As they were seated, Cordelia checked the time. They were still a bit early thanks to her not wanting to stop any where along the way. On the one hand she just didn't want to make Zeke wait, but on the other...she just wasn't comfortable spending this much alone time with Ebony. Even now the snake decided to forgo any sort of real conversation and pretended to be busy with her phone. The dark haired woman in question though was utterly beside herself with happiness at being in Durem for the first time. Well...the first time that she could recall. Since Cordelia needed to do a follow up with the Lab about a prior condition of hers and Adrian was busy with work, the man suggested the Raevan take Ebony with her. Since the woman was still recovering, they had taken the bus of which Ebony was perfectly content with. The whole way she couldn't help pointing out things excitedly to Cordelia as they passed them. Though the Frei hadn't been all that attentive, she still managed to answer any questions the woman had, but not in any great detail or with any sort of enthusiasm. Silently musing to herself as she took in the restaurant's quaint, yet refined decor, a thought came to Ebony's mind. "Delia, what's Zeke like?"The Basilisk couldn't help making a face then. Normally she wouldn't have been bothered by anyone calling her by her nickname since it was what she preferred. Yet this was Ebony. In her entire life, her guardian had always called her by her full proper name. She'd always had a thing about that with names, always referring to herself and others by their full ones. Though in recent years the Brit had started bending that rule, calling others by what they preferred and even had frustratingly accepted that she would forever be 'Ebby' to Cordelia. But despite all that, the woman had stood her ground about her Raevan's name. Thus this sudden development was all very weird on the snake's part. "He's the kindest, most patient person you'll ever meet with a wicked sense for fashion. So please, don't stare when he gets here, okay?" Delia hadn't meant to sound so lecturing, but how else was she suppose to act? God, she really wished Zeke would hurry and arrive already.

Zeke's eyes passed over his car's stereo clock as he pulled into Reine's parking lot. Cordelia's follow up had been something he had been looking forward to since the Basilisk had left the Lab all those months ago and to have heard from Adrian finally regarding one had been a delight. The conversation had consisted of a lot of 'Of course!' from Zeke. Of course he'd be happy to hold it somewhere other than the Lab! Of course the time requested was fine! Of course someone other than Adrian could accompany Cordelia!
When he then heard it would be Ebony, well, that had been quite the shock.
Of course, he had been filled in about Cordelia's once-missing Guardian. He had been sympathetic to everything Adrian said about the purple-haired Brit, and had promised to make her feel as welcomed back into the community as he possibly could.
"She's free to ask me anything. I'm more than happy to answer," he had said before the phone call had wrapped up.
Now the chosen day and time had arrived and Zeke was hastily making his way from the car to the restaurant. He hoped he wasn't late. Traffic hadn't been awful but it could have been a lot better for an occasion such as this. Stepping inside, he panned his brown eyes over the crowd to see if he could spot either Cordelia or Ebony, but came up nothing. Luckily the hostess then appeared and Zeke got their whereabouts without much delay.
"Well here's a pair I've been waiting a long time to see again!" Cordelia was buried in her phone when Zeke caught sight of her, so a friendly greeting at a respectful volume from the vet seemed like the best course of action in the populated eatery. His smile was as warm as his words, beaming from ear to ear as he took in the Basilisk and then her long-lost Guardian.
"It's great to see you. Both of you!"

Another awkward silence fell between the two women as the Raevan went back to her phone and Ebony was left to struggle with her discomfort of the situation at hand. Apparently she already knew Zeke from before, but that did little to help calm her. What sort of relationship had they had prior to her amnesia? Friends? Acquaintances? Drinking buddies? And what exactly was he expecting upon meeting them? He worked for the Lab, so he had to have known the situation with her at the moment, right? Also, what did Cordelia mean by not staring at him?! Honestly, the anxiety was so much that the woman had begun to twirl and un-twirl a piece of her black hair without even realizing it. So engrossed were both females with themselves that neither had realized someone had joined them until his voice spoke. Although his voice was low and gentle, Ebony still managed to jump some out of the sudden closeness of it and knocked over a glass full of water. This immediately caused Cordelia to jump as well, a hiss escaping her dark lips as she avoided the water at all cost. "Ebony!""I know, I know! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Quickly the Brit was scrambling to mop up the mess she'd just created. She could feel the heat of a blush clawing up her cheeks as she felt the eyes of every person in the restaurant looking their way right then. This was so embarrassing. Ebony could only imagine what this man must be thinking of her then. The Basilisk simply sighed as she watched the woman desperately try to wipe up the spill. "Honestly..." the girl mumbled before moving her chair back some and settling back down. With an exasperated smile, the Frei addressed the vet, "Sorry Zeke."

Ebony flinched as if she had been shocked by the vet's voice and Cordelia was suddenly hissing and flinching away herself as a cup of water spilled its contents all across the table.
"Oh no!" The vet's tone of voice when saying those words were of surprise and like the Brit he scrambled to mop up the mess he had inadvertently helped to make. Reaching across the table with one long arm he grabbed a fistful of napkins from the table's dispenser and started building a dam to keep the spread from Cordelia. "No no! No need to apologize! I shouldn't have snuck up on you two! It's totally my bad!"
There was a small peal of laughter in his voice, finding some amusement in the predicament in spite of himself. Eventually the water was contained and the table littered with a veritable mountain of soggy napkins, but no one seemed worse for wear, save for maybe Ebony, who was more red than pink about the cheeks.
"Sorry, again. I didn't mean to startle either of you." Zeke started scooping up the napkins as a waitress came by to survey the scene (and potential damages). Zeke apologized to her as he handed off the wet mess to her, getting a tight, tired customer service smile and a 'It's quite alright' in response.
"Are you both okay? No need for a towel right?" Thanks to her file, Zeke knew Cordelia was as adverse to water as Anya was to cold and Ebony...well...first impressions after so long apart and so much happening, right?

With Zeke's help, the two humans managed to contain the disaster Ebony had managed to create. Though it was plain as day that the wait staff were not as pleased with their little soggy mountain as the vet was. "I'm so sorry!" she apologized to the lady as she took the mess away. It was lucky that Zeke was there to provide a good distraction from the Brit's current embarrassment though. Very blushed in the face, Ebony still managed a shy smile. "Ah, no, I believe everything is okay now?" She was looking to Cordelia then for confirmation. Aside from looking a bit peeved, the Raevan looked perfectly fine.
Seeing the distress in her guardian’s grey eyes, Cordelia couldn’t help a slight wince of guilt. "I'm fine. Really, Ebony, relax.” The snake shook her head some and sighed. She honestly didn’t know what she was going to do with the woman, what with her current doe-eyed type of personality and whatnot. “Well, I suppose I should introduce you two? I mean, Zeke, you remember Ebony from well…before.” It was quite obvious the smoke Frei was at a loss given the unique situation they were facing right then. “Uh, well I guess Granddad probably filled you in on all that, so…” Giving her neck a slight rub in discomfort, Cordelia quickly transitioned into gesturing to the colorful man. “Ebony this is Zeke, a member of the Lab staff as well as a fellow guardian.”
Ebony held out her hand for a proper handshake. “It’s a pleasure Zeke. Oh and thank you for helping me clean up the mess. I admit, I’m a bit nervous.” The woman gave a shaky sort of laugh, yet smiled brightly all the same, her earlier embarrassment slowly melting away. At the mention of the man being another guardian, the whole reason for their meeting completely disappeared from the Brit’s mind as she lit up with excitement. “A guardian? Oh how wonderful! What’s your Raevan like? Have I met them before as well? Are they here with you?” Curious, her black haired head looked about behind him in hopes of another that she somehow missed in all the recent commotion.

The confirmation from both parties made his shoulders relax, although Zeke didn't take up a seat just yet. Cordelia started the re-introductions and the vet was more preoccupied with Ebony and her outstretched hand than parking his keister.
"I do indeed, but circumstances being what they are I am more than happy to say it's nice to meet you, Ebony."
It was clear he had indeed been filled in, smile warm and welcoming as ever but without any trace of reproach or discomfort at the idea of what had happened to Ebony clouding his eyes. He shook her hand firmly and as they parted from that gesture he waved his hand at the thanks.
"No need to thank me, Ebony! But let me apologize if I made you nervous, I know I can be a lot to handle all at once."
His smile became a grin then, gesturing to himself and his colorful figure before finally taking a seat across from Ebony. He gave Cordelia a look, hoping she didn't mind he took up a spot on her side of the table, but before he could speak to the Basilisk, Ebony was lighting up and riddling him with questions.
"Oh yes, I am! And no I'm afraid she's not here with me today." He left the reason why that could be unspoken, knowing it would be obvious to Cordelia. "I can confirm you have met her in the past though! Here, let me get a picture..."
He fumbled in his pocket for his phone, fiddling with it for but a moment or two before he was sliding it across the table toward Ebony. On its screen he had selected the very best photo he had of his purple-haired Frei, and while she wasn't exactly smiling the Widow appeared quite noticeably content all the same.
"Her name is Anastacia and she just turned eight last month." He was clearly quite proud of her, his tone of voice saying as much. "And as for what she's like she's very independent and creative, with an eye for fashion and textile arts. But that makes sense when you find out she's got a black widow for a soul."
The vet chuckled, leaning forward slightly to point out the obvious markers of her soul - the multiple eyes on her brow and the crown of legs encircling her head and face.
"She's very much the strong but silent type although she has gotten a bit more vocal in recent years. More sociable too."
As he spoke that last sentence he turned his head just enough to get a glimpse of Cordelia. It was a statement for her more than her Guardian after all. He remembered their first encounter once upon a time and could still remember the reactions of her and her Guardian way back before Anya was even born.
Maybe, with any sort of luck, he could mend that mostly burnt bridge today.
Or lay the groundwork for it in the future at least.

Though she didn't mind where Zeke sat, their current topic of discussion was very much something she could have dealt without today. The snake let out a tiny breathe she'd been holding until knowing for sure the Virus's whereabouts, grateful that the vet had enough common sense as not to drag that Raevan to a place she was most definitely not welcome. Even so, she could practically hear the ever doting father-ness in the colorful man's voice, desperate for a playdate for his kid. It made the Basilisk feel both irritated as well as guilty. The look of slight disappointment in hearing Zeke's ward would not be joining them today was most evident on Ebony's face, yet it had very little time to settle as the woman's excitement intensified at the prospect of a photo. Scooting closer to get a better look of said picture, "Ah, well happy late birthday to her then. Oh wow! She's beautiful Zeke!" The Brit couldn't help a small chuckle as she took note of the other Frei's hair color. "From what I'm told, I bet I really liked you Raevan's hair." Ebony's face suddenly went red with embarrassment then, "N-n-not that I don't like it now! I think it's a very lovely shade. I just meant, well, you see, cause I use to have the same color?"Cordelia could only sigh heavily as Ebony searched her out for help. This woman of hers was absolutely useless as she was now, that much had been established quite soon sometime after the Brit had come home from the hospital. Yet the Basililsk was having a hard time believing that something like conversing with someone from her past was overwhelming her guardian this much, a woman of whom would have scoffed at such matters as trivial in years past. The Frei couldn’t help sighing again, making the sound her hallmark of sorts. It would be bad form to allow this to go on for too long she supposed… “Is there anything specific you need me to answer Zeke?” Delia asked abruptly in an attempt to divert attention to herself as well as direct the conversation into a more desirable course. “You know, for the Lab check-up stuff?”
