Bonfire Night History: Bonfire Night commemorates the survival of King James I in 1605 when Guy Fawkes and a group of plotters attempted to blow up the House of Parliament in London in retaliation for the laws passed against Catholics. When is plan was uncovered, King James ordered the English to have a bonfire on November 5th to celebrate his survival. Bonfire Night is celebrated annually on November 5.
Bonfire Night Facts: Guy Fawkes smuggled in 36 barrels of gunpowder to the rented house next to the House of Parliament. According to physicists, the 2,500kg of gun powder would've destroyed an area of 500m from the center of the explosion.
