In theory, Hydor was supposed to be patrolling.

Bernard was on about how Hydor was needed to save the world. Faust was just going to kick his a** if he did not -- perhaps it had been a mistake to reveal himself to a guardian cat while on campus, considering he now had a very easy place to be located by at least one individual.

Hydor had no interest in patrolling, but he also had no interest in having his a** kicked by any cats today, so he picked the easy middle option. He was powered, which gave him all the extra boosts of being powered, but he was not actually doing anything of use. Ergo, he could pretend that he was patrolling, and perhaps not disappoint anyone, but he also was not actually trying to save anyone.

In fact, all he was doing was sitting on a small building, feet dangling off the side, as he watched people wander by.

He really did not have much interest at all in patrolling, but he did have to admit, it was ... nice, he guessed, that he was now able to get to the roof of any place so easily. No one was likely to notice him up there, either, unless they were actively looking for people on top of a building. Of course, that did leave him open to the possibility of another powered person finding him atop the building, but he was not thinking terribly hard about that possibility.

Perhaps if he ran into any of these other powered types, he could interrogate them about what they thought of this surprise, you are actually an alien business.

I hope this works as a starter, haha

Sylvite didn't really patrol. Like, she'd drain energy at night if she had to, but she tried really really hard not to have to. It was so much easier during the day, in stores and stuff. She'd only gotten stopped by Order once or twice then, but at night it seemed like they were always out. It seemed kinda weird that so man of her allies were out when the streets were totally swarming with the enemy, but... whatever floated their boats.

Anyway, she didn't have to drain energy tonight, so she was just out to have a good time. Like, not only could she jump from roof to roof, she could flip from roof to roof, and it was pretty great. She felt another aura then, and it was Order, which made her hesitate. It was far enough away that she could just power down and not bother, but... she squinted. It was a basic aura, and she was pretty sure it was a senshi, not a knight. Also, it wasn't moving. Maybe they'd be nice? Maybe she could make a good first impression for the Negaverse, or at least do her investigation thing, find out something about them, or worst case scenario, try to make less of a fool of herself fighting.

Okay. She bounced over a couple more rooftops before sticking a three point landing next once she saw the person. Nice. Okay. He didn't look too magical but that didn't mean much. She straightened with a grin and waved. "Hi," she said.

Hydor had definitely not been expecting anyone to join him, and also, he did not really understand what the sense at the edges of a sense he did not realize he had actually was. In consequence, the sudden noise of someone sticking an unnecessarily fancy landing right next to him made him nearly jump off the roof.

s**t, company.

His expression was a grim line, at best, but he was not making any moves to attack her. Instead, he stared. He blinked once or twice.

"Hello."

His greeting was not nearly as merry.

She did not look like he did. Well, she was definitely wearing a uniform, in the same sense that he was wearing a uniform, but the dominant color appeared to be black. If he was understanding it correctly, that meant that she was likely a member of the Dark Mirror Senshi or the Negaverse. He was uncertain which one, considering he had not actually run into either yet, though as the Negaverse had that whole 'military' theme, he was going to guess she was a member of the Negaverse.

The only way he could be certain was to ask.

"Are you a lieutenant?"

Well, he didn't look mad at her or super scared or like he was about to attack her or anything, so that was a start. She gave a little internal sigh of relief, 'cause that would have been a pain. It would have been even less of a pain if he'd been like, happy or something, but Sylvite wasn't stupid. She knew that was too much to ask. Still, she wasn't sure what to make of his cold greeting and his blank stare.

His question especially threw her off. She glanced down at her uniform. It was black and full of buttons, just like normal. Very Negaverse. At least, she thought it was pretty obvious.

"Umm... yep!" she said. "I'm a lieutenant, from the Negaverse! Lieutenant Sylvite, specifically. It's nice to meet you and all that." She didn't wanna risk messing everything up by getting too much in his bubble, so she settled for a couple of nods after her introduction.

She blinked at him and waited a few seconds before adding, gently, "and you?"

Ah, he had been correct. Good. At least he seemed fairly able to identify what a Negaverse agent looked like. Perhaps that would allow him to avoid them in the future.

He could not avoid "Lieutenant Sylvite" in the here and now, though. She was already here, already talking to him, already interrupting his time to view the milling of people from above in peace. He did appreciate that she did not seem to be getting overly close to him, which showed that she at least had some awareness. She was also not attempting to go for his body, which probably meant she was not about to try to snatch his soul.

If he had learned anything from his conversation with Bernard, it was how much the Negaverse liked taking souls.

He tilted his head, briefly pondering if he should be honest about his identity. In short order, he decided there was no point in hiding it, and he replied, "Sailor Hydor." There was no point in providing his sphere, though, so he left that out of the equation. If she attempted to go at him, she would likely find out what his sphere involved in short order. If she did not, then there was no reason for her to know.

For a few seconds, he remained quiet, before turning out to look down at the people below them again. She seemed awfully ... peppy for someone who was so evil. It was annoying. Also, it did not fit the image that Bernard had given him. "Why are you an agent?"

This guy was just weird. Like, Sylvite would have gotten it if he'd wanted to fight. She'd have gotten it if he had stuff to say at her, twenty questions or insults or whatever it happened to be. She's have even gotten it if, since he seemed like he wasn't feeling it, he had left, but these slow, pointed questions with seemingly obvious answers were throwing her off.

Still, maybe it was a good thing. Maybe it meant that he wasn't gonna jump to a bunch of conclusions or be all stupid the way a lot of senshi were. After a brief "Uh," with her eyebrows scrunched and her mouth slightly agape, she started on her very heartfelt spiel.

"I'm an agent of the Negaverse 'cause the Negaverse is awesome," she said. "Did you know we have a Queen? Like in a cool storybook where queens are magic, except she's real and instead of dying of childbirth or whatever she can fight like nobody's business, and help people, too." The more she talked, the more she lit up. "I don't actually see her much but then there's so many other people, too, and they're so cool and strong and mostly really nice." Beaming, she clasped her hands in front of her chest.

"They're my friends. I love them," she said. "And I got a chance to try to be a part of that, so yeah, I'm gonna take it."

She stopped for a quick breath. "And honestly that would've been enough, but then on top of that, our mission is saving the world." She stuck her hands out and wiggled her fingers for emphasis.

Then she stopped, and in a slower, more somber voice, said, "That's actually the most important thing."

"Your mission is to save the world?" repeated Hydor, with a quirked brow.

Curious. It seemed that some of the underlings were either unaware of what fully went on, or just did not care. He had to presume it was the first; even Hydor could admit that the consumption of souls was evil. This Lieutenant Sylvite did not come off to him as evil, just peppy. Far too peppy. He wondered if she had managed to disperse any on his side by just being too cheerful.

He decided that it was worth continuing to talk to her, if just to figure out what exactly made her tick. From the impressions he had gotten from others he had spoken to, admittedly mostly guardian cats, she did not seem to fit the expected mold. The passion about her faction made sense. Perhaps, even, the delusion made sense. Why, though, was she so cheerful, and so convinced they were actually saving people when they were quite literally causing their destruction?

Hydor assumed there was likely a deeper story to both sides, but he was uncertain if there could truly be a deeper story to soul-eating. He supposed he would find out.

He made a mental note of the Queen portion, before pressing further. "You say your Queen is helping people. Why does your faction make a habit of consuming starseeds, then?"

Straight to the point, this one.

Sylvite nodded, all confidence.

"Yep! We're saving the world," she said. See, this was much better. These questions she actually knew how to answer. She started rocking back and forth on her heels. "From you guys. The space pirates." She leaned in a tiny bit, still giving him his space but also squinting and looking him up and down. His outfit was not very piratey, and neither was his attitude. "And yeah, that's not a technical term, but I mean you guys did come here after wiping out the rest of space, so, y'know." Her grin had turned into more of a smirk, and she just shrugged.

His next question made her squint at him a bit more, but hey, he was asking her about it at least, so she got a chance to correct them. "I mean I wouldn't call eating starseeds a habit by any means, I've never done it at all, myself," she said. She stopped rocking, and for a moment even some of the brightness in her voice was gone. "But like, this is a war. We're soldiers, and sometimes that means that we have to fight. Sometimes stuff gets desperate and people have to die. Starseeds are just like, someone's energy force right there, you don't have to damage the body. It's quick and painless." Would it be better, she wondered, to just take this guy's starseed? It's be good practice, probably, but, well, he was probably expecting it now.

She looked down at her shoes. "And like, you guyses method seems to be tying people up in a warehouse and waiting for them to rot, which like," without thinking about it, she rubbed at her wrists, where the faded bumpy rope scars hid under her gloves, "Zero out of ten. Would not reccomend."

Wait, she thought they had wiped out the rest of the universe?

Yup, this one was deluded. Made sense. Explained her merriment, at the very least. He would think someone who was the member of a faction which ate souls would likely not be so chipper about the whole thing unless they had some other issues. Of course, she seemed to be able to reason the whole soul-eating pretty well. "People have to die, hm?" Hydor quirked a brow. "It sounds to me that starseed consumption is, perhaps, the most painful. Soul-consumption may not touch the body, but it leaves nothing remaining, not even for another life. It tears that life from the universe."

That sounded awfully philosophical for him. Hydor must have been listening too much in his required Philosophy course.

It was not necessarily that he cared much for other human life, because honestly, he did not, but the concept of consuming a soul that could otherwise be reborn again and again did not sit right with him. It was the disruption of a pattern. It was the cutting off of knowledge, and perhaps honestly decent people that could get a chance to exist at some point in the future, but now would not.

She was rubbing at her wrists, and mentioning something about a warehouse. It didn't take much for Hydor to put two and two together, and figure out that she had been captured by someone from his side, left in a warehouse. Of course, she then confirmed it. "At least you are still alive," noted Hydor, dryly.

He cleared his throat.

"Perhaps some members of the side I supposedly belong to think torture is an effective method, but research has shown that it often is not. I do not plan on joining in those behaviors. In any case, I would recommend doing more research. I am not a space pirate, for one."

With the whole at least you're not dead comment, Sylvite tensed up and flat out stared at him. She'd been through actual, literal torture, and like, sure they were enemies and stuff, she'd understand if he didn't care or something, but like, they were having a civil conversation, there was no need for him to totally undermine it like that. "Yeah," was what she said back, every muscle in her body feeling like a stretched out rubber band. "I was one of the luckiest ones." Seriously though, forget what she'd thought about him being weird but kinda nice. He was just as stupid and annoying as the rest of them.

Still, he at least seemed kinda open to logic, so it was probably her duty to the Negaverse or whatever to at least try with him, or to see what Order was thinking about them. Yeah, that was better. If this was a fancy spy mission at least it was back to being kinda fun.

She was still rubbing her wrists but it was in a more casual, fidgety way. "So like, yeah it's kill or be killed sometimes, but you're right, it's not always like that." She caught herself and folded her hands. "But I think always is what's throwing us both off. Like, you seem to think we all eat starseeds for breakfast but it's really not like that. I think it's pretty weird myself, so do a bunch of us."

Like, eating a soul? She internally shuddered. "And like, even if you would it's not an all the time thing at all. First you're probably in a fight or something else desperate and you take the starseed. It's actually against the rules to eat them for no reason, they're like emergency energy so something really crazy would've had to have happened again." She nodded as she spoke. "I'm not gonna lie and tell you it never happens, but it takes a certain kind of person and two whole emergencies."

She'd used up all her logic on that one, so she finished with a quick "And yeah, you're at least kinda a space pirate. This is a space war, remember?"

Hydor could tell his comment drew her ire, but it did not seem to particularly phase him.

If anything, the part of him that was capable of being glad was glad. Perhaps it would help put things in perspective. Perhaps she had been through hell, but she had come back. The ones that the Negaverse decided to consume most assuredly did not get that chance.

He did wonder to himself if any of the ones that his side had supposedly captured did end up being actually killed. It did not seem likely that even if they had, they would have had it done to them with the same permanence that killing-via-starseed seemed to come with, but he knew war was of more greys than black and white.

It was certainly interesting to hear that Sylvite and "others" did not seem to agree with the idea of starseed-eating, but if it was an element of their side and had specific situations it was prescribed to happen in, then they were still on the side of soul-consumption. The implication of a certain type of person was interesting, too -- there were likely people who were far deeper into it than Sylvite seemed to be. "Even if it is in particular situations, it is still an obviously evil act. I am not sure why anyone is on a side that condones that."

He knit his brows. Strange.

Stranger still was her continued insistence that he was a space pirate. He supposed he could understand the argument that he was from space or somehow an alien. From what he had gathered from Bernard, his starseed was literally of another planet.

... But why the hell was she calling him a pirate?

"I do not think it is particularly a space war. Most of the fighting seems to be happening here. You know, on Earth. Where we are. Right now." He quirked a brow. "Anyway. Why pirate?"

Was there something she knew that he did not?

Okay, so he was super determined to keep thinking of the Negaverse as "evil" despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. She hadn't really heard senshi bring up the starseed thing so adamantly before. It wasn't nearly as big of a deal as he was making it out to be, but Sylvite still wasn't quite sure how to respond. She made a mental note to ask someone about how they talked with stupid, stubborn senshi at some point.

For now, she just shrugged and said, "I mean, you can call it evil, but trust me, way more," she paused for some air quotes, "evil stuff goes on on any of the sides here than you'd think.

He seemed to be even more confused about her calling him a space pirate, which was honestly probably fair. It sadly wasn't catching on as an official term, but that wasn't because Sylvite wasn't trying. She would explain her reasoning a hundred times before and hope people started getting it before she switched to a more boring phrase. She did a quick stretch of her back and took a nice breath to prepare.

Then, she said, "Yeah, I know we're on Earth. To be fair, Earth's in space, so you could really call any war a space war." She pursed her lips for a moment at her revelation before deciding that that probably wasn't the best thing to bring up in history class. "But this is even more of a space war. The Knights are from the main planets, the senshi are from the asteroids and stars and stuff, I think."

"I'm guessing you were born here, but that's part of it. From what I can tell, all those worlds are dead now 'cause of whatever you did in the past, so now your souls have nowhere to go but here, and you're trying to mess up this place now, too. That's what the Negaverse is trying to stop." She nodded, very serious, but kind of feeling like she needed a refresher on the history of the war.

"Pirates is just... it sounds a bit better than invaders, right? It's fun. But you guys are stealing stuff and messing things up just like pirates do."

She squinted and decided that on second thought, Hydor was most likely not going to help her spread the space pirate message.

He was certain that some people on his side had probably done some things that were less than savory. Sylvite's reactions had told him as much.

Hydor was determined to believe that the starseed consumption was the worst of it, though, and so far as he could tell, those on his side--"White Moon" or "Order" or whatever they insisted on calling him--did not partake in such activities. Could they even? He did not know how he would go about retrieving a starseed, yet alone if he could.

She had a point that any war was technically in space, but that was not necessarily the actual point here--

It was definitely interesting to hear what the Negaverse had decided about what those on his side were doing. He supposed if they were convinced that they were all invaders that were there to destroy their planet, almost anything could be justified. He supposed the major problem there was that they were wrong, and they were using morally repugnant methods of advancing their goals. He listened, and nodded, before replying, "It is interesting to hear what you have been told. I have heard much the opposite. The devastation is not the fault of our own. It is the fault of those of Chaos, and what they did many years ago."

He shrugged.

"In any case, I do not have any interest in messing up and looting this planet like a pirate might. I live here. Evidently, I can no longer live elsewhere."

Perhaps he stole some things while he was a teenager, but he did not think that made him a space pirate...

Wait, so someone had told him about the history of the war already? Sylvite perked up despite the fact that Hydor wasn't listening to her at all. This was good information. He didn't even know what a lieutenant looked like, but he already knew kinda detailed stuff like that and about the eating starseeds? Like, clearly someone was putting a lot of effort into making the Negaverse look bad. Maybe that could be her next investigation project once she finished up with Umber.

"Yeah, I mean, I guess it would make sense that there's different stories floating around," she said, "But that's kinda a weird one. We're not connected to space or anything. Well, just Earth. We can't even really leave here at all, and that's now with spaceships and stuff. You guys are the ones that woulda had magic and stuff to let you get around up there back them."

She gave yet another overly dramatic shrug in response to his. This was turning into quite the I totally don't care fest.

The continued bashing of her word choice started to bring a flush to her cheeks, on the other hand. "Look." She took a deep breath. "... The first senshi I talked to about this stuff had clothes kinda like a pirate, okay? I know it's not the perfect metaphor, but it's fun."

She was full on blushing now, but she was also staring him down, waiting for whatever comeback he'd have to that. She wondered if he even cared about fun.

Or, honestly, Hydor had asked his awakening cat a metric s**t ton of questions and did not let up until he ran out of ideas. Were all the newly awakened senshi so thorough?

He supposed Sylvite could not leave here, but he could not exactly leave either. Well, there seemed to be some magic button on his cell phone that would allow him to leave -- he had not tried that yet -- but he could not really leave any more easily than she could have.

She was shrugging an awful lot, now. He wondered if she was truly so uncaring that he was challenging her views, or if she was trying to hide that he was agitating her. Was it both? Was he agitating her? Hydor supposed he could ask, but it was a strange question, so instead he responded with, "I cannot exactly just up and leave Earth either, but I will leave one thing to consider. It seems that you, agents, and knights are of the same coin. Knights often originate from space, too."

He wondered how she would react to that.

The flushing, though, gave him a hint that he was at least flustering her with his line of questioning. The part of him that had tendencies towards schadenfreude felt perhaps a little uplifted by this. He showed no real change in expression, though. "Interesting. It seems the uniforms we wear can be rather diverse."

Hydor definitely preferred his own.

"Do not think that gives you good reason to go calling us a damn space pirate faction, though."
