Things…were going very well for once, and even as Gelria hopped from rooftop to rooftop, he couldn’t wipe the smile from his face. At the feeling of another senshi nearby, he hesitated however…the thought of his altercation with Chara still fresh in his mind…as well as the awful realization of just who Chara had been…but this was only another super like he was…even though they felt just…a bit…

Different?

Well, now he was curious and made off towards the aura, though when he saw the familiar red hair and freckles, his eyes lit up. “Encke?”

He couldn’t believe his eyes and Gelria moved closer, grinning like a fool. He hadn’t seen his friend in ages and even though they had said they would keep in touch…they didn’t…but perhaps now that he was turning over a new leaf…

Perhaps now they really could be friends outside of patrols.

“How have you been, man? And…”

His eyes took in the glowing fingertips and the area around his eyes, as well as the strange mark on his forehead and his brow furrowed in confusion. “And I don’t want to alarm you, but you’re glowing, dude…is…why is that?”

It wasn’t anything that he had encountered and honestly…it was kind of freaky, though…at the same time, it sort of worked for Encke, kind of.

Rooftop hopping was definitely a bit of a hobby of his.

It was a rush, similar in the way parkour was, to feel his body flying through the air if even just for a moment. Admittedly, the rooftop thing was a bit more of a rush, especially once he got closer to the suburbs, but that wasn't particularly relevant. He wasn't feeling any youma auras at the moment, so just training in ways that were actually fun was a good way to spend his time.

He caught the sensation of another senshi nearby, but he initially paid it no mind, figuring it was just another super senshi like him, patrolling. It wasn't until he realized that it seemed like the sensation was getting stronger and therefore closer that he paused and waited. Maybe someone was coming to talk to--

"Gelria?"

Encke would have said more, but Gelria approached, grinning goofily and continuing to talk. And he would have replied to how he was, but then Gelria started asking after the glowing... Thing.

He glanced down at his hands.

Right.

"That's been going on for a bit now," offered Encke, with a laugh. "I turned back on the power on my comet and then I kinda just... Wound up like this?" He held out a hand for Gelria to take a closer look at it, if he wanted. It wasn't like touching the glow would hurt Gelria. (At least, he was fairly sure. He hadn't really checked specifically, but it didn't seem to be hurting anyone. Wasn't hurting him.)

"I'm guessing the glow has something to do with my comet? And helping it out?" Encke admittedly wasn't entirely clear what this all was, but he did feel better, and that was key. He felt stronger. He discovered he could go to his home comet more often. He felt more connected to what he once was. "But I like it. Not just for the glowing. I can actually go back there more often now? And I," he paused for a moment, "I feel better, I guess?"

He wished he knew exactly what was going on, but it seemed to be a good thing, so he could be patient in his discoveries.

For now.

“Well…that’s interesting, right?” Gelria moved closer, taking the hand in his own and gingerly touching the glowing fingertips. They weren’t hot…but still…it was such a strange thing to see…

“I’ve never met anyone with this uh…glow before…but it’s really cool! It makes you look good. Like an angler fish, but you know. More manly.” But…it was a nice glow. A comforting light that almost seemed to draw Gelria closer…though that might also have been from just how much he had missed his friend, more than he had realized.

“So…so how have you been? We have to figure out how to meet up more often, I think…I mean, clearly we’re both still alive, and neither of us has fallen to chaos so…that’s a good sign, but…”

He grinned brightly, pressing the palm of his hand against Encke’s. “But we should stick together. Brothers in arms, and all that.” The male was still his closest senshi friend, and there wasn’t any reason to squander that, even if he was…radioactive.

What was a little glow between friends, right?

Interesting was a good word for his current state, he supposed. It was relatively inexplicable and also he seemed to literally be glowing which was definitely... Interesting.

Perhaps odd was a better term for it, but that was alright.

At being called a manly angler fish, Encke snorted. "If it helps, I've never really thought angler fish were particularly femme or masculine." And honestly he didn't care too much either way about those things, even if he was fairly sure his physique made it seem that way. Most men kept active were trying to look strong, which was usually coded as a masculine thing...

He was getting off-topic.

Not aloud but--

"Chaos is a terrifying thing, especially with that Negaverse. I'm glad we're both on this side-- oh," he wasn't expecting Gelria to press his hand to his own, but he allowed it, pressing back a bit in turn. "I've been alright, I think? I mean, more than alright I guess, if you consider this." He wiggled his fingers in the hand that was against Gelria's.

It was interesting, the glow coming from him was intense enough that it seemed to be lighting up Gelria's hand as well. It didn't seem to be doing anything to him, which was good, though it didn't necessarily help explain what exactly it was. Ah, well. At least Gelria didn't seem to mind it.

He'd rather not scare off what few allies he had.

"And... How have you been? I imagine there's probably a reason why you haven't been around as much, eh?"

“Well, I mean just that the ones that have the glowing dangle bits are normally the girls but…” Gelria gave a sheepish grin and finally pulled his hand away, examining it to see if it had started to glow too, perhaps this was just…paint but…nothing seemed to rub off.

“Oh…you…want to know about me. Well!” He seemed a little hesitant and finally shrugged. “I’ve been going through a lot in my personal life, I think. Broke up with my rather long term boyfriend and found someone new almost at once…though…perhaps that’s a good thing. The new guy…is easier to talk to and not so…”

He shrugged, almost helplessly. “I don’t know. Not so…not. And he’s a lot more observant. I think. So far. Did you know my last guy still never noticed the scar from that youma? The big, hulking scar in my arm I just…”

Sighing, Gelria shrugged again. “I don’t know. I’m really glad to see you, and if we could hang out more often…even in civilian life, that would be great. You’re the only senshi that I really consider a friend, you know?”

It sounded kind of pathetic but…it was the truth at any rate. Encke was the senshi he would be able to pick out of the crowd every time…especially now that he was glowing like a lamp. It just…made him interesting. More interesting, at any rate.

Gelria seemed surprised Encke wanted to know how he was doing. Was he not expecting that? They were friends, right?

He pulled his hand back once Gelria pulled his hand back, and he set his hands back at his side... For just a moment before he inevitably started tapping against his side. He wasn't bored, Encke just needed something to do with his hands. He didn't enjoy just leaving them sitting there. It made him obsess with the idea of being still--

Losing and gaining a boyfriend at the same time was a hard one to respond to. Encke laughed. "Well, I'm sorry to hear that and also congratulations?" teased Encke, with a wink. "But no, seriously, I'm glad you found someone else. Your old partner really wasn't that attentive if he didn't even notice that gash on your arm. It was pretty large, wasn't it?"

He had enough time dodging his partner's questions when he had gotten himself concussed or otherwise injured. The idea that Gelria's significant other hadn't even noticed was...strange.

Unless he was used to seeing those kinds of injuries, but Encke would think he would have at least asked if it hurt--

"I'm glad to see you too. I don't really have any friends in civilian life that I know of this form from," seeing as it was impossible to tell, he supposed he could know other senshi or knights like him. It was possible he even knew agents, he supposed, but he'd try not to think too hard about that part. "It'd be nice to have some friends in civilian life that'd actually understand what's going on here, you know? No barriers."

He coughed.

"What I'm saying is, I agree. We should hang out more."

“I mean, it was a huge fang hole, took quite a while to get it cleaned up but it’s fine. I suppose having someone not notice…anything was better than having someone ask a lot of questions…that I had come up with answers to just in case. I don’t know. I don’t…regret leaving him, but sometimes I kind of miss what we had…even though now I’m not really sure just what that was, you know? I guess I just miss the routine. Having someone home when I got there most of the time.”

Gelria paused and nodded, grinning suddenly. “Good. Then we will. Pick a time and place, Encke. Maybe we can do like…a game night once a month or something. Do you have someone special in your life? You could bring them along, we could all just…pretend to be normal for a few hours. Who knows, it could be rather therapeutic.”

He laughed and after looking around, let his powered glamour fade, revealing plain old Caleb standing there, looking a little awkward. “…Guess I figure if we’re going to be friends, we should know who we are, yeah?”

Pulling out a phone, he opened up a new contact screen. “What’s your number? If you don’t want to show yourself to me, I promise I won’t be too offended…maybe just a little though.” Caleb winked to show that he was mostly joking and waited for the information, the grin having tamed itself into nothing more than a stupid looking smile by this time.

Encke offered a grim smile. "Yeah, having a routine broken can be disturbing on its own. It was comfortable. You got used to it, even if you didn't like it. But it sounds like you're getting yourself into a better place."

And it did. It sounded like this new person he was into was much better for him ... or at least, probably wasn't unlikely to notice when there was a big fang mark in in Gelria's arm. He had to admit, it would have been nice in some ways to get no questions asked -- it might be easier to explain things if he didn't have to actually bother doing so -- but having questions asked let him know that his significant other cared.

Even if he kept lying.

When Gelria commented about pretending to be normal, Encke snorted. "My partner actually is normal. Doesn't know about any of," he gestured vaguely to himself, and then vaguely to Gelria, "this. It's a little weird at times, but I'd rather they not be involved, you know? This s**t is risky business. I don't want him to try and involve himself and get himself starseeded..."

Encke watched Gelria become some other civilian, and figure that it was only right if Encke became ... Ignacio. It was odd standing in front of a fellow senshi as a civilian, though. Would he be recognized? Probably depended on how many movies Gelria watched--

"Probably. Ignacio Araya. That's my name." With a smile, Ignacio plucked up the phone if he was allowed, and typed in his number manually. He also added his name in himself, just in case the other didn't exactly know how to spell his name. "You?

"And, ah," he smiled. "I like the idea of that. A game night, that is. I probably couldn't invite my partner or anything, just for the sanity of keeping my lives ... separate, but. It'd be nice to do something with someone who gets it. No weird questions. Just chilling."

He passed Gelria's phone and his own phone to Gelria-not-powered.

“I’m Caleb. Caleb Dilts. It’s nice to meet you, Ignacio.”

He took the offered phone and entered his own number, grinning.

He had no idea who the male was other than his friend, and held out the phone once his number was inserted. “You could tell your partner that I’m just…a friend or something. We wouldn’t have to talk about…you know. Powered things, it could be fun. Like a double date night or something, but if you’re not comfortable, just bring you. You’re more than enough.”

Laughing softly, Caleb ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “I don’t know if me and this guy are really…’dating’ yet…I uh…we fought. I didn’t mean to. I was stressed about something and wanted to just…I don’t know. Go be violent? And I got into a fight with this senshi and…well. It turned out it was him. The guy…my friend? I don’t know. We worked through it but…it doesn’t really cement our relationship. But…maybe one day. I like him, I know that much at least. And the fact that he’s a senshi really helps me solidify the fact that I want to be with him…but…”

Caleb shrugged and gave another short laugh. “I’m glad you have someone who’s not involved…but you know, still cares. That’s important. It’s what I had, only the…you have the caring bit. But…I told myself I wouldn’t be with someone who didn’t know…so I’m glad that I found someone who does…even if he’s still a little resentful. My attacks aren’t that great. Cinnamon hurts, you know.”

He was rambling, he knew it, but he wasn’t able to stop. He wanted to just talk about everything…and Encke—Ignacio had been there for his first big fight. They had kept each other alive. Even if they didn’t see each other that often…

He knew for sure this was someone who would always have his back.

"I'd rather not bring my partner. It's nothing personal or anything, I just," Ignacio sighed, glancing to the side. "I don't want a chance of the powered life somehow leaking into his life. I can't. I want him as far away from this s**t as possible." He paused, before his eyes widened in panic, "And by this s**t I don't mean you, obviously! Just ... the senshi thing."

It would be lonely, but Ignacio honestly somewhat favored the idea of his partner just ... living somewhere else. He wasn't sure if anywhere else was really safer than Destiny City, but Destiny City seemed the unsafest place of all.

He cleared his throat. This wasn't time for being emo. Gelria -- Caleb was talking about his boyfriend-not-boyfriend.

"Sometimes punching things can help you feel better," remarked Ignacio, with a laugh. "But punching the guy you're interested in, not so much. It's nice that you guys were able to work through it, though. Sounds like it's the kind of thing that'll make you guys stronger in the end. I hope it works out?"

And he did. Caleb definitely deserved better than what he had before. What he had before sounded like a bit of a mess.

"And hey, maybe it's a bonus he knows. You don't need to keep anything quiet between you guys, right?"

It was something Ignacio was envious of, to some extent, but his urge to keep his partner away from everything was stronger.

It was too bad he couldn't introduce him to Caleb, though. He was a good guy, legitimately, and it was nice to be able to talk to him again.

“I get that. I was the same with my last…well. I mean it wasn’t…difficult to hide things…but I wanted them hidden.” Caleb gave a little shrug and a rather rueful grin. Maybe one day though, if things changed a little…or the more that Ignacio got to know him…maybe they could all be friends.

It would be cool to go on normal double dates…it would be something new.
Soemthing different.

He laughed softly and shrugged. “Punching things does help. Especially when they’re monsters that turn to dust when you hit them hard enough…that’s one of my favorite things, I’ll admit. I’ve had a pretty massive hatred for them ever since that bone snake, you know?”

It had been a really…really rough introduction to everything…but…it had been good in the fact that he had made a friend and…now he was really cementing that relationship…even if it was several months later.

It was still being done. And better late than never.

“I’ll talk to Benji and maybe we could all do a night to patrol together…there’s safety in numbers, right? So it couldn’t really hurt…with two supers and an eternal…we have a heck of a lot better chance of making it through the night alive.”
He grinned slightly and shrugged. “But, on that note, I suppose I should be getting back home. I’m kind of hungry and I have a frozen pizza that is calling to me.” It wasn’t gourmet, but it sounded fantastic.

At least Caleb seemed to be understanding why Ignacio didn't want his worlds to cross. It was best, for him, to keep everything separate. Everything sectioned off into its own area, without any leakage from one area to the other.

It seemed a little unfair to do that to Richard, all things considered, but --

Ignacio shut his babbling brain up and let out a chuckle when Caleb remarked about how they turned into dust. "I have to admit, it is nice that they seem to disintegrate. I wish we were actually making a dent in them, though." It was hard to convince himself they were, sometimes. The monsters seemed endless. After so many years of fighting against them, they had to be stemming the flow of them somewhat, right? Where were they all coming from? Just how many had the Negaverse corrupted--

"Benji's," so that was the mysterious boyfriend-not-boyfriend's name, "an Eternal, eh? Higher level than me even," Ignacio laughed. He was fairly sure an Eternal was still more powerful than he was. He wasn't entirely sure what he was, though. "But we'll catch up, I think. Patrolling with an Eternal might help, who knows. So will eating though. Don't go hungry. I'll let you go," Ignacio winked, backing away from Caleb just a tad.

He admittedly was likely just going to go back to patrolling, but that was no big deal.

“Yeah, Benji.” Caleb felt himself blushing slightly and cleared his throat before shrugging and letting out a laugh. “Sound fantastic, I’ll see you later, and I’ll text you, Ignacio! It was great to meet you in…in…uh…in person?”

He wasn’t quite sure on the terminology and shrugged once again before reaching up and rubbing the back of his head. “But, yeah! I’ll see you later!”

With a wave, the brunette gave one last grin and powered up again before making his way towards home, face still burning slightly from the very thought of Benji. What a stupid…thing. Emotions.

…But. At least he was happy.
