The week of midterms had been hectic, at best. He'd been forced to reschedule one due to an overlap and found himself desperately in need of an escape from life-- something that seemed harder and harder to get now that life was more complicated. The day had taken too long to finish, the hours dragging ever so slowly, and it wasn't until he was out in the crisp evening air that he started feeling alive again. Aft drew his phone out of his pocket, scrolling through his contacts to pull up his ongoing conversation with Hartley. [ Text to Hart:] So what are we doing for dinner tonight?

Hartley loved his chosen major, he really did, the theater was his life and his everything. He hated mid-terms though. He was all for performing and showing off and being someone else but the little short monologs they had to do were always the worst. This semester was terrible and he hoped he never had to have this teacher again. The professor had picked a handfull that every student could chose from. They were all bad, all boring, and he hated it. Even if he was sure he'd gotten a good grade he would have preferred to pick his own like he was used to from high school. When his phone chirped at him he smiled, recognizing Afton's tone. [ Text to Afton"] I was going to head to the noodle place up the block. I need comfort food

For all that he was looking forward to heading home and blowing things up, or maybe getting into a bit of reckless fun behind the wheel of his car, Aft wasn't one to pass up food and it had been a while since they'd both gone to the noodle shop. He could easily go for a bowl, or two, and some of the crispy wontons filled with crab and cream cheese.... His stomach was running away from him. He'd asked what they were doing for dinner but Hart could've taken it as the royal 'we' and might not have wanted company. Better off to ask. [ Text to Hart] Meet you there?[ Text to Hart] Unless you're in a mood to be alone?

[ Text to Afton:] Of course you can come.Hartley didn't usually like eating alone when he was out. Someone always stared at him though he hadn't quite figured out why yet. He preferred having company unless he was specifically hiding from everyone at home. Afton had mentioned today was going to be a long day of tests though and he knew his friend didn't always like being out when he'd had a long day. [ Text to Afton:] Unless you want me to pick up some stuff to go and I can meet you at your place?

[ Text to Hart:] Already on my way. Besides, idk what I want. He tucked his phone back into his pocket for the time being as he made his way across campus, leaving Pokemon GO running in the background in order to catch things on his GO!Plus. Not much of interest really popped up crossing the grass anyways, and what he couldn't see really couldn't throw him off that much... Could it? The noodle shop was generally busy in the evenings, but it was still early enough that it shouldn't be too bad. They'd have enough time to look over the menu and snag a table... And if not they could get it to go from there.

Hartley laughed at the test, shaking his head as he tucked his phone away. Afton never knew what he wanted to eat when they went out. Not that he minded but it did make it a little harder to offer to bring food over unless he just surprised his friend with something. When he reached the noodle shop it was thankfully not too busy. Most people still either stuck in exams or going somewhere more fancy for dinner. He eyed the menu, though he already knew what he wanted, while he wanted for his friend to appear.

As he neared the restaurant he pulled out his phone again in order to browse through the online menu to give himself a better idea of what he might want once he arrived. He'd narrowed it down to two different noodle bowls-- one that would be good for dinner and one he could save for either a midnight snack or otherwise-- and some wontons. Hartley might actually be proud of him for narrowing things down. He grinned when he spotted his friend inside, finding just a little bit of brightness in being around the other after how frustrating the day had been up to that point. "Did we want to dine here or are we getting things to go? Game night or evening exercise?"

Hartley smiled as he saw Afton, shifting his bag on his shoulder as he turned to look at his friend. "I'm alright with either. I figured you might want to play games tonight given ... well everything." He knew Afton's tests hadn't been the easiest and that was usually how Afton liked to relax. "If you want to get things to go we can go chill for a bit? See how we feel in a few hours?" He wanted to ask Afton how the tests went but thought that might be better to ask when they weren't in public.

"I wouldn't mind sitting here if you'd like to chill for a little bit before heading back to my place, or yours." He draped an arm around Hartley's shoulder as they stepped up in line, peering at the menu in person even though he'd just been browsing through it online. "Seeing how we feel in a few hours probably wouldn't be bad either way. I've tried talking the White Knight into gaming with us one night-- seems like he'd be pretty good at it. He mentioned an arcade in town that I haven't checked out in a while. Not really the same as connecting a few systems together, but..." It also probably wasn't how the elder Knight would prefer getting 'training' sessions in with his Neptunian protege, but.... Take it or leave it.

When Afton draped an arm around him Hartley had to stop himself from leaning his head against his friends shoulder. It was one thing to do that at home. It was another when they were out and he wasn't sure if Afton would like that all that much. They weren't a thing in that way. "We can sit here, there's plenty of tables and it's not too busy in here just yet and you can tell me about your week." He smiled, turning his head so he could see Afton. "Think he'd want to come game with us kids?"

"I don't know. Maybe? I mean, it's not like he's a dinosaur compared to us. Silver hair aside, I wouldn't peg him as being any older than somewhere in his mid twenties." He took his arm back once they'd stepped up to the counter, making it easier to get into his pocket for his wallet. "So. What are you getting?" He glanced at his friend. They were next in line and if Hart's order was simple enough he could just place it while the other went to snag them a table.

"Still older and might not want to hang out with us." He grinned, giving Afton a light nudge. "Veggie bowl for me and some green tea. Do you want me to go get a table?" He could snag one while Afton ordered their meals and got their tickets. Luckily the place brought the bowls over once they were done so neither of them would have to wait around for it. The knight coming over to spend time with Afton was something to think about. It at least meant he wanted to keep an eye on Afton outside of just being a mentor which was a good thing. He just didn't know if the other man would be interested in their pizza and game nights.

"It's not like we're still in highschool." His nose wrinkled as he stepped up in line, glancing to Hartley quickly after that while giving his friend a nod. "Yeah, if you want to snag a table I'll take care of things over here." Just as he said, he ordered the veggie bowl and the tea for Hart before ordering one of the classic bowls for himself along with a secondary bowl to go and a boba tea for the table. When everything was paid for he snagged their card, following after the direction he'd seen Hart wander in.

Hartley slipped away from his friend and headed to find at table in the area they usually dropped themselves into. It was true they weren't in high school anymore but they were still young. And with that they were still new to the whole thing. Depending on how old the White Knight was he might not want to hang around with college kids anymore. It was nicer though to think that he might and that the others would want to make friends with their trainees outside of just teaching. It would be nice to have friends they could rely on and confide in outside of eachother.

He set their card up on the stand once he reached the table, easing into a seat across from his friend afterwards. "This place always has pretty great atmosphere, you know. I've never been here and thought 'wow, I'd really prefer being somewhere else'." It helped, he was certain, that he often came here with Hartley... And when he didn't he was usually getting things to go instead of finding a table off to the side on his own. "Put any thoughts into whether or not you're going to come to the races with me once the weather starts to get nicer?"
