Okay so, I decided to join the Mages Guild before doing the Siege at Kvatch (closing the first gate) because my character is pretty weak and I wanted to work on my Magicka.
So for those of you who are part of the Mages Guild, you know you need to go to every city to get a reccommendation. I have all but one, and I'm guessing it's one from Kvatch, so I can't proceed in the Mages Guild.
Do I need to complete the Siege at Kvatch quest before receiving a reccommendation and thus proceeding in the Mages Guild? Or is there some other city I've overlooked?

Did you get from Chorrol? I think you need one from there too.

Thanks to my handy dandy strategy guide, the towns you have to get recommendations from are Bruma, Bravil, Cheydinhal, Anvil, Skingrad, Leyawiin and Chorrol. I put the towns from easiest to the hardest just to let you know. And if need help getting a recommendation from any of these towns just tell me and I'll tell you what you'll have to do. 3nodding

You do not need (and can not obtain) a recommendation from Kvatch.
Some factions may clash, but the Main Quest does not.

I put the towns from easiest to the hardest just to let you know. And if need help getting a recommendation from any of these towns just tell me and I'll tell you what you'll have to do. 3nodding Leyawiin was the one I was forgetting. Forgot it was down there... XD I am now a certified member of the Mages Guild. Woot. Thanks for the help.

Over there??? gonk xd Because...that's where it is and where Bethesda decided to put it I have no problems with it the Anvil recommendation is really easy

You cannot get one from Kvatch even if you get all of the game completed. Kvatch is always going to be destroyed (including it's Mages Guild). btw I would do the whole Kvatch Seige early because as you grow levels, the enemies get tougher. If your too weak just make the difficulty of gameplay to it's lowest and you should be able to blaze through the enemies.
