Hyperborea had just started her patrol, she walked the dark alleyways of Destiny city. There was a chill in the air, winter still lingering in the city. She gripped her staff tightly as she felt an a chaos aura that sent a chill down her spine.

She knew the owner of the aura all too well, General Painite. She was the only General that gave Hyperborea a moment of pause, memories of their past engagements flashed through her head. The scars on her abdomen and shoulder were reminders of how dangerous this woman was.

But still that didn't stop Hyperborea from heading off towards the violent woman, She was a knight and she wouldn't shy away from a fight. As she arrived on the scene she saw the general menacing some poor civilian unlucky enough to be caught out alone at night. "Back off Painite!" She demanded making her presence know.

Painite turned her head slowly from her prey, looking over at the knight that dared interrupt her. Perfect. Someone she hated so clearly, she would not be clouded by all this horrible doubt that had been plaguing her recently. Doubt that had no business being in her proud and determined mind. She had known who she was for so long... why, now that she was on the verge of true happiness, did she no longer recognize herself?

She snarled, calling her spear to her hand. She had been draining the male civilian with her hands, strangling the life out of him while pulling his energy at the same time. There was no fight left in him, and he slumped against the wall of the alley Painite had pulled him down. He was alive, but only for a moment.

"Hello," she said, without any specific tone in her voice. Hollow. She slammed the spear into the man's chest, pinning him to the stone. There was enough force in her attack to pierce the wall itself, keeping the man upright and bleeding, though he was dead immediately.

"Did you think I would listen? Why do you waste your time, shouting warnings. Giving me a chance. You should have attacked me. Killed me, to save him. So why didn't you?"

She was more unhinged than normal, which was clear in her dark, tired eyes. They looked red and a little swollen, though the idea that Painite, a monster through and through, had been crying was a difficult one even for her to accept. She left her spear in the man and the wall, turning toward Hyperborea and stepping slowly in her direction.

"Why won't you do what you have to do, to really help anyone?"

Hyperborea's eyes went wide in shock and horror as she saw the man pinned against the wall, his gore spattered across the brick, the light draining from his eyes, his moment slowing to a dead stop.

Inside Hyperborea was a torrent of emotions. Sadness at the awful loss of life, a memory of her own parents left pitifully in a pool of their own blood; did this man have children, parents? Someone would be left feeling emptier because of his loss surely. Anger at herself for not being faster for failing to save yet another innocent life. Rage at the monster wearing a woman's face in front of her, she wanted to end her prevent her from hurting anyone else.

But not that was what she wanted. She wanted Hyperborea to loose it, she wouldn't give her the satisfaction. She could lose it once the general was dispatched. She took a breath to steady herself. She looked at the general, her eyes were tired and red, lack of sleep perhaps, crying? A hard thing to imagine but one thing was certain this was not the same calm and composed Painite she usually faced. She thought of Tanais, someone she would have never thought could be turned, maybe she could actually get through, if nothing else, a bit of humanity to the woman.

"I wish you would listen to alot more than that." She said more to herself than to the woman. "You want to know why I don't kill." She said speaking up. "Because once I accept killing as an option it all becomes to easy, to become the very monsters I hate. Because I don't know the future, I don't know what you could become, just like you will never know what that man could have become. Some of the worst generals have turned into noble knights. Maybe someday you could be one of them. If Camelot hasn't killed you yet I have to assume there is still some shred of humanity buried deep inside you." She said as she touched her signet ring activating her aura.

"And I'll be happy to beat you up until that humanity shows its self." She said as she moved fast like lightning ducking low and swinging her shinning fist towards the general's sternum.

"What's so wrong with being a monster?" Painite growled fiercely. "At least I know what I am! You think you're right because you accept 'Order' as good, and 'Chaos' as bad! But I see it the other way. I feel it the other way! You're the ones ruining lives, torturing people with your stupid brainwashing and preaching. You take everything someone knows and destroy it, turning it on its head! What makes you better than me? At least my victims get a peaceful release from the terrible things I do to them: yours have to figure out how to keep going."

She was ranting, barely making sense and not even taking note of the words escaping her. The mention of Camelot made her heart burn, anger and confusion rising in her chest. She hated him, more than she hated anything else, and she knew he hated her. If he could have killed her, he would have: he tried before. So did that mean there was no humanity in her? Or was she still alive now because he thought, suddenly, there was? Was he just bad at his job, was she just good at surviving, or was there more to this endless dance?

Eyes flashing, she pulled the spear from the wall and the body instead of calling it to her from subspace. She liked it bloody, and banishing it, even for just a second, would have cleaned it. The blood meant something. Apparently, everything meant something. Nothing could ever be simple.

Not death. Not love. Not even just doing a job.

She charged into the fist rather than ducking away from it, stabbing her spear forward as she did so. She took the hit, hard, but it did not stop her from taking a nasty, wild slash at Hyperborea. All she wanted to do was cause pain: it was the only thing she really understood.

The spear opened up a gash on Hyperborea's arm as she winced from the pain. But that didn't stop her from swinging her the back of her fist at Painite's face, trying to drive the metal part into her cheek.

"You're afraid! Afraid that if I'm right you will have to face something worse than death the realization of how much of your life you have wasted being this 'monster'. How many lives have callously ended? How many people have you hurt? Can you face the fact that all of that cruelty has ultimately gotten you nothing." She said as she backed off summoning her staff and taking a swing at her.

"What makes me better than you? I am not afraid to face reality. I'm not scared to learn the truth of the universe and to find out where I fit in.You are a coward and no amount of dead bodies is going to change that." She said fiercely, blood flowing down her arm as she fought.

Painite stumbled sideways when she was struck in the face, dazed. She tasted blood in her mouth, but it only served to make her angrier. she convinced herself she did not feel the pain that the fight caused. Maybe she liked it, or could use it. Either way, she was determined to keep fighting.

To be the monster she had been for years, the one she liked being. Was proud of. With no room for doubt.

"Your reality means nothing! It's as pointless as mine! We're both fighting, aren't we? Yet somehow you're better than me because you think the pain you cause is in the name of something pure. You're just Chaos bathed in a white light, and following your punches with excuses."

She brought her spear up to catch the staff as it swung, blocking it and snarling as she stared at Hyperborea on the other side.

There was a lot of truth to what she was hearing, which terrified her in a new and unfamiliar way. A way she actively denied was ever possible until now. Until Cavansite, and love. Was that part of why the idea of purification caused her so much distress? Because she knew she could never be good, and never escape the ghosts of all the people she killed, all the people she forced to corrupt. How could she even consider, even distantly and in agony, pretending what she was now was not who she would always be?

And how could she ever be worthy of a second chance?

Tears in her eyes, Painite shoved forward on her spear, pushing Hyperborea back with as much strength as she could muster. She teleported, appearing just behind her to take a swing with her spear at the knight's back. She knew she used this tactic before with this opponent, but she didn't care. She didn't care how sloppy she was being, or how slow her responses were. She didn't defend the openings she left.

"Wrong! I fight for others, you fight for yourself. If the Negaverse stopping hurting others I would gladly give up fighting, can you say the same? We aren't two sides of the same coin, but I think deep down you know that. You know that Camelot, myself, all members of order who fight for others are better than you. Even if you stronger, even if you could kill all of them you will still be more pathetic and pitiable." She chastised the woman as her staff was locked with the general's spear.

She knew she shouldn't test the woman's skill with her spear she had had alot more time than Hyperborea to hone her skills. Hyperborea had to get in close and stay close negate the advantage of the spear.

When she was pushed she stumbled back from the force.

The woman teleported behind her, a move Hyperborea had experienced before and was none too keen to relive. She pivoted on her heels right as Painite swung. She caught the spear although received a slash on her forearm for the trouble.

"You should spend the rest of your life working to repay the lives you've ruined. I won't kill you, no that is easy. I'll see you repay those lives someday." She growled as she threw spear past her knowing Painite would either be dragged with it or be forced to let it go. She moved close rearing her head back to smash her forehead on the bridge of Painite's nose.

"Better than me? Is that what this is to you? A competition of who can make themselves feel like they're worth the most? You mean nothing, just like me! Your death will be empty and pointless, just like mine!" She was all but screaming, feeling her heart thundering in her throat. Her vision was blurred with tears, and the only pain she really felt was a splitting headache that pierced her the more she argued.

"And how will you repay the lives you ruined?" Painite snarled, "why should I be the only one paying anything back? What about my life, that's been ruined and stepped on and looked down on for longer than I can remember?"

She released her grip on the weapon and stepped back, trying to catch her balance. She growled like a wild animal, holding her hand out to call her spear back to her, but leaving herself open for the brutal headbutt. Blood spilled from her nose and she howled as she fell back, hands clasped over her face as her weapon clattered to the floor.

"I'm done with letting you think your preaching means anything. I should have killed you, just like I did that guy you failed to save. Killed you before you had the chance to open your stupid mouth. I guess we're more alike than you think: we both waste a lot of time talking."

She charged on the last word, not calling her spear to her but instead leaping in a full body tackle at Hyperborea and grabbing for her neck with her brutally strong hands. She wanted to choke the life out of the knight, and watch that stubborn light go out. Maybe then she would feel a little better.

Maybe just a little.

Hyperborea stumbled back shaking off the ringing in her head from the impact. "You think its a competition between you and me, no all officers are empty. You serve a false queen and your purpose is worthless. As long as you are a general you will never be happy, you will never be fullfilled. Generals just take and take from the world, be it energy, starseeds, or blood. But no matter how much you take you'll always be empty" She said looking at broken body of the man she had failed to save.

She was taken a back when Painite abandoned her spear to tackle her to the ground. Her hands wrapped around Hyperborea's throat. Her grip was like iron but Hyperborea was no weakling she grabbed Painite's wrist trying to pry them off. She knew her aspect must be burning the general.

"Your life is ruined? Then make it better. Purify, become something better than you are right now." She managed to get out as she removed a bit of the pressure on her throat.

"You can't kill me Painite, no matter what you do. I'm not afraid of you. I'll keep fighting you until you understand." She said as she locked her legs around the generals waist transferring more of her aspect's burning sensation.

"The way you talk, you'd make a great Nega!" Painite snarled, blood dripping from her face onto Hyperborea. She dug her nails into the knight's neck, refusing to let go and fighting against the other woman's pull. She'd let her wrists snap before she let go. "So heartless and absolute: you really have no idea what you sound like!"

The thought of purifying came up again and she snarled, thinking about Cavansite, about their life together and what it could be. What it was and wasn't. What it might never get to be if they lost themselves.

The burning was beginning to get unbearable, her body aching from the fight. She was crying, though she did not notice it, sobbing as she spoke. She pulled one hand free from Hyperborea's neck, dragging her nails out and taking some flesh with her in her wild, animal like attacks. She held her hand up and called her weapon to her, aiming to stab down into the knight's face if she could manage it. Her arm hesitated, though, even before the massive White Moon aura appeared on the scene.

She knew, alone and terrified by the realization, that she would not have been able to do it.

"That is ENOUGH," Camelot yelled, powering up as he approached, unseen, and using the magic of his shield to send a powerful barrier out and around himself and Hype. It slammed into Painite and sent her flying off her enemy. She hit the ground hard and lay there for a moment, then looked up at the Royal who had, once again, interrupted her battles.

"Why are you always ruining everything?!" She screamed at him, but she didn't have the strength to get to her feet. She was bloody and battered from her fight, and feeling it now. He ignored her, kneeling next to Hyperborea.

"Are you okay?" He asked softly, putting his hand on her shoulder. He saw she was bloodied and frowned, having heard only some of the conversation before stopping the fight.

Painite's comment, 'you'd make a great Nega!' she recalled the future she saw. A loyal general who slaughter any knights or senshi she could find without mercy. By all accounts Painite was right but she would never become a Nega, she would die for she allowed that to happen.

Hyperborea felt the blood falling onto her face but more surprising than that she felt tears. Had she gotten through even a little. Then the general summoned her spear but before she delivered the killing blow she hesitated if only for a second. Then something else shocking happened

She was surprised to feel Camelot's aura explode onto the scene. Then his magic shielded her, she owed him her life yet again. "Merci, thank you Camelot." She said as she struggled to her feet. Her body hurt, her neck was bruised and bloody her voice soar from the pressure, and her arms were a bloody mess.

"I'll be ok." She reassured the kind man. She turned to Painite. "Is this what you want Painite to live your life hurting others and being hurt in return. It doesn't have to be like that, you can choose to break this cycle of hurt. Purify, leave the monster you became behind you can find happiness in order, in defending others and those you love." She said her eyes softening ever so slightly with pity for the mess of a general.

"I just want to have a life!" Painite yelled, growling through her tears, "why won't you just leave me alone?!"

She gripped her head in her hands, bloody as they were. Camelot watched her passively for a moment, remembering his conversations with Cavansite and seeing the impact even talking about purification had on the General he thought already lost to Chaos. He turned his gaze to Hyperborea, thinking Painite was out of the fight. His barrier fell, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Those cuts look deep, you should probably get them stitched up," he said, noting the nasty cuts Painite's spear had left behind. "Do you want me to take you to the hospital?"

Painite watched them her heart still pounding, her blood boiling. They were ignoring her, like she was nothing, and they were the ones that had caused all of this. Hyperborea started the fight, pushed her to this point, and yet she was going to walk away like she won something important? Like parting with a command to purify justified the mess she was making of Painite's perfect, entirely constructed and fake, life. Everything was ruined, and she refused to accept it, fighting desperately not for Chaos or for any Queen, but for the chance to have something, anything, at the end of the day. The one thing she had was Cavansite. She could not, would not, ever lose her.

The White Moon could never understand.

Painite teleported, using the remains of ther strength to summon her weapon to her hand and appeared, crouching because she could not get her knees to work right, behind Hyperborea again. Camelot was in motion immediately, seeing her teleport, but she was too close. She stabbed forward and pierced Hype's back with her spear just as Camelot slammed his shield into her shoulder, her head slamming into it from the force before she was thrown in the opposite direction.

Camelot immediately moved to support the wounded knight. "Hype!"

"No." she said "It would raise to many questions, I can go back to my wonder and heal there." She aid to the Royal Knight.

Then it happened she felt a burning pain in her lower back as the unforgiving spear pierced her flesh and muscles. She gasped in pain not even noticing Painite getting thrown in the opposite direction .

Hyperborea's vision grew hazy from the pain, she would have collapsed if it wasn't for Camelot supporting her. Blood poured from her wound. "I'm sorry." She managed to get out to the older knight.

FIN

"Just hold on," Camelot said, having flash backs to other times his friends were hurt, badly, because of a cheap shot by a nega soldier. This one, in particular, hated to lose without causing damage. He scooped Hyperborea up into his arms effortlessly, glancing toward Painite. She was unconscious, it seemed, though she had not powered down. Maybe her body forgot how to, as often as she spent living just as a creature of Chaos.

Not wasting any more time, Camelot ran off with Hype, carrying the knight as he ran as quickly as he could to the hospital. He would make sure she got cared for there, before he returned to the battle site to check if Painite was still around. His friends always came first, even when his anger was burning in his throat. Half of him wanted to hurt Painite back, to get revenge for every scar she caused, but the calmer side of him was already working to temper his anger.

Mostly, anyway.
