User ImageSona had finally started to come out of her shell.

She’d lived so long in fear and worry of what others would think of her that she’d almost become a shut in, but a part of her just couldn’t continue that way. There was so much life to be living and experiencing, she just couldn’t let fear continue to hold her back. Not just that, but a calling that had settled on her heart since the explosion.

She didn’t know what ultimately pushed her to do it, but she finally offered her service to the healers. She’d been feeling this calling since that horrible day, but never could bring herself to finally move forward with it. She’d let the lies in her head tell her she had no training, her giant wings would just get in the way, they’d find out her lineage and hate her for it…

She had been shocked when the opposite happened. They’d been so eager and willing to take on anyone that had the passion- and passion did she have. Even though she spent most of her time fetching things and running errands than healing, she still appreciated being a part of something bigger than herself. Plus, she was learning on the side. That was enough for her. To learn and be useful to someone.

No one mentioned her looks. It was more of a surprise and learning curve for her to be alone without her mother’s voice as her own. Somehow all of the healers were willing to learn a form of communication with her. Thankfully not much was needed to be said from Sona during her day to day help, but questions were aplenty when she was being trained. So being able to use her powers to pose the questions had been a relief. Her mentor, Faithful Heart, was so trusting. She couldn’t have asked for anyone better. She’d always been timid about using a power that could come off as so invasive, but the other had taken it in stride.

She’d not only flourished under her new role, but in the friendships it was building. Her sister, Faithful Heart, Faelon… just to name a few. They each added so much to her life and growth. She stopped seeing the looks other gave her and instead saw their bright, welcoming faces. How had she’d managed such blessings in her life?

Speaking of her friends, as Sona was heading to the kitchen she saw Faelon. She lifted her hand in greeting, making her way over to him. As she neared, she held her hand out to him in an offer to be able to communicate with him. Her powers were based on touch, but she’d never assume someone wanted them. Even despite the bond she’d made with the male, she’d never force it on him. If he wanted her silence she’d be glad with it, understanding that sometimes silence was golden.

Arms stretched above his shoulders, he pushed them outwards for a few seconds before bringing them in front of him, then to his side, and finally behind to get his joint feeling loose again. Yesterday had been a bit of a doozy for him, so he was feeling a bit sore to be honest. No reason for him to take a day off though. Nope. He wasn't even sure what he would do if he stopped doing what he was doing; what would there even be left for him to do? In retrospect, it wasn't as if he had any particular hobbies of the sort, or really any unique interests that were favored in the tree... Maybe hang out in the pub? But that one was kind of a mixed bag depending on the servers for the day and the other patrons...

Aaaaaaah! Bad thoughts, they need to stop.

Letting his arms fall to his side, he yawned lightly before beginning to go forward as he should. Another day of being an average contributing member of faun society.

Walking forward, a bright smile ever-present on his face, Faelon was whistling as he caught sight of one of his friends: Sona. In retrospect, it was almost funny how they'd become proper friends. She'd already been an adult when they'd met after all; she'd practically watched him grow up. Normally one would expect that to develop into a sort of friendly mentor-mentee dynamic and stay there, or perhaps maintain some other sort of personal distance. But as they'd grown older, such distinctions faded with time. She was no longer some nice faun with great big wings that he idealized, nor was he just some kid who liked to hang around and bother her. They were simply Sona and Faelon, nothing more, nothing less.

Offering a wave, he quickened his pace in turn with her until he was standing beside her. "Hey Sona! What're you up to today; surely you're not running about Laisihiel looking for little ol' me~?" Adding his verbal embellishment as he usually did, he held his hand to his chest bashfully as he teased before laughing at his own joke. After wiping away a stray tear, he reached forward to take her hand so she could tell him what she actually wanted.

Sona wrinkled up her nose at him and stamped her hoof at his comment, playfully acting the grump part. She should have guessed something like that would come outta the Faun's mouth, but she'd never give him the pleasure of knowing how it tickled her. He was a loon and she'd never get tired of it. Even so, she fought the smile pulling at her lips trying to keep up the charade.

As soon as he took her hand her thoughts burst forth and became his. Images of her working with Faithful Heart, running errands for the healers, random healing tips some faun had given her, all rushed at him at once with a feeling of thrill. It was as if she could run her mouth on and on about the last couple of exciting days with just thoughts. When she realized the overload she had just shoved onto him, she quickly pulled her hand back to stop the rush. She lowered her eyes, cheeks tinting red, before she reached for his hand again. This time the touch came with an apologetic warmth that touched his cheeks, revealing her embarrassment.

She just couldn't help it. It was the first time in a long time where she felt like she finally belonged. Having a purpose, friends, it was more than she could imagine for herself. With her emotions calmed down, she shared a few more thought-pictures of her pairing up certain leaves together to make concoctions she never knew could be used for a sour stomach.

Once she had finished loading him up with her recent days, she then switched it to a picture of him starting his day with a quizzical sense washing over them. It had been awhile since they had gotten to meet up thanks to her busy schedule so it felt like she'd just burst from curiosity on what he'd been up to. She was all smiles up at him, tilting her head as she awaited his reply.

Probably shouldn't have done this so exhausted what with her powers possibly being complicated, but I just had a neeeeeed. Boop me on Discord if any of this is confusing XD;

That slight upward twist of her lips didn't escape Faelon's watchful gaze - a sure sign that his jokes had been well-received.

He closed his eyes to better process the images and experiences flowing into him. It was a precaution he'd learned to take after he, quite literally, became sick the first time with the sensation. By closing his eyes, it was almost as if he was focusing on replaying old memories (well, technically, I guess they were old memories, just not his) or dreaming. It was actually really fun to see how Sona experienced the world around her; even just feeling what it was like to walk at a different height from him was exciting.

Had he ever told her that? ... Probably not.

As he filed away those tips into his own memories for potential future use, he opened his eyes as she pulled away. "Looks like the cousins are doing well as always," He laughed and almost reached over to ruffle her hair (even though she was the older one). Almost. "Hey, no worries. I can take even more of your thoughts if you wanna chat." And once again he closed his eyes, nodding at the particular recipe. "Ah.... Mmm... So that's how that stuff's made..." He'd seen the result before, but suffice to say medicine wasn't his strongest suit.

Tho it certainly seemed he was growing unexpectedly knowledgeable of the basics thank's to Sona's 'lessons.'

"Oh me now?" That was more of a rhetorical question than anything as he glanced up and thought for a moment. "Let's see... This week I've been helping out on the Apple's farms with the spring planting. There was this new girl there too - Vendemia, I think her name was? - said she was distantly related to the Apples. Have you met her before? She's a bit shorter than you," he held up a hand to demonstrate her height, "Lighter yellow fur. Has a carrot cutie mark. Seemed like she could use some more friends... ANYWAYS, we just finished up this morning, so today I was planning on seeing if there was anything else left that needed doing or taking a bit of a break."

"What about you; are you heading back to more lessons with the healers? I can keep you company for the walk if you'd like."
