommates we're complete bizzniches. "Well... I have three others.. all girls and all wicked mean." She settled with, "these girls take my stuff all the time... Two of them are nixies... They are hard to get along with. The other is a imp and chimera hybrid. She is nicer than the others unless she didn't have her coffee...." Avelyn pursed her lips as she watched him pay for her, ".... Distracting me so I wouldn't pay?" She smiled, teasing Malikah. "If we stop by a store or something... I can get us a snack." She offered as they made their way to the platform.
She frowned some, "How come he doesn't come home often?... I bet you miss him... I'd miss my sibling, if I had one." She expressed, "Anubis? Your family sounds really unique." She smiled to him. It must be really nice to have people who love you... People who take care of you for more than obligation reasons. "You're pretty lucky"

"They sound pleasant," Malikah commented sarcastically. "Do you get a chance to transfer when we move into Senior year?" He asked curiously, almost wanting to provide her a rescue. "You shouldn't be forced to live with sucky people if it's the school's fault your stuck here." The hybrid screwed up his nose.
He relaxed some as the conversation drifted back towards pleasant territory. "Well, there are a ton of us so we all contribute something different," he chuckled softly. "My brother Raa was infected so he's distant a lot. It's easiest to let him be." Malikah frowned slightly inching closer to the edge of the platform as the train got closer. "I wouldn't say lucky, more like a blessing and a curse!"

Avelyn shook her head, "they've been my roommates since we were freshlings.. so I doubt I'd get to change rooms." She had already requested several times but since her situation was severe, it was never really consideres by the school. She agreed with Malikah though, why should she be stuck there?
Listening to Malikah talk about his family was nice. It did make her want one more though. She frowned when she heard that raa was infected, "easier?... But not best. I can only imagine how he must feel.. I read a lot about the whole infected thing... He probably is feeling alone." She mentioned, "..you'd know him better though.. sorry." Maybe she shouldn't have voiced that opinion but... She felt for Raa in the sense that the only other person she started making friends with was infected too... They isolated themself because no one understood how they felt.
Avelyn dropped that subject, focusing on the train as it got closer, "I would consider it a blessing." She told him, "being alone is far worse." She explained, smiling to him. She wasn't alone anymore... She had Malikah.

"That isn't right. If we had room for you, I'm sure my parents would let you stay with us," Malikah grumbled. However, the train was here and as it came to a stop, the hybrid flashed their two tickets. Stepping up onto the platform, he turned to offer Avelyn a hand up. "All aboard!"
Leading the way he found them a seat that fit two among the crowd. He waited, gesturing to the spot. "You first, I've seen this ride a hundred times at least."
Waiting for her to sit, Malikah lingered for a moment before plopping down. "It's okay. Raa has seen a lot of people and we've all tried to help. Sometimes it's just the best to be there for a person even if they don't want your help," he shrugged a bit non-chalant. It clearly bothered him too but they had come to terms with the situation some time ago.

Avelyn was more than surprised that Malikah would offer to house her if he could. It actually meant a lot to her. She bet it would be way better living with him than living where she was now. Once the train arrived, she took her friend's hand and stepped onto the train. It looked interesting but she tried to not let the awe show. She followed her hybrid friend to where there was an open seat, smiling when he gave her the window. It was really thoughtful of him. Avelyn scooted to the window and looked outside. "Thanks, Malikah... that was really nice of you." She told him, looking to him so she could give him a nice smile. It didn't last long though. When he replied to her earlier opinion on Raa, her shoulders slumped some. She touched his hand and looked to him with empathy, "It must be hard for you.. and I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel.. so I am really.. really sorry I said anything." She told him, taking a small breath. Feeling awkward, she pulled out some lotion and applied it to her fins since they felt dry... likely from nervousness.

He shook his head, his long hair bouncing around his face. "Don't worry about it. It's been so long since everything happened, I think people forget sometimes," the hybrid responded unbothered, pulling his backpack into his lap. The train was already becoming quickly crowded, a count down chiming over the crystal speaker system.
The boy's expression softened as Avelyn went about tending to her fins, his lips pursed in curiosity. In reality, the other wasn't some specimen to examine but he was generally eager to know how the Nixie worked. In his head, he compared the sensation to dry skin and glancing way, he let her have her privacy back as the train began to lurch underneath them. "So, what do you think you will want for dinner?" the fluffy junior asked. "We usually have a little bit of everything, so whatever you're craving we can probably pull together," Malikah offered encouragingly, leaning back in his seat as he directed his gaze back towards her.

Oh good, he wasn't bothered by her comment. Avelyn finished applying the lotion, looking to him to noticed he had looked away. Not really putting much thought into it, she smiled to him. What did she want for dinner? She never really got to pick what she had wanted to eat before; it wasn't like the cafeteria catered to everyone's foody desires. She thought for a long moment before looking to him with a grin, "I'd really like to try something not greasy or breaded. The cafeteria serves pretty decent food but.. you know, it's the cafeteria." She explained, not having any particular desire for a certain dish. "If... that's okay?" She added, unsure how skilled he was in cooking. She looked back out the window curiously before looking back to him. "What is your favorite thing to eat?" She asked.
