Avelyn had been sitting by herself, reading one of her assigned books for class. Her assignment was to read up on her races and write a paper on them. She was reading up on the section of packs for grimms. It was all fascinating that they pack up the way they do. She had a small smile on her face until someone yanked her book up from her. Looking over to the culprit, she was faced with four grimms. "Can I have that back, please?" She asked but the grimm didn't listen. They looked at the book then started laughing, saying how it was cute that she was researching grimms and their packs when she wouldn't ever be accepted into one. Avelyn frowned, trying to grab the book back from them. Panda Moor Hope this is okay?... really hard to focus while receiving 8 million calls.

Malikah was roaming to say the least, stuck in a limbo of feeling obligated to be productive during his study hall and wanting to focus on his Malikah-centric interests. He still had much to do, including pinning down his exact interest in school. He was only a junior but graduation would be here before he knew it.
As he drifted into the quiet room with his school books reluctantly in tow, the commotion of students caught his eye. Apparently some had the same idea as him and didn't think studying sounded favorable either. The hybrid was ready to sit down and watch the situation from afar when the tuft of pastel pink and purple caught his eye. "Avelyn," he murmured to himself, wondering briefly what she had been up to lately. They had crossed paths before many moons ago and got on well, but like many moving through the grades was either a make it or break it for friendships, and they had lost touch as acquaintances do.
The sharp sound of glue breaking made him wince, the poor spine of the book screaming at the bullies waved it about. Malikah's nose instantly scrunched up, the bit of Cassie in his soul making him want to protect the text book at all costs. Avelyn's face was hard to read from this distance but whatever was going on wasn't positive. Dropping his bag to reserve his seat, the Imp/Fallen hybrid walked towards the five, his ear tufts twitching the slightest at the growing tension in his body.
"Avelyn!" the boy stated very clearly from beyond the sea of Grimm, his back awfully straight as he tried to rise to his fullest height. Simply put, he ignored their childish gestures, leaning up onto his toes to get a good glance of her. "I didn't know you had study hall with me," Malikah continued on, forcing the tone as if he was oblivious to the situation. The rising blush to his cheeks was most likely a giveaway, but he felt the need to rescue his finned friend.

Avelyn wasn't one to react to such behavior but hearing her book's spine tear a bit was enough to let out a soft growl. Of course what they were saying hurt too but there was no way she would let them know that... She'd deal with those emotions later, away from everyone. Just as she considered going to a teacher, she heard her name. She blinked curiously, looking to who it was. She didn't really have friends... so who would want to talk to her. Seeing the hybrid stand tall by her and ignore the others, she smiled softly. "Yeah. Just got my schedule changed around." She explained to him. The pack growled, annoyed that they were being ignored. The alpha threw the book on the ground and spit on it, spouting how filthy grimm hybrids shouldn't exist before walking off with his friends. Avelyn watched as they left, looking down and sighing. It hurt that she felt that they were right. She really didn't feel like she belonged anywhere.

Malikah stood his ground, letting the disgruntled Grimms move around him as if they were simply clouds in the sky. "Well, I'm happy that that happened," the hybrid informed warmly, jostled by one of the passing bullies as they clipped his shoulder. He shut his eyes at the sound of her text book hitting the ground, his hands curling into soft fists. He had been trying his best to remain patient but he had been worn thin to start with; he had no tolerance for this rudeness.
"Maybe next time you can pick up a book yourself," he ground out hastily as they reached the outskirts of hearing range, "you would be a lot more appreciate of the Nixie..." Malikah trailed off, eyes growing slightly downcast as the steam blew out of him rather quickly. With a heavy sigh he picked up her text book, making a bit of a grimace. "Do you have a page of your homework or something?"

Avelyn listened to Malikah stand up for her then pick up her book. "Oh.. Yeah." She snapped out of it to pull a napkin from her school bag and handing it to him. "I assume you wanted something like this?" She asked, assuming it was for the nasty spit on her book. The hybrid slowly inhaled and exhaled as she tried to push her emotions to the side. "Me too. I actually was looking for you... I mean.. Not like.. right now.. but sorta.. idly." She explained, "I was wondering if you wanted to maybe hang out sometime." She told him sorta bluntly. She wanted at least one friend and Malikah had been fun to talk to before... and now this.. She felt that he could even end up being one of the only people she trusted... Time would tell.

"That works," he confirmed, immediately affirming that her idea was much better than his own. Balling the napkin in his hand, he paused for a moment before gingerly removing the loogie from the book. He took his time, leaving the dirty napkin on the table once he was done. Gently he slid the book over to her with a smile.
"Oh?" he squeaked a bit surprised, his ear tufts wiggling in anticipation. Anxiously he looked over his shoulders making sure that none of the Grimms had doubled back or hung around. "We can sit together - like - right now?" Malikah offered, twisting his body to point beyond them where he had left his things. "I should probably grab my bag anyway," the hybrid informed with a soft sigh but he couldn't bring himself to move.
"Uhm," he stammered, feeling very intelligent. "But we can hang out elsewhere, sure." The junior offered a wider smile, letting Avelyn guide the conversation. They didn't need to acknowledge what had just transpired. "C-can I still get my bag though?" he asked sheepishly in the mostly empty room, moving to push his two-toned bangs back out of his face.

Avelyn watched him skillfully remove the nasty diseased spit from her book, making a face at the napkin before she accepted her book from the other. She smiled softly as he accepted her offer to hang out. He really wanted to hang out with her? "I mean... we don't have to hang out now.. but I would like to." She told him, looking over at his bag that was across the room. "Is there somewhere that you would like to study and hang out... I know our classes tend to gives us a lot of work... So I wouldn't mind hanging out and doing homework." She told him, rocking on her heals some.
Avelyn nodded to him with a smile, loving to see him smile too. "Of course! Wouldn't want to leave your stuff hanging around." She laughed some, covering her mouth with her paw. "I'm happy to hang out with you anywhere." She added.

A smile crossed his face easily, Avelyn's shy gesture warming him as she hid her mouth. "Well, there's a bit of study hall left," he reminded her, grabbing a fistful of his tail before wandering back to his things. With a oomph he pulled his bag onto his shoulder, hanging onto the strap as he glanced around nervously again. "Why don't we find somewhere else for now in case those bozo Grimms come back?" Malikah suggested with a bit of anxiety in his words, frowning slightly. "Whatever their deal was."
With a half gesture down the hall he began to walk, heading towards the lobby area outside the dorm entrances. It wasn't really chair and table, but the plush armchairs were inviting regardless if they studied or not. "My house is kind of crazy," Malikah admitted sheepishly. He vaguely remembered Avelyn having met his fluffy father before, but as far as he was aware none of his siblings had ever crossed paths with the Nixie hybrid. "So it's really hard to study unless you can drown out some extra noise. We do have a office though we could use," he continued to explain, the idea in his head picking up steam. Having a friend over sounded exciting - all of his siblings had a social life. He was almost eager to show that he did too. "My dads use it sometimes but I don't think they would mind if I texted them. Want to come by tonight?"
Tilting his head slightly, he pointed vaguely at Avelyn's school supplies. "What were you studying before?" Malikah asked curiously, plopping himself down in one of the chairs after taking care to tuck his tail up into his lap.

Avelyn had almost forgot study hall was a thing; she was more interested in Malikah then her homework. She gathered her belongings and gently placed them into her bag. Sliding it over his shoulder, she followed him to get his stuff, "Sounds good to me... I don't want anymore trouble." She agreed, not saying anything about what their problem was... because it was obviously her. The hybrid followed her friend down the hallway, walking beside him. Once they made it to their destination, she relaxed a bit. She quietly listened to him as he talked about his family and his house. She remembered meeting one of his siblings but couldn't recall if she had met any of the others. She did also remember what Malikah mentioned about his family as well so it wasn't too surprising when he mentioned that his house was crazy. It was crazy here at the dorms... but she imagined it was a nice sense of crazy to have a real home.. and a family. Her face tinted pink as he invited her over... Like a real friend would do. She'd never been off of campus before, she usually just stuck around and hung out with herself. It was nice to be invited somewhere. "Of cou--" She started to blurt out, covering her mouth. She didn't want to seem too desperate or something, "I would like that. Thank you." She recovered with a shy smile. She then watched as he sank into the comfort of one of the chairs, moving to sit as well. Once he pointed at her bag, she look down at it then back at him. "Oh. I have a paper due soon.. It's on the customs, beliefs, religions.... the social studies... of races. We had to select our race..." She looked down as her tail and paws before looking up to him. "in my case... races... and write a paper on them." She explained, "...I was reading about how grimms pack up together and become a unit.. That's when those grimms showed up." Her shoulders sagged some, "They are right though... I'm not a pureblood and I don't fit in with either race that I am... " She told him, sorta letting a bit of emotion out unconsciously. Once she realized it, she opened her bag and pulled out her books with a small smile, "There are other really cool things about grimms though... Like how they can transform! Even some hybrids can!" She told him, showing some excitement towards her new topic.

Avelyn's eagerness made him blink but he made no adverse comments; her eagerness made his ear tufts quiver slightly in lieu of turning pink. With an eye on the girl and the other on his phone screen, Malikah absently took his phone and typed out the short message to his family unit, phrasing it more as a fact than a question. He wasn't going to turn her down even if they said 'no.'
Admittingly, Malikah did not know much about Grimms other than the commotion caused moons ago at the school. He scooted forward slightly in his seat, dropping his phone into his bag as the deed had been done. "They're losers, regardless of their race," the hybrid informed a bit curtly, digging his claws into his opposing arm tuft. He massaged down to his skin nervously, trying to hide the annoying tick. Avelyn clearly didn't want to dwell but the scene still bothered him and his pure soul.
"I didn't know they could transform," he informed a bit airily, trying to picture the potential shape. Everything that came to mind was nasty with wicked teeth. He shook his head once, clearing the thought. "I think as a hybrid you have to be proud of the quirks you have," the boy informed a bit diplomatically, moving to tug on his ear. "Though I never really consider myself a Fallen. I don't have wings or the smarts," he laughed dryly, but there was a smile upon his face.
Reaching over, he gently tapped the cover of the book as he scanned the title. "I think I'm going to have this assignment too soon, my class is a little bit behind," he informed. "I would love to learn more about other species than my own, honestly. Imps are so boring."

Avelyn listened to how the other spoke of the bullies from earlier; it wasn't anything new to her. It obviously bothered him; she could tell when he grabbed at his other arm. She let it go for now, after all, she would much rather focus on him than them. It was interesting to her... When she met him before, she didn't remember him being so.. attractive. On top of that, he had such a kind loving heart. Even if he never liked her the same way, it would certainly honor her to be his friend. Reading; one of Avelyn's most loved hobbies. "They can but it isn't complete like it would be with Grimms...well, purebloods. I believe Kirin's can also transform." She thought for a moment, deciding she would read up on that later. Her face flushed softly when he told her to be proud of herself as a hybrid. She didn't like when he said he wasn't smart like a fallen would be, "...Smarts have nothing to do with your race... I think you are very smart." She told him, "As for wings... you have other really great traits." She added, pointing to his pretty ears and his soft fluff. She then smiled big, letting him see that she really did mean it. As he touched her book, she smiled again. "I love learning about all the different races." She agreed with him then frowning when he called imps boring. "Imp are not boring... I love imps. They way the care about one another is way better than any pack. They are also very crafty, strong and dexterous. Not to mention, the value their friendships just as much as the baphomets do... The things that imps can do magically is really cool too... There is no way that they are boring." She informed him, smiling softly.

He tilted his head some. Malikah wasn't actually sure he had ever met a Kirin before but it was an interesting fact nonetheless. His mouth parted as she complimented, hanging slack for a moment before he quietly laughed. "I guess, thank you," he responded a bit quietly. "Honestly, if you think I'm smart you should meet my younger brother Pyre. He wants to be a nurse and is wicked into study everything. He's a lot like my Mom," the hybrid brushed off, not feeling himself to be ahead of the pack in any department.
His claws went to his neck ruff, shaking his head. "Everyone always wants the fluff," Malikah teased gently, used to the Imp version of 'oh your hair is so interesting, can I touch it?' People just had to get their paws all over it. "I still think your fins are way cooler than feathers. Mine can break and stuff and grow in all weird sometimes when they molt."
Her words on Imps made him laugh though, drawing his legs up onto the seat, toes dangling just enough no one would call him out for having his shoes on the upholstery. "I swear there is more to me than my family," Malikah stated frankly, "but living with all sorts of Imp and Fallen, and I can tell you that those traits can go to heck real fast." He smiled softly, pulling his legs closer. "Maybe there is truth and fiction in some of that race stuff. We're all people."

Avelyn listened to what he had to say which was less about himself and more about his family. She wondered why he wouldn't talk about himself and would rather talk about his family... was he insecure too? It wasn't her place to really say anything more.. in her opinion. So she let it go, rubbing her neck. She was a little confused, she had thought that he was a pretty confident guy... but maybe not? "To be fair... I also love my fluff and I try to take extra care of it so that it is always soft... No one really bothers to touch my fur though." She told him, surprised people would just walk up to him and ask to touch him... Then again, he was pretty cute. She wasn't sure how she would feel if someone randomly walked up to her and asked to touch her. A small smile crossed her face at his compliment, "My fins are pretty cool... but they have a huge downside too... just like my tail... You may molt.. but my ears, tail.. and even skin sometimes really dries out and it is super painful." She admitted. "So I guess.. Both are cool and suck." She laughed some. "I know you are more than just your family and I know you really care about them too... But I do.. kinda want to get to know you... since you know.. we are all people and stuff." She told him, feeling like she made their whole conversation awkward.

He blinked in surprise, sighing a little as he leaned back in the chair. "I don't get it! Your ruffle is as good as mine, honestly," he frowned, almost wanting to get to the bottom of this clear double standard. Malikah quickly cleared his head though as Avelyn continued on, and watching her talk ethusiastically made him happy as she had made a quick 180.
"I suppose you have charms and ointments for your fins though," Malikah commented idly, just running through his brain what it might be like to have torn skin like that. He imagined it had to be itchy too. His idle smile turned into another small frown, more of a neutral expression as he tried to gather himself. "Of course Avelyn, ask away," the hybrid assured, suddenly feeling self conscious. "I could show you some of the stuff I like at my house tonight," the boy suggested warmly. "I share a room but I still have my own bit of space for things."
Letting his legs down, he kicked them a little. "A tit for a tat, I'll only share stuff if you do too. I want to know what you're into, not just what cause you pain," he teased, referring to her fins.
