"Captain Uvarovite, your presence is requested at the following coordinates. No danger, currently, but there is something odd here that I would like your opinion on." Tourmaline had found a perch in a tree nearby the obelisk, observing the oddities. At one point she'd powered down, just to see what would happen-- the obelisk had disappeared and she'd felt compelled to vacate the area. That urge was suppressed when she powered up again, and that was when she had sent out the call for Uvarovite. What she didn't know was that her message would come through garbled on his end, some of the words sounding vaguely robotic and jumbled. The only thing that came through clearly were the coordinates that would lead Uv to her location. For all that she wanted to get closer, she knew it was an unacceptable risk to do it on her own.

The crackling message that came though his speakers was a bit alarming. He recognized Tourmaline's voice and the only thing that stopped him from teleporting instantly was that her voice was calm. Whatever was causing the distortion at least wasn't something she was too worried about. HE took the time to put the youma he'd been working on back in it's cage and clear up his work table before telling Kaz he was leaving and teleporting near the coordinates. He got close enough that he could feel Tourmaline's signature and he could see a strange thing on the horizon. He knew the area well enough and there had never been a giant obelisk in the are. That was something the city would have loved using to drag tourists into the area. "Well, that is interesting."

"Interesting is one word for it, yes." Tourmaline lingered in the branches above the Captain for a moment before shifting her weight to drop down to the ground beside him. "I know you've been working on research, but I thought this was worth drawing you out of the Underground for. It's-- odd. A bit unsettling in a way I can't quite put a finger on it." She crossed her arms over her chest as she spoke, staring in the direction of the obelisk as she continued. "I'd like to get a closer look at it but I thought you might be cross if I investigated it any further without you." Not that it mattered, as she technically outranked him, but she liked to be considerate and given his various investigations into the strange he might have ideas that she didn't. "Up for an adventure, sugar?"

"I am assuming this appeared recently?" He looked over at Tourmaline for a moment before returning his attention back to the strange structure taking up most of their view. "And yet no one seems to be talking about it. Another of Destiny City's wonderful oddities?" It wasn't as if a strange obelisk appearing in Destiny City was all that out of the ordinary, not with all the other strange things that went on in the city on a rather regular basis. "Should I assume that you want to go investigate?"

"Investigation and sating curiosities would be the idea, yes." Tourmaline nodded, running her fingers through her hair as she eyed the obelisk for a moment longer before stalking towards it. "You can't see it when powered down-- it disappears and you get the creepy crawlies and the feeling you should be anywhere but where you are. Other than that, I'd like to know as much as we can about it so we can pass that information on to the rest of our brood."

"Interesting." He raised a brow as he followed after Tourmaline. The fact that something had appeared with no warning wasn't strange but the fact that no one could see it if they weren't powered up was new as far as he was aware. Usually the strange objects liked regular civilians to come to them as well. He was a bit tempted to power down to see what it looked and felt like but it was also possibly dangerous and he would rather have the enhanced abilities and the ease of calling his Pet should he need it. "I would suggest we tell our brood to keep away from the area no matter what we find. Nothing like this could be a good thing."

She caught the look that crossed his face, knew the moment he was pondering powering down just as she had. She was grateful that he didn't try it; relieved that he'd chosen to take her word on the matter instead. Whether or not he returned on a later date to do that was on him... "It would be wise to do so, yes." Not all of them were wise, however, and some would read the reports and be curious. If they were ordered to do so they would be defying orders in roaming close... "Come, let's wander closer." She reached back to take hold of Uvarovite's hand, tugging him closer to the obelisk. The area surrounding it was still; eerily so. Nothing seemed right. Business nearby had shut down early, several had notices in their windows that they would be closed until further notice. As they inched closer to the marble spire the surface rippled, shifting from white to a black obsidian. "That was unexpected."

"If we do not you know some will come anyway." There were a few who may be tempted even to disobey the order, if they hadn't already come explore, but most of them would listen to their orders. Uvarovite did have to admit that their brood were for the most part well behaved. Uvarovite had missed the stone changing, looking at their surroundings and how strange it looked. The empty shops and closed down restaurants seemed to belong more to a ghost town rather than the bustling Destiny City. He turned back at her words surprised to see black stone rather than the white that had been there before. "I wonder if that is an effect of who we are, or I suppose what, we are?" Once they were close enough to the obelisk he reached out and ran his fingers over the cold stone.

"That would be a good working theory-- difficult to test without anyone else around, though." And she wasn't entirely in the mood to deal with any members of Order that might have been lurking around. If the obelisk had abilities, god only knew what it could do to any of theirs. The longer they lingered the stranger she was starting to feel, however. It wasn't something that she had noticed while lingering around the monument before-- had she not been close enough to feel the effects? "Uvarovite... Captain, I think we should step away from the obelisk."

His fingers stung slightly from touching the stone and he pulled his hand back, looking from his fingers to the obelisk for a moment. The sting made the sluggish feeling that was slowly creeping over him all that much stronger and he shook his hand before looking back at Tourmaline. "I think you are right. Are you feeling ... sluggish I suppose is a good word for it? As if you have teleported too often in a short span of time?" It wasn't a feeling he liked or one he had felt often.

"Like I've been awake for the past twenty-four hours and I haven't had breakfast-- the way I'd imagine others feel when we drain energy from them." It was uncomfortable; a sensation she wasn't fond of in the slightest. It seemed to fade slightly as they stepped away from the obelisk, the more distance between them the better. It wasn't perfect, but it was something. "All the more reason for us to tell the team to stay away from this thing." If the fledglings wandered too close and were drained they would be easy pickings for the other side. "I wonder what else it does."

He shook his head, taking a deep breath once they were away from the obelisk and he could properly breath again. "Figuring out what else it does seems like a dangerous task, one I would prefer neither of us take part in." With how easily it had drained their energy he worried that anything else could seriously hurt either one of them. "Ferals would be the easiest thing to use but calling them here would most likely attract attention neither of them wanted to deal with. "Too bad there aren't any white moon insects here for us to use."

"We could set up patrols for observation, instead of forbidding them from coming here entirely-- see if they can catch anyone else coming near this thing in order to report back." As they backed away from the obelisk its color began to change again. Enough distance between them and it was back to a pale, white marble. "In the meantime, if we aren't going to investigate further... I should check in and see if there have been any other reports in regards to it. I would hate to think we've missed something somewhere." It would be good to know if the monument was a ploy of their side. She doubted it, with the way it had zapped their energy, but.... "I'm not going to risk my weapon on it and I don't want to stick around to see how long it takes to drain us entirely."

He slid an arm around Tourmaline's waist as he moved further away from the area, wanting to make sure that she didn't intend to keep watching it after what it had done. He was not willing to risk either of them if the obelisk decided to lash out at them. "It will be easy enough to set up patrols amongst the group. Most of them already patrol together and we can set this up on the routs. I am sure the others are just as interested in this as we are." And if so then they could figure out what it was doing without actually endangering any of themselves.

Tourmaline settled in against his side as they paused beyond the range of the obelisk. At one point in time she would have chastised him for touching her while they were in powered form. She would have insisted that he not do so; that they set a better example for those who served beneath them. She didn't need to now-- not with Uvarovite. She didn't need to push him away. She didn't need to worry that he would leave. She... Tourmaline nodded, the gesture curt and simple as she slid out of the Captain's embrace, turning round on her heel to face him with a grin. "I'll file a report and pass the word on to Aue and the others. Meet you at home?" The answer would be yes, she knew it would be and didn't wait for it, blowing Uvarovite a kiss before teleporting off into the night.
