Birkita thought she had it all together. She thought she knew exactly what she wanted to do. She did her homework on time, she got good grades, she was punctual to everything. Nothing slipped her mind.

But now… now it seemed like all her preparedness was only for short term things. She had no idea what college she wanted to aim for. No idea of what field she wanted to be in, to be honest. It was easy helping Lilly with hers. The girl was so obvious. But for Birkita… she didn’t know what she wanted to focus on.

And so, she went to a student office, requested a bunch of college pamphlets, and was now sitting at the desk with the papers spread all over. She would do thorough research to find out at least where she wanted to go. It was never too early to start thinking about school, after all.

Obviously, the first to go in the “no” pile was Grendel. She just wasn’t… interested in creativity. Logic and absolutes were her thing. Not art and imagination. The next to join that pile was the community college. There was something about the noname college that just… didn’t appeal to her. She wanted prestige.

So, left in front of her was Leviathan and Asterion. A hard choice. Did she want to go into the hard facts… or more magic? A sigh escaped her mouth. She… wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. Both sounded appealing and both had their faults.

It was during this moment that arms came over her shoulder and a raspy voice spoke up. ”Whatcha doin’?” her roommate asked.

It took several heartbeats to actually catch her breath again. She had not heard Lilly come into the dorm! Well, for such a talkative person, Lilly was rather quiet. But she shouldn’t have been that quiet. Birkita usually heard when the other came in.

Birkita tried shrugging her off. ”Get off of me,” she muttered, trying to discreetly hide the pamphlets. Apparently, that drew Lilly’s eyes right to them because an arm shot out and snatched up a paper. The Asterion one.

”I’m going to this school!” Lilly exclaimed in her whispery voice. Birkita rolled her eyes. Considering that she helped Lilly figure out her school of choice, the hybrid already knew which school the dryad was going.

”I know,” she retorted. But Lilly wasn’t going to be stopped there.

”You should go to this school too!”

”It’s not that simple-“

”That way we can be roommates again!” Lilly persisted.

”Who said I wanted to be your roommat-“

”Maybe we can even get a job in the same museum!”

”I don’t want to work in a-“

”Oh, I’m so excited! I was sad, thinkin’ we’d eventually not be together,” Lilly said excitedly.

Birkita bit her tongue. She hadn’t planned on being with Lilly forever. But… the girl seemed to be excited about it. Perhaps… perhaps it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to attend the same college. Why, it was a choice she had been considering, after all. It didn’t have to be for Lilly. She would be going there for a degree. Lilly just happened to be there.

Oh, what the heck. Her cheeks flushed a bit. She didn’t want to part from the annoying dryad. But she would never tell her roommate this. She would never hear the end of it! Letting out a grunt, she took the pamphlet away from Lilly, looking through it. Asterion really wasn’t a bad choice. And if she decided to change her mind… well, she still had plenty of time! But for now, she could submit Asterion as her school of choice.

Satisfied, she leaned back in the chair and swiveled to look at Lilly, who was still babbling on about how thrilled she was. Birkita hadn’t been listening. ”Let’s go get some ice cream,” she told her after a moment, causing the dryad to cut off midsentence. Biting back a smile at the widening of her eyes, Birkita pushed herself out of the chair, expecting Lilly to follow. Which she did. She didn’t particularly like sweets and she knew Lilly didn’t particularly like ice cream but the fact that Birkita had been the one to suggest… well, obviously Lilly was too happy to respond with anything but joy. What a simple minded fool. Birkita had a soft spot for simple minded fools.
